New World with Four Husbands
Chapter 435: Heart racing
CHAPTER 435: HEART RACING
Once Coco walked inside the house, she was immediately greeted by the second husband walking down the stairs, holding a jar filled with bright colored treats inside.
"Coco! Welcome back—" Heiren greeted and brightened up, but he stopped when he spotted Kairo behind her.
His eyes went wide in horror and he rushed down the stairs which caused him to trip on the last step, making Coco’s heart drop to her stomach as she ran up to him to catch him in time.
Fortunately, she did catch him.
She wrapped her arms around Heiren out of fear, her heart beating anxiously inside her chest.
Heiren was pressed against her so he could hear how fast Coco’s heart was beating, but he ignored it because there’s more important matter at hand.
"Coco! Why did you get back in time with Rogue?" Heiren asked, pushing himself off from Coco.
Coco blinked owlishly, snapping out of her frenzied daze and stared at Heire before she whipped her head to turn to Kairo who stopped behind her, then she looked back to Heiren, a confused expression on her face.
"I picked Alhai up from work and decided to walk home with him.. Kairo bumped into us so the three of us went home together instead." Coco explained.
"Alhai’s with you?" Heiren inquired, his eyebrows furrowing as he looked past Coco.
As if on cue, the silver haired mediator walked inside the house with him holding a paper bag and closed the door behind him.
Alhai stopped in his tracks when he noticed that the three of them were standing in front of the door.
"What are you three doing standing around here?" Alhai raised an eyebrow before he frowned, "All of you are in the way so move. I need to bring this to Zaque— speaking of which, he’s already at home, right?"
Heiren blinked and slowly nodded his head, reluctantly answering Alhai’s question. "Yeah.. He’s in his room.."
"Okay, thank you." The mediator hummed and walked past the three of them, his footsteps light and quick as he rushed upstairs to go to Zaque’s room.
"That’s.." Heiren started and turned away from the stairs. "Weird of him.."
Alhai is not the type to buy something for anyone in the house— if he does buy something, it would usually be for Quizen because the two of them are closer than the rest of the husbands.
"I don’t think he wants me to say it, but I’m sure Zaque would like what Alhai bought for him." Coco assured Heiren, smiling softly.
Kairo cleared his throat right after Coco spoke and caught the married couple’s attention, making them turn their heads at him and see him smiling awkwardly towards the two of them.
"I take it that the young master has not arrived back yet?" Kairo said, shifting his weight on one foot to another.
"He already got back, but he said he wanted to buy something so he left again.. He’ll be back before dinner." Heiren answered, narrowing his eyes towards the black haired mediator.
Kairo nodded his head in understanding. "Well then, I’ll be in my room.. If you need me, please call for me."
He excused himself as he rushed past Heiren and Coco, his eyes lowered to the floor and avoiding the second husband’s gaze due to unknown reason.
Either way, Heiren didn’t pay him any mind and just smiled at Coco, his eyes snapping on Lala who was perched on top of Coco’s head like she owns Coco’s hair.
"Zaque made a couple batches of bite-sized macaroons and I saved a batch for you." The mediator stated softly, raising the jar in his arms to show to the garden fairy who perked up at the sound of macarons hitting the glass gently.
"I don’t know how to bake complicated recipes like Zaque, but I made some cookies.. I have them by the dining table." Heiren continued, smiling.
"I appreciate this kind gesture of yours, Heiren." Coco expressed her gratitude with a smile of her own.
Heiren simply shook his head, his smile widening when he felt Lala land on his head, and nudged the back of his hand on Coco’s cheeks which caught Coco off guard.
"I simply want the best for you.. And your companions." The second husband muttered, his eyes glued on Coco’s lips.
Coco felt her face heat up as she caught Heiren’s gaze, her heart beat quickening at the sight of him looking like he’s longing to press his pair of lips on hers.
"Anyway." Heiren spoke up and shifted his gaze to meet Coco’s. "I’m about to cook dinner, but if you’re hungry, there’s some sweets on the table, and I can make something for you to drink if you don’t want to eat yet."
Coco’s mind was in shambles, but she managed to croak out a response for Heiren’s offer.
"It’s fine.. I can eat.. Cookies." Coco muttered, averting her gaze from Heiren’s and fidgeting on the sleeve of her shirt to get her mind off things.
Heiren pulled his hand away from Coco’s face and nodded his head. "I understand.. Well, if you need me for something, I’ll be in the kitchen so just call me, okay? I’ll make sure to cater to what you need."
"I wouldn’t want to bother.." Coco mumbled and just stepped away from Heiren, her heart feeling like it was about to burst out.
"You’re never a bother, Coco." Heiren stated with a shake of his head.
He soon left the hallway and left Coco alone with her thoughts, the sound of Lala’s giggles and Heiren’s humming vanishing behind the kitchen’s door.
Coco let out a deep sigh and pressed her forehead on the wall, her hands shooting up to cover her face.
She leaned her entire weight against the wall using her forehead and stayed in that position for who knows how long— all she knows is that her heart is reacting like how it reacted when Alhai kissed her a couple of days ago.
