CHAPTER 492: UNEXPECTED SUMMON AND SHOCKING NEWS [2]

Coco’s frown was deep as she struggled to make sense of her current situation.

Her hands clenched into tight fists on her lap, her mind racing with disbelief and anger because she couldn’t understand why the Baroness, the very woman who had disowned Coco Hughes and caused her so much pain, now wanted to pass down the title to her.

Her thoughts spun wildly as she tried to piece together the puzzle, but she can’t think of anything because she has no idea what the Baroness was like.

Mr. Covez noticed the anger in Coco’s eyes, recognizing the unspoken emotions swirling within her.

He reached into his desk drawer, carefully extracting a letter sealed with the Baroness’ sigil and held it up to let Coco see. "And.. She sent me this."

Coco snapped her attention to the letter in his hand before he placed it on the desk, gently pushing it towards Coco, signaling for her to open it and read its contents.

Coco reached for the letter, her hand trembling slightly as she struggled to maintain composure.

Before opening it, she paused and turned to Mr. Covez, her voice sounding a little hesitant. "Have you.. Read the contents of this letter, sir?"

He nodded gently, his gaze filled with an understanding yet strained expression. "I have. I read the letter without knowing the contents of it at first so when I finally read it, I immediately walked out to find you."

Coco kept quiet and proceeded to open the letter, her eyes skimming through the content.

Coco bit her lip tightly, her frustration and anger building with each word she read, the words on the page burned into her mind, each sentence causing her brow to furrow deeper in response.

The letter, written by the Baroness, was filled with words of praise and false affection, but Coco’s sharp mind saw through the facade, her heart hardening with each word.

My dearest Coco is my one and only child.. A successor to my title and wealth. I am asking you to remove my child from the Hunter Guild’s registry.. For my daughter is the only child I have loved and losing her made me realize how much she means to me.

She could sense the manipulation and deceit behind the Baroness’ words, and it fueled her anger towards the woman who had disowned her.

Coco tossed the letter back onto the desk, her eyes locked with the guild master’s, her anger evident in her face.

"That woman is not my mother." She started coldly, her voice steady. "She never was and she never will. No matter how much she tries to bring me back. I won’t come back."

The words hung in the air, her declaration loud and clear.

She refused to acknowledge the Baroness as her mother because no will never replace the only woman who had shown her motherly love.

With her anger coursing through her veins, Coco’s heart ached as the memories of her real mother flooded her mind.

She had always longed for the warm embrace and tender care her true mother had provided, remembering the love and support she had experienced before her transmigration to this world, but she already accepted her fate.

Which is why in contrast to the Baroness’ manipulative and self-centered nature, she couldn’t help, but recall the selflessness and kindness of her own mother.

The difference only made her blood boil.

She fought back the tears that welled in her eyes, her emotions raw and aching for the woman who had truly loved her without ulterior motives, unlike a certain mother.

"I understand." The guild master replied. "I will reject her offer then."

".. Offer?" Coco blinked, holding her tears back.

"She had intended to send me a hefty sum in an attempt to persuade me into letting her have you sent back to Amberwich, but that course of action goes against the moral conduct we adhere here." Mr. Covez huffed out, seemingly proud of his guild’s righteousness.

Coco smiled slightly, gratitude shining in her eyes as she nodded at him. "Thank you.. Your decision means a lot to me."

"I’m just doing what I’m supposed to do." He hummed, his voice firm. "But as a precaution, I will also hire some troublemakers to keep an eye on the Baroness’ men. We can’t rule out the possibility that she might resort to less than ethical means to get what she wants."

"Troublemakers.." She echoed, curiosity in her tone. "Are you referring to the mercenary guild?"

Mr. Covez rolled his eyes, a look of annoyance crossed his face as he spoke. "Mercenaries? Ha! They’re all barbarians, if you ask me! Don’t even get me started on the time they slept with half of my beloved hunters and got them all pregnant— tsk, just thinking about it makes my blood boil."

He shook his head, clearly unhappy with the memories associated with the mercenary guild.

Coco’s lips parted in shock, her eyes widening as she processed the news he had just revealed.

"Pre.. Pregnant?!" She squeaked out, her voice filled with disbelief and a hint of horror, her mind struggling to process the thought of the mercenary guild’s actions which left her completely floored.

Mr. Covez nodded fervently, his expression one of frustration and disgust. "Those barbarians were clearly fools who acted purely on desire! They couldn’t seem to think with anything other than their genitals! It caused us nothing but trouble and headaches!"

Coco’s mouth opened and closed wordlessly, her surprise preventing her from speaking for a moment.

However, before she could recover, Mr. Covez pressed on with his words, shifting the topic of conversation to another one.

"By the way.." He said, his tone more casual now. "We have a vacancy at the bar."

Coco’s eyebrows shot up at the news.

"Yaya, the previous receptionist, is currently on leave and the new hire.. He doesn’t seem to know how things work yet." Mr. Covez stated sighed.

"Would you happen to know anyone who could fill the bar staff or receptionist position?"
