CHAPTER 451: CLEANER

With the guarantee from Director Qi, the guards let them go. The young man, who had experienced the nightmare mission, walked forward to check. The woman was frightened but fine. After picking her up, the group left with Director Qi.

They entered the stairwell and went up. The railing used an old wooden bannister. The iron rails had green paint. They looked old. Soon, they reached an office. Jiang Cheng noticed that the office was not far from the hospital’s pulmonology department. The man left after telling them to stay in his office. He had things to attend to. Before he left, he glanced at the woman who was screaming earlier. He was clearly dissatisfied with her actions. The man probably departed to deal with things related to them. After the door closed, the room became quiet. Even the corridor was silent.

The woman’s earlier performance had brought them danger. Therefore, people ignored her. They focused on the young man. After all, his words had become reality.

“The mission has started.” The young man sighed, “It’s unrealistic to survive on your own in this world. We have to work together. While we have time, we should do self-introductions. What is everyone’s name, occupation and skills? Try to be as detailed as you can.” The young man added, “The more we know about each other, the greater the collaborative effect.

“I’ll start. My name is Kui Yi. I’m a cameraman. Other than photography, I know some wilderness survival skills.”

Kui Yi turned to the girl closest to him. The girl was very young. She had on light makeup. She looked more like a university student than a working lady. Before the woman spoke, Jiang Cheng’s wolvish eyes had already dissected her fully.

As he expected, the girl’s name was Yu Yu. She was a university student. She was an accounting intern at the company.

The middle-aged man’s name was Wang Changguo. She was the department manager of an elderly supplement company. He was responsible for sales with big clients.

The deliveryman was Cao Yang. He scratched his head. He thought for a long time but couldn’t figure out his skills. He had good stamina, supposedly. “By the way.” Cao Yang looked at them and raised the bags he was holding. “Do… you want some milk teas?” Then, everyone held a cup in their hands. The teas were warm and tasty. They had a better impression of Cao Yang.

Jiang Cheng didn’t like the boba pearls, so he pulled a trash can over and spat them into it.

After Weiwei and Du Feng made their introductions, it was Jiang Cheng’s turn. Since his friend was present, he was rather reserved. He was a psychiatrist who worked at a consultancy office.

Lin Wan ‘Er’s introduction was even shorter. She nodded. “I’m his boss.” Everyone’s gaze wandered between Jiang Cheng and Lin Wan ‘Er. They suspected these two shared a secret.

Finally, everyone turned to the wordless woman. It was she who almost brought them trouble. The woman looked around 45. She wore a black sweater, casual pants and black flats. She dressed older than she was. She was so nervous that she stammered. Eventually, she said that her name was Lee Kaifeng and she worked at a logistics company. It was an accident for her to be there. She didn’t work there. She was there to look for her daughter, who worked at the building.

After a while, Kui Yi asked a key question, “What did you see in the elevator?” Everyone remembered that after Lee Kaifeng fell, she revealed a scared expression at something behind the group. Then, she crawled as she escaped down the corridor.

When she heard that question, Lee Kaifeng started to tremble again. “A person! No! A door. It was a black door!”

When he heard that, Kui Yi’s eyes froze. His guess was verified. Jiang Cheng continued to act curious and afraid.

“What are you talking about?” Wang Changguo was annoyed. The initial fear had faded. He didn’t like to be tricked. If not for the woman, they wouldn’t be so passive. “Is it a door or a person?” He pressed, “Be clear.”

“It was the cleaner.” Lee Kaifeng’s face paled. Even the memory shocked her. “She… turned into a door. It was behind you!”

“What?!” Many people were stunned. Then, they reacted as a strange atmosphere spread. Yes. There was a cleaner in the elevator. Where… was she?

The strangest part was that before anyone mentioned her, no one even thought of her, as if she had been wiped from their memories. However, when Lee Kaifeng brought her up, the cleaner returned to their minds. It was as if Lee Kaifeng had broken a seal in their memory.

“Is the cleaner behind this?” Cao Yang gasped in disbelief. He was an atheist, but his world was crumbling.

Kui Yi cut in. “No matter what the cleaner did, we’re already here. Therefore, we should focus on how to survive.”

“That’s easier said than done. Do you have a plan?” Wang Changguo growled at him. He didn’t like to be led around, especially by someone younger than him. More importantly… He believed this young man was the culprit, even though he still hadn’t figured out why. He was on the same side as the… people from this world. They were acting!

Unlike the rest, Jiang Cheng was more interested in the cleaner. He glanced at Lee Kaifeng. He wanted to ask her directly how the cleaner turned from a person to a door. Was it a slow or quick process?

After all, he had a door on him. Plus, the thing inside his door was getting more active.

Rapid footsteps came from outside the door. Then, the door flew open. A figure rushed in. Different from when he left, Director Qi looked a lot calmer.
