CHAPTER 453: CLEAN UP

“There were reports that when they were changing medicine at night, the door behind them would close and never open again.” The man looked up with a pale face. “But that door… didn’t even have a lock.”

Everyone’s face became interesting. The door couldn’t be opened even though it had no lock. That meant there was a force blocking it, but it was not due to human intervention. Hearing the man’s words, Yu Yu hugged her arms. She was quite brave among the girls and usually enjoyed reading horror stories. However, things were different. This was not a story. It was real life. She was pulled into an actual horror incident.

Based on what Kui Yi said, they could die there. Without realising it, a hand landed on her shoulder. It spooked her. When she turned around, she saw a reliable face.

“Don’t worry.” Jiang Cheng said gentlemanly, “If you’re scared, you can hug me. I don’t mind.”

When Du Feng saw this, his thoughts about Jiang Cheng changed. The beauty he was with was still there. Would she not mind? What kind of people were these?

Du Feng calmed himself. He was dealing with something more important. He should focus on the things that might kill him. Plus… Since they were there, could this be related to CEO Nan’s disappearance?

After all, they took the elevator, and the elevator stopped on the 17th floor, where CEO Nan disappeared. If they were not related, that would be unlikely. Just as Du Feng was about to say something, someone poked him on his waist. He turned and saw Weiwei standing beside him. Weiwei shot him a glance and naturally glanced away. Du Feng swallowed his words.

“So, what do you hope for us to do?” When they realised the man had nothing else to say, Kui Yi asked directly. The timeline was different from their world. The sun outside the world had fallen. It was around 5 pm. After the man left the hospital, they needed time to discuss. More importantly, they needed to figure out how to survive the night.

“Just like I said, I hope you can help me clean the unclean things at the hospital,” Director Qi said.

Clean… When he heard that, Jiang Cheng’s gaze changed. The way he looked at Director Qi altered. Normally speaking, shouldn’t the request be to investigate what was going on first? Even if that were not the case, it would be more proper for him to ask them to resolve the issue. But to clean… the things?! That sounded like a murder request.

However, Kui Yi didn’t appear to pick up on this. He nodded. “This is our responsibility. However, I wish you could understand that. Something like this… requires time.”

“Be as quick as you can,” The man urged.

Kui Yi looked around and asked the man, “It’s getting dark. Where will we rest tonight?” The office was clearly not suitable. Actually, Kui Yi hoped that they could leave the hospital when the sun was still up.

“I’ve arranged for your rooms.” The man stated, “I’ve ordered people to prepare them for you.”

So far, it seemed that they had been hired by this man to deal with the unclean things at the hospital. And no one else at the hospital knew about this. The man created fake identities for them, telling others that they were patients transferred from other hospitals and their families.

At that moment, the phone in the office rang. The man answered it. After talking for a while, he slammed the phone angrily. Then, he told them that he had something to deal with. He told the nurse on duty to bring them to the room. He reminded them to be mindful that they were supposed to be patients. Then, he left.

After the man’s footsteps disappeared, Kui Yi looked back from the door. He sighed. “There are few people we can trust in this world. We need to gauge everything ourselves, including these people’s goals and the authenticity of their claims.”

Cao Yang’s eyes widened. “Do you mean the NPC in this world know how to lie?” He was an avid gamer. Most NPCs in games were dumb. Plus…. Director Qi looked like an NPC from the main quest, the kind who’d assign the players missions. How could he not be trustworthy?

“They might not trick you, but they might misdirect you,” Kui Yi explained.

“Brother, have you noticed something?” Jiang Cheng looked at him with admiration, seeing him as the hope for their survival.

Kui Yi glanced at the door and whispered, “I feel like something is wrong with… this Director Qi. He’s just a director at this hospital. Does he need to go this far?” Kui Yi questioned, “He probably spent a lot to hire people like us. If I were him, I would have quit and left. I wouldn’t stay to deal with this.”

Kui Yi’s meaning was clear. He didn’t think Director Qi was required to take the risk to handle this. Plus… no matter what, this should involve more people than just one Director Qi.

However, they had just arrived in this world. There were too few clues to formulate any useful discussion. After the nurse came to knock on the door, they followed her to check out the rooms. To their surprise, they were not assigned to stay inside a singular sickroom.

Weiwei explained to the nurse that they wished to stay together, but the nurse shut her down. She said there were limited rooms, and this was already the best Director Qi could do for them. Or else, some of them had to leave. Seeing the night outside the window, they stopped protesting.

Jiang Cheng’s group asked to share one room since they already knew each other.

There was a small interlude when the nurse told them that they needed to use the elevator. Three out of nine of them said that they would be dizzy if they took the elevator.

Jiang Cheng’s excuse was more rational. He said that he had claustrophobia because a dog bit him when he was a child. The nurse couldn’t see the correlation. However, she knew that these people were not normal. She was also worried that having them use the elevator might lead to trouble.

Therefore, she played along and led them to the stairs.
