CHAPTER 168: CHAPTER 166 LET’S HAVE A GOOD TALK [1 MORE]
"If you’re reluctant, then why didn’t you take proper precautions?" The doctor beside her, seeing her suddenly in tears, reproached helplessly.
Maya Spencer listened to the doctor’s reprimand, trying to hold back her tears, but they wouldn’t stop, and she ended up crying even harder.
At this moment, she hated Liam Spencer, wishing she could stab his heart with the doctor’s scalpel. Why did he bring her such pain and torment? Why make her cry so miserably?
She bit her lower lip tightly, closed her eyes, and kept warning herself that her tears were not worth it, that man was not worth her sadness.
"Stop crying, it’s just that you two aren’t meant to be!" The doctor comforted, seeing Maya crying uncontrollably.
Listening to the doctor’s comfort, Maya took a deep breath, her vision went black, and she couldn’t remember anything. By the time she came to her senses, she was already in the hospital ward.
At this time, her eyes were lifeless, her face pale, her tears had dried up, and her right hand gently rested on her belly, still flat as if that little life had never existed.
She swallowed hard, tears falling again, the feeling of sadness was so overwhelming it was like dying, ultimately she was still fragile.
In the ward, the doctor said, "There will be more children in the future, the surgery was successful, no impact, no need for a cleansing surgery, just rest well."
Lying on the hospital bed, Maya listened to the doctor’s comfort without saying a word. The surgery was indeed successful, apart from the heartache, she felt no physical discomfort, the professional terms described by the doctor were beyond her understanding, she only knew that the unwanted child was finally gone.
She turned her head, looking out the window, tears streaming down.
She thought that losing this child wouldn’t make her sad or heartbroken.
But when she truly lost it, her heart seemed to die along with it, lying on the hospital bed, filled with hatred for Liam, she didn’t know what there was to hope for in future life!
She always thought she was ruthless, but in the end, she wasn’t ruthless enough, just losing Liam’s child made her feel like she was dying, the sadness was suffocating, she resented her own weakness yet couldn’t control her heartache.
In the large ward, Maya lay alone on the bed, without a drop of water, lying there for a whole day, neither eating nor drinking, so the doctor gave her an amino acid drip to supplement nutrition.
As the sky gradually darkened, Maya’s mood became increasingly depressed, looking at the gray sky, she sat on the windowsill, even having an impulse to jump down.
But to die just like this, she was unwilling. She wanted to return all the humiliation she suffered to Liam, she wanted him to feel this heart-wrenching pain, making him wish he was dead.
Until the dead of night, when everyone was asleep, she was still sitting on the windowsill, staring blankly at the moon, as if she had lost her soul.
The quieter it was, the more distressed Maya felt inside, the more her chest hurt.
It had been 12 hours since she came out of the operating room, she hadn’t closed her eyes, nor did she feel tired.
The pain in her heart had no outlet, she was seen sitting curled up on the window sill, head lowered, biting her arm hard, even when her teeth became numb, she wouldn’t let herself go, all over her arm were marks and bruises from biting.
It seemed she was punishing herself for not being able to keep the child!
Meanwhile, at Lillian Morris’s apartment, she was busy the whole day.
At this moment, she had just left the nightclub and headed straight back to the apartment, not even contacting Jane Spencer.
At the door, she carefully opened it, even tiptoeing in without changing her slippers, afraid of making any noise that might wake her up.
That guy didn’t even send him a text today, nothing to reassure him, truly like the legendary iceberg.
When she reached Maya’s door, she quietly turned on the small orange light she took from the shoe cabinet, carefully pushed open the door a crack, and surveyed the sleeping Maya under the faint light.
But when she looked over, she found the large bed empty, not even a shadow to be seen.
Lillian thought she was seeing things, immediately turned the flashlight to a brighter setting, shining it into the room. Yet the bed was still empty, no sign of Maya anywhere.
Instantly, Lillian panicked, hurriedly turned on all the lights in the house, searching every room to no avail.
When she returned to Maya’s room again, standing outside the wardrobe, she swallowed nervously and said, "Maya! Don’t fool around, come out quickly! Playing hide and seek in the middle of the night isn’t fun at all!"
However, there was no response from the wardrobe, she quickly slid open the wardrobe doors, yet still did not find her.
Subsequently, she called out to her a few more times, but still got no response.
At this point, Lillian panicked, thinking to herself, could Jane Spencer have taken her away!
Thinking of this, she immediately took out her phone and dialed Liam’s number, urgently asking him, "Liam, did you take Maya away?"
On the other end, Liam heard Lillian asking for Maya, couldn’t help but laugh.
He had been searching for Maya for three days, without closing his eyes, and now at this moment, she was asking for her, it seemed, Lillian had some explaining to do.
So, he said with a cold laugh, "Brother-in-law, it seems! We need to meet and have a good talk!"
Before making the call, Lillian knew what consequences she would have to face, so she wasn’t afraid to give the apartment address to Liam.
It’s just, what worried her wasn’t how to face Liam, but what Maya was doing now?
Didn’t she promise her that she could always hide here, why did she leave? Where did she go? Why is this girl so stubborn? Why does she treat her as an outsider? can’t she directly express her thoughts to her?
Lillian hung up the phone, looking at the empty bed, sighed helplessly, sat down weakly on the bed, her face full of tired fatigue.
She turned her head and looked at the bedside table when she saw a note tucked under the lamp, she quickly moved the lamp and retrieved the slip of paper.
As expected, it was a note left for her by Maya, it read, [Brother Morris, thank you for taking care of me these days, I’ve left! Don’t worry about me!]
Lillian looked at the girl’s note and felt a strange pang in her heart. Every time she helped her, it was always only halfway, she could never protect her entirely. This was the second time Maya told her not to worry.
Looking at her reassurance, a sense of guilt arose in Lillian for failing Maya’s only trust in her. She took a deep breath, stuffed the note into her pocket, not planning to let Liam see it.
Moments later, Liam arrived, Lillian hearing the urgent knocking, quickly opened the door for him.
As soon as the door opened, Liam grabbed her collar, thrusting her against the wall behind her, angrily asking, "Where have you hidden Maya?"
