CHAPTER 199: CHAPTER 197 YOU UNDERSTAND【CHAPTER 22】
Besides, the Third Young Master only opened one room; how dare they casually add another? They were hoping the Third Young Master would tip them!
Maya Spencer looked at the nurse’s gaze and knew she was protecting Liam. Knowing this, she felt helpless; after all, S City was Liam’s territory.
However, just after the nurse left the ward, Maya saw herself and someone else trending together on the news as she scrolled through her phone.
And it was because of an illness!
The news of her engagement hadn’t even cooled down, and now she was on the list again. Even she felt it was a publicity stunt.
So, she turned her head, squinted her eyes, observed Liam, and asked, "Is this your doing? Using me for publicity? Did you pay the advertising fee?"
"Maya, don’t be small-minded. Do I need to resort to such tactics? And with you?"
Actually, it was Old Master Spencer who leaked the news. He knew people at the hospital. Naturally, when the Third Young Master of the Spencer Family was admitted, he had to be informed.
So, the old man wasn’t going to miss out on free publicity. Now, he took the opportunity to hype things up between them, which was free advertising with excellent results.
Maya saw that Liam didn’t admit it and couldn’t be bothered to argue with him. She lay on the bed reading comments from netizens, sometimes frowning, sometimes bursting into laughter.
On the side, Liam watched someone acting silly with disdain, rolled his eyes, and scolded, "Are you dumb?"
Maya completely ignored his scolding, held her stomach, and said with restrained laughter, "This netizen says you have premature... issues, that I brought you to the hospital for an examination."
Hearing these malicious speculations, and seeing Maya’s smug little expression, he kicked her lightly and asked, "Are you sure you want to tease me?" To him, Maya reading those comments aloud was teasing.
Maya looked at his lecherous gaze, immediately shut up, and tossed her phone aside.
Seeing her obedient, Liam finally let her off. After their injections, he drove her back.
On the way, Maya dozed off in the passenger seat, sleeping very soundly.
While driving, Liam kept glancing at her from the corner of his eye.
He thought of the painkillers she took that night and felt something was wrong, suspecting she was hiding something from him.
Yet he also knew she wouldn’t tell him the truth.
When the car reached the villa, Maya was still asleep.
Liam looked at the girl beside him and didn’t wake her. He quietly got out, gently picked her up, and carried her inside.
In the living room, Sister Taylor saw them return after the injections and immediately approached to inquire about their condition.
However, Liam ignored her concern and asked, "Sister Taylor, is there anything wrong with your lady’s health?"
Sister Taylor heard Liam’s question, frowned, and thought for a moment before saying, "My lady has headaches. They act up when it rains. Did she disturb the Third Young Master’s sleep last night?"
"No!" Liam replied flatly, his instincts telling him Sister Taylor was hiding something from him.
So after putting Maya back in bed, he couldn’t help but walk to her bookshelf and open the cabinet where she kept her medicine.
He wanted to take some samples to investigate what kind of pills she was taking, but the medicine in the cabinet was suddenly gone.
Liam searched the entire cabinet, yet couldn’t find the glass bottle.
The sudden disappearance of the medicine made Liam even more suspicious, doubting Maya’s ailment was merely headaches.
Just then, Sister Taylor arrived and asked in surprise as she saw Liam rifling through the bookshelf, "Third Young Master, are you looking for something?"
"Nothing, just wanted to grab a book, but it’s not here." Liam replied vaguely, covering it up.
But Sister Taylor wasn’t naive; she immediately sensed he was looking for Maya’s medicine but didn’t expose him.
Instead, she smiled brightly and said, "Third Young Master, lunch is ready, you can eat now."
"Hmm! Don’t wake Maya; let her sleep for now." Liam glanced at the sleeping Maya as he spoke, the image of her crying and clinging to him last night vivid in his mind. He was eager to know what nightmare she had.
After lunch, Liam stayed with Maya for a while, then went to the office.
After the fuss of last night, his mood was unsettled, constantly in suspense.
In the villa, shortly after Liam left, Maya was awakened by a phone call.
Half-awake, she picked up the phone; seeing it was from her uncle, she rubbed her eyes and answered, "Uncle!"
"Maya, come to the company."
"Okay!"
Although Maya wanted to sleep, she still got up in response to her uncle’s call, skipped lunch, and headed straight to Hanson Clan Group.
Coincidentally, she also had something to discuss with her uncle.
In the office, upon seeing Maya arrived, Aron Hanson immediately invited her to sit opposite his desk.
Aron was usually composed, rarely displaying such urgency.
So, Maya propped her left arm on the table, resting her chin, and seriously asked, "Uncle, with such excitement, have you finally found me an aunt?"
Seeing the unserious Maya, Aron shook his head helplessly and said, "I called you here to discuss business. The collaboration between the Hanson Clan and the Owen Clan has officially begun. You know this project involves 200 billion."
"So, during this period, stay by Liam’s side and don’t make any trouble. I heard he moved in with you."
From her uncle’s tone, Maya could tell he thought she and Liam had reconciled and were dating.
She wanted to explain, but found herself unable to clarify.
So, she boiled down all reasons to one sentence: "We’re just faking it; we haven’t reconciled."
Listening to Maya’s explanation, Aron lifted his head, frowned, and stared straight at her.
He took a deep breath and said solemnly, "Maya, emotions aren’t child’s play. Take it seriously. This project was your insistence to sign. Uncle hopes you will take responsibility. If this project faces issues, it won’t just be this project’s loss; it could greatly impact the Hanson Clan."
Hearing Aron’s admonishment, Maya’s smile vanished. It was the first time Aron spoke to her so sternly.
She knew Aron valued the Hanson Clan Group, perhaps more than his life, yet she still felt aggrieved.
Aron, seeing the silent Maya, folded his hands and said, "Maya, do you understand what uncle means?"
Maya swallowed hard and said, "I understand!"
She understood! She understood completely! She knew her uncle prioritized business and wanted to surpass the Owen Clan Group.
But she never intended to hold her uncle back; she just couldn’t accept his sternness all of a sudden.
"As long as you understand. Keep your distance from Adrian Clark; rumors would be detrimental to us."
"Alright!" Maya nodded in agreement, yet felt very upset inside.
She wanted to say something but didn’t know where to start.
Aron, seeing the obedient girl, handed her a signed project proposal and said, "Here’s the project proposal with the Owen Clan. Take it to Liam."
