CHAPTER 391: CHAPTER 389: SEEING OBJECTS, MISSING PEOPLE [4 UPDATES]

After Aron finished coughing, he looked at Maya seriously and said, "Maya, it doesn’t really matter what you call me, you can continue as before. The most important thing is that we all stay happy as a family."

Aron’s words sounded too formal, making Maya look at him with a sarcastic smile and reply, "Sure thing, brother-in-law!"

After dinner, Maya pulled Aron to the kitchen to wash dishes, with the real intention of having a private conversation.

At the sink, she handed Aron a bowl with detergent and asked, "Uncle, when did you and Sister Jane Spencer hook up?"

Aron took the bowl from Maya and started rinsing it under the tap, replying, "Half a month ago."

"Do you like her a lot?"

"She seems pretty well-read and sensible, and I’m not getting any younger. Your grandfather keeps urging me to get married, and I find her quite suitable."

"Oh, come on! Well-read and sensible? Uncle, Sister Jane Spencer is really cunning. Don’t get tricked by her."

"I’m not exactly simple-minded myself, so there’s no need to worry about me."

"But Sister Jane Spencer is very devious, do you know that she..." Maya initially planned to mention Jane’s divorce and her collecting evidence of Lillian’s affair, but given her own complicated relationship with Lillian, she decided to abandon that idea. Instead, she helplessly said, "Just trust me on this."

Seeing Maya’s anxious look, Aron shifted the topic, "Are you now on good terms with Liam?"

"Yep! Things are pretty good now, but Uncle, let me be blunt. Cooperation is fine, but I really can’t handle being a corporate spy. Liam hasn’t involved me in his company’s matters, and we can’t compete with Liam anyway, so let’s not stir things up."

Aron paused for a moment upon hearing Maya’s warning, then chuckled, "Mutual growth and a win-win situation isn’t bad either."

Even though he said this, he felt that Maya had changed, no longer following his directives and starting to have her own plans.

Could it be that because she liked someone else, she didn’t want to infiltrate the Owen Clan and preferred to keep an option to leave?

After a brief silence, Aron suddenly asked, "Maya, do you want to investigate your father?"

"No, I don’t!" Maya answered firmly.

"But your mother’s death might be related to your biological father."

Maya was startled by Aron’s information, wondering if that irresponsible man was involved in her mother’s death. Could he have killed her mom?

After pondering for a while, she calmly said, "If that’s the case, let’s not investigate it."

"Alright!" Aron was just testing Maya’s mindset towards life.

He was quite dissatisfied with her response. She didn’t even want to investigate her mother’s cause of death, clearly wanting to leave and run away with the person she liked.

He thought to himself, women really are unreliable. When it comes to emotions, they can be so irrational.

After washing the dishes, Maya didn’t stay any longer and drove off first.

At Aron’s villa, Jane had not left yet. Looking at the welcome arrangement Maya made, she remarked with a casual smile, "Didn’t expect Maya to have a cute side."

Aron calmly replied, "She’s just a young girl, those traits are still there."

"She has changed quite a bit compared to three years ago, much more cheerful, but still sharp-tongued." The Spencers have all experienced Maya’s sharp words and cold demeanor.

"She does have a sharp tongue, don’t pay too much attention to what she says." Aron didn’t mention Maya’s depression.

"Hey! I know her better than you do, it doesn’t bother me."

Right after Jane finished speaking, she continued, "But my brother is truly smitten with her. He rarely used to smile at people, look how he’s pampered Maya, his tolerance as vast as the sea."

"Has Maya done anything to upset Liam?"

"Lots of minor things, like arguing, talking back, hitting him—those are just child’s play." Jane spoke with indifference.

"And the major stuff?" Aron’s question revealed that he detected the subtext in Jane’s words.

Jane watched Aron’s puzzled expression, furrowed her brows, and pretended to be surprised, "Don’t you know Maya has someone she likes? She has liked him for over three years, nearly driving Liam mad, but thankfully they’ve reconciled now."

"Who does she like?"

"You really don’t know?" Jane countered.

"She’s a girl, there are many things she wouldn’t tell her uncle."

"I don’t know exactly who it is either." Jane didn’t reveal Lillian’s name because Liam had warned her.

Hearing Jane’s words, Aron fell silent and contemplated.

Meanwhile, at Liam’s apartment, Maya entered angrily, kicked her shoes into the middle of the living room, and ruffled her hair in frustration, muttering to herself, "What’s happening, getting me all worked up for nothing."

After finishing her shower and changing clothes, she was still unable to calm down and come to terms with Aron and Jane being together.

On the big bed, she furrowed her brow, crossed her legs, and struggled for a long time before grabbing her phone. Looking at the time, she mumbled softly, "Liam should be awake by now!"

Maya couldn’t wait to share the earth-shattering news with Liam. If she were to hold it in for another week, she’d end up feeling sick, so she dialed Liam’s number.

On the other end, the man looked at the familiar number and his lips curved into a bright smile, gently asking, "Little rascal, can’t sleep without me around?"

Listening to his pleasant voice and sensing his smile through his words, Maya suddenly frowned and impatiently asked, "Are you sleeping?"

"Yes, I slept right after getting off the plane."

"Alone? Or with someone?" Maya didn’t know why, but after hearing his voice, she inexplicably started worrying about his behavior while he was away.

"Haha..." Liam burst into laughter at her questioning.

He teased, "Why don’t you guess?"

In her apartment, Maya was provoked by his ambiguous response, immediately sitting up on the bed, with crossed legs, and seriously asking, "Is there someone next to you? Is that why you aren’t saying you’re alone?"

"Little rascal, there’s no one." Maya’s jealousy made Liam feel especially amused.

"I don’t believe you." As soon as Maya said this, she sent him a video.

On the other side, Liam lay on the bed and couldn’t stop laughing at her check-in video, instantly accepting it, but seeing her wearing his sleepwear, his mood soared.

So, facing the phone, he blew a kiss and said, "Seeing this reminds me of you!"

Maya saw Liam lazily sprawled on the bed and changed the subject, asking,"No meetings today? Haven’t gotten up yet?"

"It’s still early!" Liam said, lifting his blanket, holding his phone as he wandered around his suite, and added, "There’s no woman on my bed, nor in my room."

Only then did Maya smile broadly, with a hint of embarrassment, replying, "Alright, alright! I believe you."
