North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 66: 065 Give Up
Jimmy had been pondering these past few days on how to enhance his spell damage. As for the objective of exploring the beach, he was ready to scout it out later, but was still clueless about what preparations were necessary.
The first dilemma was, in the event of a supernatural occurrence, how should an ordinary person resolve it. The second issue was, should anything unusual happen, how could he safely escape.
Jimmy wouldn't do anything to put himself in danger before these two issues were resolved.
When it came to items that could cause damage, the first things that came to Jimmy's mind were holy water and holy relics from the church. However, he had absolutely no connection with the church, so how could he possibly obtain them? Additionally, whether they would be effective or not was another matter altogether.
The escape plan was also concerning, as in the case of an abnormal event, there was an eighty to ninety percent chance that escaping alone would be difficult. What was needed was something that could counter the Evil Spirit.
His patrol area was now far from there, trying his best to keep the issues from that place from affecting him. Jimmy had also talked to other people in the police station, indirectly inquiring about whether there had been any supernatural events or characters like exorcism masters, but to no avail.
It seemed that the people at the police station, having been exposed to the darker side of society, might have religious beliefs, but only regarded them as such, without the fanaticism of zealots. They also rarely had time to participate in various church activities, so naturally, they didn't interact much with those people.
As for characters like exorcism masters, they had never even heard of such people. The only possible exorcist was a priest from the church, and so, after going round in circles, Jimmy was back to square one.
After struggling for several days, including calling acquaintances to inquire, Jimmy ultimately decided to give up on investigating the beach. The reason for giving up was that he simply found no way to tackle the potential supernatural phenomena. If he couldn't rule out the possibility of supernatural occurrences at the beach, he would never touch that place. He had only been reborn a few months. Was he really going to risk his life out of curiosity?
Being a coward wasn't necessarily a bad thing. In the movies, those who didn't know their own strength and still messed around with danger, were already two meters under. If the disappearances were man-made, that was one thing, but if it was due to supernatural forces, then he would undoubtedly be done for.
Jimmy was very self-aware. With his current abilities, Heart Eye was just a radar and his revolver was just an ordinary gun. He wasn't afraid of dealing with normal people, it was just a matter of a few bullets, at worst he'd fire another six-round burst. But if something that wasn't afraid of guns appeared, then even the best radar would be useless, and being foolhardy would only lead to death.
These past few days, the patent procedures had been completed, and he had successfully obtained the patent. Following Professor Morgan's advice, Jimmy had the patent registered under the company's name, holding it jointly with the company as the inventor.
Sergeant Cage had already seen the new version of the police light, and he was very interested. However, Jimmy needed to first customize a complete set of police lights according to the existing functions and dimensions to be placed on a patrol car for comprehensive functionality testing.
Jimmy then spent the following days of rest working solely on this.
The old police lights had just a single unit on top of a patrol car, but Jimmy had previously drawn a big picture for Sergeant Cage and Chief James, including additional police lights on both sides of the top bar light and front headlights, one light on the dashboard or behind the central rearview mirror, and one light on each side of the rear tail lights. There was also the mobile single-barreled police light that was currently in Cage's hands.
Jimmy hadn't found a factory to do the work yet, nor had he opened a mold; he was still at the handcraft stage. Although the appearance wasn't very appealing, he had finally managed to produce all the police lights.
Cage had already arranged with a repair shop to find an old patrol car. They took it apart, made enough space for Jimmy's new police lights, and had places ready for the strip light, the front and rear lights, central lights, and single-barreled light. The mechanics at the repair shop were also very interested and a group of them helped with the installation, then prepared two extra car batteries placed inside the vehicle as power sources.
After more than two weeks, Jimmy had finally installed his set of police lights on the Victoria Crown. An old patrol car equipped with handmade ugly police lights, if he had not created it himself, would surely have been dismantled by now as an eyesore.
Choosing a night time, Chief James brought a group from another team to the exhibition. Jimmy didn't hold back with them and directly switched on the police light power. Instantly, all the lights in the front, back, and top of the car lit up, flashing alternately in red and blue blocks. Due to the handmade assembly, the uneven glue at some joints allowed light leakage, looking from up close, it was practically light pollution.
Of course, the term "light pollution" might not exist yet, but Chief James and the others should already be experiencing that sensation. The dazzling effect of alternating red and blue lights was irritating to the eyes, and several put on the glasses they carried while on duty.
Wearing sunglasses late at night, they really looked like a bunch of mental patients from some institution, circling the patrol car a few times before standing at a distance to observe the effects.
"Congratulations, Jimmy, on a great invention, a fine product," Chief James said, coming up to Jimmy and patting his shoulder.
"Thank you, Chief," said Jimmy, as a subordinate, very consciously lowering his head a little and shaking the Chief's hand with both of his.
"Hurry up with the finished product, we can start with replacing the lights in two cars for testing."
"Got it, Chief. I will find a factory to make the molds and make it look better."
"Alright, I'm off. Remember to come to work tomorrow."
"Goodbye, Chief."
Jimmy saw Chief James off the testing ground and then turned back to find Cage had already switched off the police lights.
"Jimmy, it looks like the Chief is very satisfied. Do you have any plans for how to proceed? Making two sets of police lights can't be handcrafted like this one; they're too ugly," said Cage.
"Not yet, I need to look for some company information to consult," Jimmy replied.
"OK, you carry on then, we're heading back," said the group as they left together, while Jimmy stayed behind to dismantle the police lights with the mechanics from the repair shop.
After paying the repair shop, the remaining patrol car was probably headed for the junkyard. To fit the lights, so much punching and cutting had been done to it that it was even more battered than before.
Jimmy had not yet found a suitable factory. If it was just making two sets for the police station, that wasn't difficult, as he had the prototype equipment. All that was needed was to find a custom maker to handcraft two appropriate shells and related connectors and such.
Through an intermediary, Jimmy got in contact with a mold workshop that mainly made molds for equipment design. For small orders like Jimmy's that required only two sets, it was a simple matter of the workshop staff taking on a private job. The cost was high, but Jimmy didn't have a choice without a manufacturing factory and a fixed design plan. Even if he contacted a manufacturer, he didn't have a design to provide them.
