North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 849 - 503: The Reason
After leaving the hospital, Jimmy found a mobile phone store and bought a prepaid phone to call Winston, the person most likely to handle this matter.
Jimmy: "Hi, Winston. It's Jimmy, I need your help."
Winston: "Oh, go ahead."
Jimmy: "I have two people who need protection for a while, unofficially."
Winston: "Is there more?"
Jimmy: "They're in Chicago."
Winston: "I think you might need to get them to New York."
Jimmy: "Can you arrange for someone to pick them up? I can't get away for now."
Winston: "Charon will contact you."
Jimmy: "Thanks, Winston."
Jimmy hung up the phone, suddenly realizing he forgot to ask about the price. Jimmy's liking for Winston grew quickly; now it felt like they were good friends, but actually, they hadn't interacted much.
Picking up the phone to redial, Jimmy put it down again. Oh well, Winston hadn't mentioned it, and in any case, let's deal with things first. I still have a lot of money with Winston.
The reward from the previous task had already been received, delivered by Charon, a small red box containing 20 Gold Coins, far exceeding Jimmy's initial expectation. He would be pleased if he could give fourteen back to Justin.
Whether it's a task or a favor from a friend, it will be settled later. Now, let's consider what to do next.
In the earlier conversation with Mahong, Jimmy had basically identified the target—an organization called "The Company." Although it hadn't been confirmed yet, Mahong shared his thought that since Hughes arranged for Jimmy to find Mahong, it must be connected to him.
Mahong's current trouble is "The Company," which is threatening him to kill several escapees, making them the biggest suspects. It surely couldn't be those escapees causing trouble from behind the scenes, right?
Jimmy is not at all interested in the escapees now, but since Mahong is unfamiliar with the people from The Company, he still needs to find a way to gather their information.
Jimmy visited various nearby stores, bought a laptop, a camera, some clothes, and checked into a hotel. By evening, he appeared on the streets, targeted some people, prepared his defenses, and didn't take long; soon, he had two guns in hand.
Such black-market guns were easily handled by Jimmy, and the two men he knocked down wouldn't choose to report to the police. After all, they were street dealers; getting robbed of their guns and then reporting it would cause them more trouble than it would for Jimmy.
During the day, Charon had already called Jimmy to confirm his location. Early the next morning, the hotel room door was knocked. When Jimmy opened the door, Charon surprisingly showed up himself.
Charon: "Good morning, Mr. Yang."
Jimmy: "Charon, you came yourself. I thought you'd arrange for someone else to come. Come in."
Charon entered the room: "The manager hopes things will go more smoothly."
Jimmy: "Hold on a minute, I need to pack up and head to the hospital first."
Charon did not sit down to rest but stood with his gloved hands in front of him. His suit was impeccably sharp, and there was nothing to fault in his etiquette.
Jimmy had known from Justin a long time ago that Charon was Winston's most trusted person, definitely not just a simple front desk staffer. In fact, Charon was more like Winston's butler; no matter when you saw Charon, his demeanor always made you feel very comfortable.
