North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 856 - 508: Mahong's Secret (Part 3)
Jimmy, Mahong, and two office agents gathered around, quietly watching the video.
Lincoln and Mike, the two brothers, explained their identities in the TV footage, the reasons for their prison break, and the false accusations against them. They also revealed a hidden agency called the 'Company,' supposedly a company but actually serving high-ranking government officials. Under the protection of the Special Service Bureau, they acted with impunity, killing dozens to hide the truth.
Mike also expressed his apologies to Dr. Sarah Tancredi, who was innocently dragged into the situation because his actions led to her being pursued and on the run.
In the end, he directly targeted Mahong, saying Mahong was responsible for a series of deaths, including several prison break suspects and a fugitive he had previously pursued, Oscar Shars, who had escaped two years ago and had not been captured since.
Mahong stared at the TV without any expression as Mike accused him of murder, while the surrounding agents looked at him. Mahong dismissively said, "This guy's crazy."
He said to Philicia, "Call Montana and have them send someone to talk to that photographer. I want to know what he heard, what he saw, what they were wearing—any available intel."
Philicia looked at Mahong with a complicated expression and nodded. Mahong continued to tell the other agents, "Get the video, take a close look, and see if there are any other clues in the footage." With that, he turned and went back to his office.
Jimmy, always the invisible one, stood by silently, now understanding Mahong's dependency on sedatives.
Since Mike pinned the two-year-old prison break fugitive Oscar Shars on Mahong, claiming it was his doing, there's a high chance it's true.
Because Mike is a fugitive himself, his words hold little credibility, especially this kind of public statement, which is likely viewed as a smokescreen to disrupt the investigation.
Now he relies on a segment of video to explain his reason for breaking out of prison, claiming the Company sent agents to hunt them. He must be hoping his words will trigger the OPR or other departments to initiate an investigation targeting Mahong, restricting his pursuit of Mike and Lincoln.
If everything he said were false, it would be impossible to stall Mahong and would reduce the credibility of other statements in the video.
This Mike is a smart individual; it's unlikely he'd make a grave error over something so trivial.
So, calculating the timeline, two years ago, fugitive Oscar Shars escaped; a year and a half ago, Mahong started taking sedatives; over a year ago, Mahong divorced his ex-wife, with his son going with her. A year ago, Mahong agreed to transfer to Manhattan, leaving Chicago. Everything connects smoothly.
Jimmy turned to look at Mahong returning to his office, and another previous suspicion became clear too.
The 'Company' people have leverage over Mahong not only through his ex-wife and son but also through the still-at-large Oscar Shars.
Mahong must have taken private justice into his own hands, secretly taking out Oscar, then discovered by the 'Company' people, which became his Achilles' heel.
Considering the current situation, Mahong definitely didn't kill just one or two people. Perhaps when taking out Oscar, other incidents occurred, causing extreme emotional tension, requiring sedatives to calm down.
Even after a long time, he hasn't recovered, leading to his divorce from his ex-wife. Given his current anxiety about the safety of his ex-wife and son, it's evident his past instability could have harmed them, prompting him to propose a painful divorce.
Jimmy suddenly realized that relocating Pam and Cameron might not completely liberate Mahong; there is still a lot of trouble here.
