North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 858 - 507: Open for Business (Part 2)
Jimmy stood and fired, using Heart Eye for assistance, with his own revolver. His accuracy was very high, and his shooting speed and quick aiming were incredibly fast.
One shot to the body, one to the head; the three people only managed to reflexively turn around, not even having a chance to fire back at Jimmy before they were all downed, their guns falling to the ground.
The crisis of Mahong being besieged by multiple enemies was resolved. As he fell, he was already firing from his waist. He was using a Glock, and the trigger safety mechanism meant Mahong didn't waste any time unlocking it, firing several shots directly into those lunging at him.
However, those lunging at him were only hit in the body, and didn't completely lose their ability to attack. One reached out and grabbed Mahong's arm, and the two began grappling on the ground. In this situation, Mahong had no chance to shoot again, and given his gunshot wound to the left chest hadn't fully healed, it still affected his movements during the fight, causing him to be quickly subdued.
Jimmy didn't reload but instead ran while pulling out another 1875, then tucked the Python back into his shoulder holster.
There was only one person left, still entangled with Mahong, so Jimmy didn't fire but instead ran over and kicked him off Mahong. Once Mahong had some distance, he immediately raised his gun and fired two shots, eliminating everyone.
Shooting on the roadside in broad daylight posed a huge problem; Mahong sat up, gasping heavily, and Jimmy looked at the four people on the ground and asked, "How are we going to handle these guys?"
Mahong: "I'll deal with it, you go first."
Jimmy: "I used my own revolver."
Mahong: "Don't worry."
Jimmy nodded, put away the 1875, and turned to walk towards the car at the corner.
Even though Mahong was still gasping heavily, he got up, retrieved a phone from the car, hung up Jimmy's call, and dialed another number. Then he sat sideways at the driver's seat, waiting for someone to come over.
Jimmy hadn't left; after turning a corner, he got in his car, stopping to watch Mahong's position. The range of Heart Eye was growing, initially only about ten meters, now extending beyond sixty meters, and it seemed to have intentions of continuing to increase.
The effective range of Jimmy's Glock and revolver was about fifty meters; beyond that, one relies on luck for the hit, and the other suffers significant loss of kinetic energy. So, when using the revolver, if Heart Eye sees it, it can hit about right.
A distant range also has an advantage in situations like now where he was around the corner, able to see Mahong's situation across the wall at this side, which is truly convenient.
After a few minutes, a police car arrived, its rooftop lights conspicuously bright. Mahong got up and allowed them to verify his identity, and the police maintained order on the scene until more cars arrived, setting a perimeter and starting the investigation.
Seeing this, Jimmy took out his phone and sent Mahong a text message, telling him to contact him once things were settled, then started his car and left.
Jimmy wasn't sure about Chicago's way of handling things, but since Mahong said he would handle it, he had to trust him. As for the issue of testimonies and such, that could be dealt with later since there was no time now.
Jimmy didn't return to the hotel as Mahong had previously mentioned something about wrapping things up. Jimmy drove to a park, checked a map carefully, then started heading to the address Mahong had mentioned.
Along the way, he made a call, as Charon had already arranged for a standalone villa in Long Island as a temporary safe house for Mahong's ex-wife Pam and son Cameron, and arranged for someone from the hotel to take care of them, advising them not to leave the villa for now.
Confirming that everything was settled well for Pam, Jimmy also inquired about a meal delivery number in Chicago, which Charon didn't refuse. After checking briefly, he gave him a number, saying it could be reached anytime, 7*24. He also gave an address, asking Jimmy to drop by and pick up a gift.
Surprised, Jimmy parked at the roadside to check the map, noting it wasn't far, which made it convenient to visit. Jimmy didn't suspect Charon of setting a trap for him, instead wondering what it might be.
In the daylight, South Chicago was much safer compared to nighttime. Jimmy drove to the designated street, slowly driving along it, and eventually spotted the address Charon had given – a second-hand goods store named 'Yesterday's Treasure.'
The store's name was indeed nice, and Jimmy also noticed a familiar emblem on the bottom left corner of the second-hand store's signboard — not in silver, but etched into the wooden signboard, something easy to miss unless familiar with it.
With this emblem, there is no doubt that this store is also an InterContinental Hotel partner, much like Justin's bar in Little Rock.
Jimmy parked beside the store entrance, pushed open the store door, and walked in.
"Ding-ling," the welcoming bell sounded, the gray-haired and white-haired middle-aged cashier looked up at Jimmy, smiling and saying: "Welcome, feel free to look around."
Jimmy: "Sir, I'm here to pick up a package from Manhattan, under the name Jimmy."
The middle-aged man: "Full name?"
Jimmy: "Jimmy Yang."
The middle-aged man nodded: "One moment."
He got up, left the cash register, and headed to the back warehouse. Soon, he returned with a deep red, long, rectangular wooden box. "Please check, Mr. Yang."
Jimmy took the box, flicked the latch on the side to open it, discovering ten InterContinental Hotel gold coins lined vertically inside. He quickly closed the lid, smiling and thanking the middle-aged man before leaving the second-hand store.
There's no doubt this small box was arranged last minute by Charon. When Jimmy came to Chicago to pick up Pam and her son to go back to New York, he likely had neither the time nor reason to prepare a box of gold coins. It must have been when he requested a meal delivery number earlier that Charon considered he might need it and instructed someone here to get it packed and ready for Jimmy.
Jimmy had over two million in cash stored with Winston at the InterContinental Hotel; this was after deducting the Washington, D.C. mission reward. These funds were hard-earned from a long period of effort while in New Mexico, which Justin delivered to New York at his request but remained untouched, primarily due to Jimmy lacking money-laundering channels, and because the amount was too large.
It seems retrieving this money is unlikely, given the myriad of services Charon and Winston can provide Jimmy. The money might as well be used directly as a fee at the InterContinental Hotel.
Jimmy arrived at West Woodlawn, also known for its chaos. In Chicago, a hellish city, there aren't many truly safe areas besides a few exceptions.
Jimmy parked the car at the garage door in the back alley, put on disposable gloves, got out, and tried using the key Mahong gave him, but it didn't open. He then went to the front door and tried it, finding it opened fine, indicating no problems. At the entrance hallway, he found a bunch of keys, took them back to the garage, and after trying several, finally discovered the car Mahong needed wrapped up inside.
In the car's trunk, curled up, was a body that had been deceased for some time. Jimmy did a quick search, taking out a wallet and a handgun, but didn't find a phone, as it was likely taken by Mahong. Once confirming everything was as it should be, Jimmy ordered a solo dinner and waited in his car, smoking as he did so.
