North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 859 - 508: Opportunity (Supplement)
After waiting for nearly an hour, a truck from the cleaning company stopped behind Jimmy's car. Two young Mexican men and a bald white old man got out.
I don't know if it's the rule of the Intercontinental Hotel, but it seems that every time you call to order food, the people who come are always an old man with a few younger ones, the same setup in several cities.
Jimmy got out of the car, waved, and greeted them, then opened the garage door. "Take care of the stuff in the trunk, and if possible, take this car away too. It needs to be destroyed." He handed a prepared coin to the old man, "Thank you for your hard work."
The old man smiled and said, "It's an honor to serve you. Young fellows, let's get to work."
Jimmy stepped back a little, watching them enter the garage, pulling down half of the rolling shutter door, and starting to lay down plastic sheets and cling film on the ground, beginning to organize.
"Ring ring" Jimmy's phone rang. He walked out of the garage with the phone and answered it, "Hi, I guess I have no choice. I'm in. But I think we still need to discuss the terms."
Jimmy laughed, "No problem, I think we have plenty of time to talk about the future. I'll contact you, bye."
Although the person on the other end didn't mention their name, Jimmy could still recognize Dylan's voice.
Jimmy had only asked about his intentions before and hadn't disclosed the reward he was preparing, so given his choice now, even if it's Hell, it's more acceptable than prison.
He even chose to join without negotiating terms, indicating that the pressure Jimmy gave during their evening talk was a bit too much.
Once the garage was cleaned up, the old man had one of the young men drive the car away, then bid farewell to Jimmy and left. Mahong's side of the cleanup was finally finished, giving him some relief; if the bodies had stayed in the trunk for two more days, it wouldn't be able to be covered up anymore.
Finally finished, Jimmy drove back to the hotel. This house must be Mahong's safe house. Come to think of it, Jimmy doesn't have such a safe house yet. It seems necessary to get one, but with New York property prices, the thought alone gives a toothache. Better to think it over.
A two-story standalone house in New York and Chicago are two different stories. Not to mention standalone, even Jimmy's apartment cost just over a million when he bought it more than two years ago. In the South Chicago area, you could probably buy at least two of those houses, with a front lawn and a backyard.
However, if he sets one up in the Bronx or Queens, it should be much cheaper and viable, and he also needs to think about what identity to use to buy.
These things can be sorted out slowly; it's not a big problem. If nothing works out, the CIA backup identity Tom prepared for him is also a real fake identity that can be used directly.
At night, Mahong sent a text message to Jimmy, "Done."
Straightforward, no nonsense. Very good, and you can also see how capable Mahong is in the Chicago he's been operating in for a long time.
This was a gunfight that happened in broad daylight; four people died, yet it was settled so quietly. Handling it, officially or unofficially, is not easy, something even Jimmy can't achieve in New York.
Officially solving it at least requires dealing with the forensic doctor's office. You need to know that three people were killed by .357 Magnum bullets, and the shape of the bullet holes and wounds is completely different from his Glock. To make them ignore that is very difficult to manage.
Handling it privately is even more troublesome. Jimmy already saw that a patrol officer had arrived on site, which means it was archived in the dispatch center. Trying to make the four bodies disappear directly impacts more than just one or two departments.
Now Jimmy relies more on the Intercontinental Hotel's ordering service to deal with the bodies; it's still not safe enough. He needs to learn more from those seasoned agents.
No matter how Mahong handled it, Jimmy also has trouble. He has no prior experience in building a team. Now with a potential partner, he still needs to figure out a suitable identity and environment for Dylan. Otherwise, simply letting him stay in New York doing nothing will surely lead to problems sooner or later.
This is not a simple task; it's not like those stand-alone cases in movies and TV series where you temporarily find a warehouse or something. Now, he can't just let Dylan stay in a warehouse all the time.
Dylan's situation isn't urgent, but preparations still need to be made in advance. Maybe Dylan won't be the only one later on.
Jimmy was online with his laptop when his phone rang. He glanced at it and frowned, answering the call, "Hughes?"
Hughes: "Where are you?"
Jimmy: "Chicago."
Hughes: "Drop what you're doing and fly to Florida, Miami immediately. Let me know your flight details. I'll have someone pick you up at the airport and take you to Palm Beach."
Jimmy: "What happened?"
Hughes: "A seaside villa there was attacked. Our office's Deputy Director Dave Hudson was on site and got shot. You're going to assist Deputy Director Hudson. He'll assign the specific tasks."
Jimmy: "Understood, I'll book a ticket."
Hughes: "Be careful, big players might be involved there, and it's a chance to show yourself."
Jimmy: "Got it, thanks."
Jimmy quickly packed his luggage. Although he came to Chicago with nothing, he bought quite a few backup items in the past few days. After thinking for a moment, Jimmy decided to go to Miami empty-handed.
Jimmy called to check flights, but unfortunately, the last flight to Miami was set to take off in only half an hour, and he couldn't possibly make it to Chicago airport in time.
