North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 860 - 508: Opportunity (Supplement 2)
With the phone tapping in his hand, Jimmy still decided to spend more money to get it sorted. He had never rented a private jet before and didn't know how to choose, so he thought for a moment and then opened his address book, dialing the bank's number.
The voice of a customer service representative came through the phone: "Good evening, Mr. Yang, how can I assist you?"
Jimmy: "I need to urgently fly from Chicago to Palm Beach, Florida. Please book me a private jet to depart in about an hour."
Customer Service: "One moment, please."
Banks typically offer exclusive customer service or account managers for premium cardholders, providing them with professional services or other financial advice.
Jimmy had significant savings at their bank. Compared to many others who had fixed assets, Jimmy had very few fixed assets but a lot of liquid cash. Naturally, he was a high-value customer who always had a dedicated customer service representative, though he rarely used it.
After a while, the customer service replied: "Mr. Yang, thank you for waiting. We've found a private jet that can be ready in an hour. The basic charge is ten thousand US Dollars, with an additional urgent fee of two thousand dollars, which includes crew wages, airport surcharges, and insurance fees, totaling 12,000 US Dollars. Would you like to proceed with the booking?"
Jimmy: "OK, please make the reservation for me."
Customer Service: "Alright, the order is confirmed. Please proceed to DuPage Airport in Western Chicago. The pilot will contact you."
Jimmy: "Thank you. Goodbye."
Jimmy packed his bags, checked out, and called Mahong, driving to Mahong's place. Jimmy opted to travel empty-handed to Miami, so he needed to leave the rest with Mahong. His bag contained three black market guns, which he couldn't just leave lying around. Two were "borrowed" from dealers on the street, and one was confiscated from a person surveilling Pam.
Jimmy headed to the airport. The private airport was much more convenient than commercial flights. After a simple confirmation of his order, he boarded the plane and took off directly.
Jimmy called Hughes to inform him that he chose to take a private jet to Palm Beach, which left Hughes a bit puzzled.
He just wanted Jimmy to make an appearance, show himself to the higher-ups, and if there were no flights at night, flying there in the morning would have been fine, just a few hours' delay, no big deal.
Now Jimmy was rushing over on a private jet overnight, which was completely out of character for an FBI agent. Since Jimmy ended up in Palm Beach directly, there was no need to arrange for someone to pick him up at Miami Airport.
Over three hours later, Jimmy disembarked at Glades Airport in Palm Beach County. The rental company had already arranged a taxi to wait at the airport, and he headed straight to the hospital.
Palm Beach is a world-renowned tourist resort, also known as a billionaire's vacation paradise. It's one of the most expensive areas for mansions in the United States, with an average price of tens of millions of US Dollars. Homeowners here are genuinely wealthy or noble.
The beautiful natural scenery, diverse cultural intersections, and prominent social events make Palm Beach a coveted travel destination worldwide. Of course, many people also come here to experience the lifestyle of the rich.
When Jimmy arrived at the hospital, it was close to two in the morning. He presented his credentials to the nurse station for identity confirmation, finally obtaining Dave Hudson's room number. It seemed like confidentiality here was quite good.
There was a police officer outside the hospital room. Jimmy flashed his ID and looked through the glass pane on the door, seeing Deputy Director Dave Hudson asleep on the hospital bed, with a middle-aged woman resting on the armchair beside him.
Jimmy gently knocked on the door, and the accompanying lady turned to look at the door, got up, and exited the ward. "Who are you?"
Jimmy: "Ma'am, I'm Jimmy Yang from the FBI's Manhattan office. How should I address you? How is Mr. Hudson?"
Woman: "I'm Dave's wife, Lucy. I'm glad you could make it. Dave was shot in the right shoulder, and he hasn't woken up since the surgery."
Jimmy: "Were you at the scene when the shooting happened? What happened there?"
Lucy: "We were attending a fundraising banquet. Around 8 p.m., gunfire erupted in the villa, and chaos ensued. Dave was shot. We hid aside until the shooting stopped and the police arrived. Only then did we come to the hospital. I have no idea what really happened. Perhaps Dave can tell you once he wakes up."
Jimmy: "OK, I'll wait here. Please let me know when Mr. Hudson wakes up."
Lucy nodded: "I appreciate you coming over so quickly, thank you."
Jimmy: "You're welcome. I'll be right outside."
Lucy returned to the ward. Jimmy went to the nurse's station, grabbed a folding chair, and sat outside the room with the police officer. Since he'd rushed over urgently, he naturally needed to demonstrate his attitude. Standing guard wasn't a big deal; leaving a good impression was the most important thing.
The urgent notice from Hughes was exactly for this purpose. Normally, they would arrange for an agent to come the next day, reaching the scene by afternoon. Jimmy had arrived 12 hours earlier, showing their attitude and high importance on the matter.
More than half an hour later, a nurse came running over. Jimmy turned to look at the room; Dave seemed to have woken up.
The nurse entered the ward and called the doctor. Jimmy watched from outside as they conducted some checks and asked questions to Dave, ensuring there was nothing serious before he entered.
Jimmy looked at Dave, "Mr. Hudson, I'm Jimmy Yang."
Dave stared at Jimmy in surprise: "Jimmy? You got here so quickly?"
Jimmy: "Yes, Hughes urgently notified me, so I rushed right over. How are you feeling?"
Dave glanced at his right shoulder, "There's no major issue. Have you looked into the case yet?"
Jimmy: "Not yet. I came straight from the airport to the hospital and haven't contacted the police yet. Mr. Hudson, what happened?"
Dave: "My wife and I were at a fundraising banquet. Everything was normal at first, but later a gunfight broke out in the villa, and I got hit. The scene was chaotic, and the number of shooters was uncertain because many attendees had bodyguards."
Jimmy: "What should I do?"
Dave: "You don't need to do anything for now. Please wait; I need to contact someone to confirm something."
Jimmy: "Alright, I'll be right outside."
Dave nodded, and Jimmy turned to leave. Lucy then approached Dave's bedside, holding his hand.
It was evident that Dave was quite surprised to see Jimmy. The distance from New York to Palm Beach isn't short, and seeing an agent from his office after being shot was certainly a pleasant surprise.
With the door to the ward closed, Jimmy couldn't hear what Dave and Lucy were talking about inside. Their voices were very low, and Jimmy could only see their actions through Heart Eye.
This shooting incident wasn't simple. This is Palm Beach, with numerous billionaires. Such a place having a gunfight, regardless of any fatalities, was a major incident.
Jimmy wasn't in a position to inquire about details. The hospital didn't have a TV, but news was likely already out by now.
Jimmy looked at the police officer next to him: "How should I address you?"
Officer: "Anthony Rodriguez, Palm Beach Police Department."
Jimmy: "Has there been any progress in the investigation of the shooting?"
Anthony: "I'm not sure. I've been assigned here to protect the victim."
Jimmy: "How many others were injured?"
Anthony: "Sorry, I cannot disclose any related information. You can contact the police department."
Jimmy nodded, not asking further. On-site investigation was the job of the detectives, and with the involvement of billionaires or celebrities, confidentiality was even more necessary. He would wait for Dave's confirmation, as this wasn't New York, and there weren't many things Jimmy could get involved in. Even if he needed to intervene in the case, he'd need authorization first.
