North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 868 - 512: Prisoner Rescue (Part 2)
Jimmy recounted the entire incident of tracking the so-called paparazzo and capturing a gunman today, so that Dave would have a clear idea, and then he bade farewell and left the hospital.
Jimmy didn't go straight back to the hotel, instead, he chose to drive to Wellington. He had absolutely no traces to pursue the other three, but there was still a computer expert in their villa.
The same old issue persisted; due to Jimmy's identity limitations, he couldn't directly go and grab the computer expert, lacking a reason to do so would only bring trouble upon himself.
Now that they caught one, at least it gave Dave an explanation, he intended to monitor that computer expert. Even if he couldn't go in directly to catch him, he would keep an eye on him from the outside. If things went smoothly, he might even obtain information from a support member.
Arriving in Wellington, Jimmy got lost for a while due to unfamiliarity, but he remembered the road names from before and found his way using the map.
However, Jimmy was late. The travel van that was parked outside was already gone. Jimmy used Heart Eye to scan the villa and found that the room where the computers were was already empty. The small cart, computers, and multiple monitors had all disappeared. It seemed they packed up quickly and started fleeing once exposed.
Alas, this wasn't New York or Little Rock. Jimmy couldn't request the police to cooperate in monitoring surveillance, and he had no way to directly investigate their escape route — it was really a mess.
Jimmy, helpless, drove back to the hotel in Palm Beach. After staying up for two days like this, Jimmy was exhausted and had to rest well.
Back at the hotel, after taking a shower, Jimmy felt a bit exasperated. This time over, he was busy for over a day without even having the chance to go shopping. Without a laptop to surf the internet, he could only turn on the TV to pass the time, waiting for his hair to dry before lying down.
When he woke up, Jimmy glanced at his watch — it was already almost 11 o'clock. He indeed had overextended himself earlier. Normally, Jimmy only needed about 5 hours of sleep a day to feel energetic.
He checked his phone — no contacts, which was good. He had already handled the toughest part of this case; the rest should be manageable by the Miami office. Even if Lee slackened off, with the results already laid out, he wouldn't directly give up.
Turning on the TV to the news channel, there was no news about the shooting. When it comes to media control, the Americans are truly adept.
Jimmy went to the bathroom to freshen up when he suddenly heard a noise and ran out to look at the TV.
Two days ago in Florida, a warehouse caught fire and exploded. The identities of several people who were burned and blown to death have been confirmed, all were Arabs.
This tragedy was initially thought to be an accident, but the nature of the event changed after confirming the deceased's identities.
The police and FBI conducted an examination of the remnants in the warehouse and ultimately determined that the explosives were involved, and there were also remnants of firearms in the warehouse.
The FBI had ample reason to suspect that they were planning a terror attack and are now conducting a large-scale investigation into the warehouse and related personnel. This explosion case became the news headline, overshadowing all other news.
Watching the news, Jimmy understood why the FBI seemed indifferent about the shooting case here — their attention must be on the foiled terror attack. Their experts were likely reassigned, and the remaining personnel prioritizing the shooting case here naturally caused delays.
After watching the news and freshening up, Jimmy called Christopher Lee to inquire about the interrogation results. Unfortunately, although a preliminary interrogation could quickly follow surgery, the gunman Jimmy had caught had no intention of cooperating and wouldn't open his mouth.
Due to three gunshot wounds on his limbs, the suspect hadn't been transferred; he was still in the hospital, but two supporting agents were stationed at the door, waiting for the hospital to issue transfer papers before moving him to a detention center.
The suspect, despite having three gunshot wounds, still had handcuffs on, with both hands cuffed to the bed, unlike the movies where only one hand is cuffed to the bed.
Lee wasn't in a good mood, but he didn't show any signs of non-cooperation on the phone. Jimmy didn't ask much. He had already clarified his role previously — unless it's very urgent, he served as Dave's eyes and ears, only following the case progress.
If they had more people during yesterday's tracking and could manage two cars separately, they might have caught the target for sure. Unfortunately, he was alone at the time, so he had to guess. Eventually, he only caught one, wasting many opportunities.
For now, there wasn't much for him to do. Jimmy could take the opportunity to stroll around Palm Beach and appreciate the beautiful scenery he hadn't noticed these past two days. Jimmy walked around the beach; it wasn't quite the right time. If he were here just for tourism, he'd change into swimwear and swim in the sea, though simply admiring the beauties was also nice.
There were still a lot of tourists at Palm Beach, and especially many beauties. Many beauties came in pairs, sometimes making Jimmy feel dazzled. But Jimmy was already spoken for, so he didn't join in the fun, just admired.
A siren blared, and Jimmy turned his head to look at the road in the island — multiple police cars and some civilian cars sped across the intersection.
Palm Beach was indeed having a string of bad luck these days. Although police cars with sirens and lights flashing are often for minor cases, usually just one or two police cars, this convoy had quite a few cars.
Before Jimmy could reflect much, his phone rang, and upon answering, Lee's voice came through, "Jimmy, the person you captured has been rescued. Two of our agents were seriously injured and are undergoing emergency treatment."
Jimmy: "What! What happened?"
Lee: "We are giving chase. Three people disguised as doctors rescued the gunman and our two agents were shot."
Jimmy: "I just saw police cars chasing on the road, is that you guys?"
Lee: "Possibly, we are chasing; currently about to enter West Palm Beach."
Jimmy: "Understood, I'm heading out now."
Jimmy cursed under his breath, but couldn't say it over the phone. He quickly left the beach, ran to his rental car, and headed off in the direction the police cars had gone.
Jimmy was extremely exasperated now. With the police cars passing not long ago, traffic was still relatively smooth, he sped through the urban area while dialing Dave's number, "Mr. Hudson, the person I caught last night was rescued from the hospital. I just received a call from Lee, and I'm now pursuing them."
Dave: "When did this happen? Give more details."
Jimmy: "I'm not sure yet, just got the call." Jimmy smacked the horn hard, "Oh, Fxxk, can you drive! Sorry, just had a mishap. I just got a call from Lee and haven't gone to the hospital to learn more yet. I'm about to chase Lee and the police convoy."
Dave: "Alright, call me when you have news, I'm getting discharged today, waiting at the hotel for your updates."
Jimmy: "OK."
Hanging up Dave's call, Jimmy noticed a police car with flashing lights appearing in the rearview mirror, and dialed Lee again, "Lee, I'm in a rental car, now speeding to catch up with you, let the police know to stop chasing the car behind me. Let me report my car's license plate number to you."
Jimmy relayed both his car's and the police car chasing him their license plates, not knowing if Lee could settle it. Regardless of the outcome, he couldn't let the police stop him; if they did, it would waste too much time.
Lee acted quickly, and a few minutes later, the police car following Jimmy turned off its siren, leaving the lights flashing. After driving for a while, the police car came up beside him.
The officer inside made a forward gesture and then accelerated ahead of Jimmy's car, turning on the siren to become the lead car.
With the police car leading, Jimmy was finally back on track. He had previously deviated from Lee's convoy route. Now, with police guidance, he returned to the proper route and gave chase.
Their driving skills were good, and they finally caught up with the convoy ahead. An ambulance and an unmarked Ford Mustang were speeding along the road, followed by over a dozen cars from various departments, with two FBI vehicles tailing the police cars.
Once Jimmy caught up, he followed at the back, while the police car guiding him pulled over, slowing down and leaving the chase convoy.
