North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 937 - 543: Emergency Situation
Mahong took over the case smoothly; Chuck had already worked overtime at night to organize the report and all the information on the related evidence. After all, he is a seasoned detective, with rich experience, so as soon as Mahong took over, he immediately started the investigation, focusing mainly on the identities and social connections of those four bodies.
The NYPD's confirmation of identities was still insufficient; the FBI's database was more comprehensive, so the investigation was also more detailed.
The identities of the two robbers who hijacked the fire truck have been confirmed, and one of them worked at a car repair shop. Mahong immediately took Jimmy and called a few backup personnel, heading to Brooklyn.
Unfortunately, they were too late; there was no one at the repair shop, and it didn't seem like they left hurriedly. Although there were two cars being repaired, and some parts and tools were scattered around, the office was very clean.
Jimmy had already found the hidden room, but could only search around for the switch. Finally, he discovered a slightly different colored spot on the side of the cabinet outside the hidden room.
He pressed the spot, the cabinet lifted a little, and then moved sideways, revealing a hidden room.
Mahong: "Nice job. How did you know there was a secret room here?"
Jimmy looked into the hidden room; there was no one inside, and seemingly no danger: "Guessed. Let someone go in and gather some information."
Mahong nodded and waved his hand. An agent beside him, wearing gloves, walked into the hidden room.
Jimmy beckoned to Mahong, and the two left the office and went outside. "They cleaned up too well, obviously planned to retreat. I'm worried about that female gunman in the hospital."
Mahong: "I've arranged for five people to go to the hospital; they'll work shifts, ensuring at least two stay outside the ward. That should be enough."
Jimmy: "Not necessarily enough. Judging by the arrangement of the tables and chairs in this office, there were at least four people at this repair shop. We've only taken down two; two more got away. Plus, they might have other hideouts. I suspect if they plan to rescue someone from the hospital, their numbers might exceed our expectations."
Mahong looked at Jimmy: "That's just a guess, and we don't have enough manpower."
Jimmy: "If it's not enough, I'll go to the hospital while you continue the investigation. I'll keep an eye there to prevent accidents."
Mahong thought for a moment, then shook his head: "No, I think continuing our investigation into their identities is likely to lead to a direct confrontation."
Jimmy: "Do we have enough intelligence now for the investigation?"
Mahong nodded: "David is already investigating information on this repair shop. Soon relevant people will be identified, and we'll be very busy today."
Jimmy: "No, I don't think it will be so easy to find them. It could take a long time to investigate. I still think there is danger at the hospital."
Mahong: "If it really doesn't work out, should I contact SWAT? Have them send a few people over."
Jimmy shook his head: "Better not. They're troublesome, we need Hughes' approval, and it's necessary to find off-duty SWAT personnel, otherwise it affects regular operations. I'll go, just ensure the leads are clear and I'll head from the hospital to meet you."
Mahong: "Wait, let me think."
Jimmy took out a pack of cigarettes and handed one to Mahong. He also took one and lit it, and the two stood at the repair shop entrance, watching the vehicles passing by on the road, pondering.
As they were smoking, Mahong's phone rang. He glanced at it and answered: "Mahong... Fxxk!"
Mahong took the phone away from his ear and looked at Jimmy: "Something happened at the hospital, let's go."
Mahong shouted to the agents investigating behind him, telling them to continue, and quickly got into the car, heading to the hospital.
Jimmy drove and followed Mahong, then picked up the phone to call Mahong, "What happened?"
Mahong: "You guessed right, they indeed went there. People at the nurse station noticed two unfamiliar female nurses, and when they shouted, they startled our people. Then the two nurses shot and injured two agents, taking away the female gunman. That's the situation; I'll contact others to check."
After speaking, Mahong hung up the phone. Both cars turned on their hidden police lights and sirens, running through red lights, speeding toward the hospital.
After making two calls, Mahong confirmed the situation and immediately called Jimmy.
He had arranged five people at the hospital, working shifts to ensure two guards were always at the ward, while three were on rest breaks, albeit not on the same floor as the ward.
The rotation of five started with two people, then replaced two, and later a single person joined with one from the previous shift to cover the whole day, ensuring no one got too tired.
When the fake nurses shot, maybe careful about the FBI agents, they didn't aim directly at the head but shot at the chest. So, the two guards weren't killed on the spot. After the two gunwomen left, a nurse hiding nearby immediately ran over to perform emergency aid, barely saving their lives.
When they shot, the nurse at the station had already pressed the alarm. Besides the hospital bell blaring, it was connected to the NYPD command center, which had then deployed nearby patrol officers; it was just a matter of speed.
Two police cars were already parked at the hospital entrance. Four police officers hadn't entered the building yet, just watching from the sides, waiting for backup. When Jimmy and Mahong's cars arrived, flashing police lights and sirens, the four officers didn't aim their guns at them, merely glanced and turned back to watch the hospital building.
