North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 944 - 546: Changing Sides (Part 2)
Mahong nodded, looking outside the meeting room. Hughes was already standing at the door during their conversation, watching them. Hughes gestured, opened his office door, and went in.
Mahong patted Jimmy, and the two of them went to Hughes' office. Jimmy repeated his suspicions, looking at Hughes, waiting for his response.
Hughes walked to the window, looking at the skyscrapers outside, waiting a few minutes before turning around, "Are you confident you can protect yourselves?"
Jimmy looked at Mahong, "I'm sure I'm fine. Mahong?"
Mahong: "No problem, I'll be careful."
Hughes: "I'll notify the bomb squad. If you notice anything unusual, call them right away, even if you're just suspicious someone entered your apartment. If there's any suspicion, make the call."
Jimmy and Mahong nodded, "What about the hospital? We still have three colleagues admitted there."
Hughes: "I'll make arrangements to have them moved and put someone to look after them."
Mahong: "Jimmy, did you get the information?"
Jimmy: "They haven't called me yet, it needs some time."
Mahong looked at Hughes, "Alright then, we'll get back to work."
Hughes nodded, while Mahong and Jimmy got up to leave. Hughes picked up the phone to notify someone to come to his office, as he needed to arrange people to handle the potential trouble left behind.
Jimmy and Mahong arrived at the Homicide Team office, a place Jimmy had been for almost three years and was very familiar with.
David saw the two come in and looked up to ask, "How's it going?"
Mahong: "So far, no results. I'll be going out with Jimmy for a bit. Call me if anything comes up."
David nodded and went back to investigating. The information Jimmy took could mostly be found here, though not much was discoverable. David had been busy all day with minimal results.
Mahong gathered his things, took a briefcase, and went downstairs with Jimmy. Once at the underground parking lot, Mahong told Jimmy, "You continue investigating, I'll check them out too. Contact me as soon as you find anything."
Jimmy: "You be careful."
Mahong nodded, got into his Suburban, and drove off. This was the FBI office building's underground parking lot, if a bomb were planted here, it would be ridiculous.
Jimmy also got in his car, driving out to a park. He sat on a nearby bench, using Heart Eye to meticulously observe the car, noting all external features to ensure he could detect any unusual objects the next time he used Heart Eye to observe the car.
As for the inside, it's difficult. He could only observe its current state, if something were installed inside an object, he had no means to deal with it.
Jimmy had no choice but to use this clumsy method. He could handle other things, but if he truly got blown up, there would be nothing he could do.
Jimmy drove around outside, not fast, just aimlessly circling Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Mahong hoped to get leads as quickly as possible, so he hoped Jimmy could go out, meet more people, but Jimmy hoped to become bait himself. As long as it was a head-on conflict, as long as the numbers weren't too many, he was confident he could handle them.
This confidence stemmed from the last time he was ambushed on the street, five people, one tactical team, taken down by Jimmy on the street. The people in the hospital, in Jimmy's view, were completely unqualified, compared to those who ambushed him before, they seemed a bit too weak.
Jimmy drove for a while, then decided to go directly to Queens. He stopped at a pier where a woman gunman and others had prepared to leave, seeing the area still sealed off with caution tape before leaving. It wouldn't be opened anytime soon.
After lunch outside, Jimmy called Olivia from the Anti-Terrorism Bureau, getting very bad news. Aside from the fingerprints of two confirmed auto shop employees, the fingerprints of the remaining four people were nowhere to be found in various institutions' fingerprint databases, with no matches currently.
Photos were even more troublesome. The criminal database didn't have any matching individuals, and the surveillance near the hospital didn't capture any photos of them entering the hospital. It was inferred they might have used vehicles like trucks, but the area had too much traffic and too many vehicles on the roads, making it impossible to check bit by bit.
Jimmy was a bit frustrated, these people had no origin, making it hard to trace them further. The only person he could be certain of was Ms. Perkins, but he had no information on her, and even the surname Perkins might not be real, given her line of work, anything could happen.
Jimmy parked outside a park and entered, finding a secluded spot to rest.
He realized he had a flawed plan. He's still unsure what the adversary intends to do, whether it's revenge or fleeing, and by putting himself out as bait, he can't guarantee he'll catch anything.
Jimmy's phone rang, he glanced at it, frowning as he answered, "Charon, what is it?"
Charon: "Mr. Yang, do you have time now?"
Jimmy: "Is it urgent?"
Charon: "I think it is."
Jimmy: "It's inconvenient to go to the hotel now, let's meet outside, I'm at Flushing Park in Queens."
Charon: "Alright, Mr. Yang."
Jimmy hung up the phone, looking up at the sky. The hotel showed interest, their stance had changed, which was why Jimmy didn't immediately agree to go there.
Charon had previously stated they were neutral, but after such a big incident yesterday, they contacted him today, making it hard not to think of the situation.
Jimmy looked around, making sure no one was watching him, then took out his Glock and revolver to check them fully, ensuring if something unexpected happened, he wouldn't have to worry about the gun jamming.
Charon took over half an hour to arrive, and he wasn't alone. A middle-aged man followed him, a step behind, indicating Charon held a higher status than him.
Charon stopped in front of Jimmy, and Jimmy stood up to face them. Charon: "Mr. Yang, I'm sorry to meet you in this manner."
Jimmy: "It's okay, Charon, what's going on?"
Charon: "Please allow me to introduce, this gentleman is Magic Jude, a broker and intelligence dealer. Mr. Jude, this is Mr. Yang, Jimmy Yang."
Jude smiled, stepping forward to shake hands with Jimmy, "Nice to meet you."
Jimmy nodded, "Nice to meet you. So, what brings you two here?"
Jude: "I apologize, Mr. Yang, due to some oversight, information involving you and Mr. Mahong was leaked."
Jimmy squinted his eyes, then stared at Jude, "What do you mean?"
Jude: "I obtained this intelligence today, someone purchased information last night about the hospital shooting yesterday, the parties involved, and the current investigation progress. I wasn't notified yesterday for some reasons, but the intelligence has already been sold."
Jimmy: "So, someone already knows it was us handling yesterday's incident, correct?"
Jude: "Yes."
Jimmy looked at Charon, "Charon, I think I need an explanation."
Charon: "Mr. Jude, could you give us a moment alone?"
Jude nodded, "OK, OK." He then turned and walked away, standing about a dozen meters away, looking in another direction.
Charon ensured Jude had left, then gestured to sit down and talk, and they both sat on the bench.
Charon: "Mr. Yang, I'm sorry, I previously said we were neutral, but there was an unexpected incident this time, and I think some changes need to be made. They went too far, seriously impacting our interests."
Jimmy: "So, is it Ms. Perkins' people?"
Charon: "Yes, and this time they obtained FBI information through our channels. The upcoming events might be unexpected, even exposing the hotel itself."
Jimmy: "Are you guys going to take action?"
Charon: "Sorry, the hotel itself doesn't have force, we only provide services. All we can do is alert you in advance."
Jimmy: "Does Winston know?"
Charon: "Yes, I informed the manager as soon as I received the news."
Jimmy: "What did he say?"
Charon: "Sorry, there are some things we can't do."
Jimmy: "Then, can you give me the intelligence?"
Charon: "Of course, Mr. Jude will provide the relevant information."
Jimmy nodded, "I understand."
Charon stood up and approached Jude, who was facing away from them, "Mr. Jude, please ensure you provide Mr. Yang the intelligence he needs, thank you."
Jude turned around, nodded at Charon, and they both came in front of Jimmy, "Mr. Yang, please tell me what you need."
