North America Gunman Detective
Chapter 948 - 548: Ambush (Part 2)
This Suburban was newly issued by the bureau, the front door has been bulletproofed, and Jimmy huddled in the driver's seat, at least providing some guarantee of safety.
Jimmy initially planned to shoot directly, and then more gunshots rang out, with another person shooting from behind him on the right. Damn, it's not just one person. He stretched out his left hand to unlock the car and pushed the door open, rolling out to the left side to crouch behind the front door. Just as he was about to retaliate, he suddenly noticed a black little thing thrown over from the front right.
He didn't even have the time to curse and immediately bent over, rushing towards the opposite lane. The traffic chaos caused by the gunfight happened to allow him to duck in front of a car braking on the opposite lane.
A thunderous "boom" exploded a grenade in front of his car. The explosion combined with his movement behind the car blocked the sight of two gunmen, pausing their gunfire momentarily. The gunman from the front right pushed open the car door and got out, aiming at Jimmy's car as he moved over.
Jimmy stood up from behind the car on the opposite lane and aimed two shots at the gunman who shot first, not worrying about the report afterwards; he aimed straight at the head.
This gunman was a major threat; he had just thrown a grenade, and nobody knew if he had more in hand. He couldn't just let him pass casually.
Jimmy was just an ordinary person; bullets could wound him, and grenades could also injure or even kill him. For safety, he had to die.
Jimmy's counterattack was sudden. The gunman was searching for Jimmy's position beside the Suburban, not noticing him emerging from the other side to shoot, getting taken out instantly.
However, firing also exposed his position. Another gunman changed angle and shot directly at Jimmy's location, moving towards him while shooting. But the bullets were blocked by the car in front of him, having no effect.
When Jimmy fired, the driver in the car in front was already on the brink of insanity, screaming while huddled on the passenger seat to avoid the stray bullets.
Being the only one doesn't mean urgency. Jimmy looked around from behind the car and suddenly saw a woman emerging from the car behind holding a rifle, directly shooting at his position.
Jimmy was truly going crazy. He crouched behind the car to avoid the rifle's line of fire, first firing two shots at the one holding the handgun who dodged quickly. Jimmy dared not stand to shoot, relying only on instinct to determine the other's position to shoot, slightly off-target but not a big problem.
Glancing behind him, Jimmy noticed that due to the gunfight, people in the surrounding cars had already dashed to the side, not stupidly staying inside. The only outsider was the driver in the car before him, unable to leave amidst the flying bullets; most hitting his car. If not crouching low enough, he'd become a sieve.
Jimmy sidestepped with half his body exposed from the car's rear and emptied half a magazine towards the one who ambushed him earlier. The car between them indeed affected his shooting angle; although determining the position, the Glock's 9mm bullets weren't strong enough in penetration, altering the trajectory after penetrating without hitting the targeted spot.
After firing seven or eight shots, he saw the person fall to the ground, then turned to the woman holding the gun behind, tapping on the car: "Get out of the car quickly, crawl out. Be careful, you must be careful."
The unfortunate driver was caught between Jimmy and the last emerging female gunman. Plus, she used an AR15 rifle, which the normal car body couldn't block; inside the car offered no ballistic protection.
This woman was Jimmy's target Perkins, but she had clearly changed her hairstyle; previously with shoulder-length hair in the photo, now with a single ponytail tied at the back, wearing large sunglasses not recognized at first glance.
Shooting from the other side of the car, Jimmy attracted Perkins' aim towards his location, giving space for the driver to crawl out from the passenger seat, not easy.
Perkins fired several shots at Jimmy's position with the AR15, noticing poor shooting effects due to obstructed view, immediately ceased firing, hiding behind the car.
Jimmy intended to stand and pre-aim at her position, suddenly noticing her movements behind the car were off. She took a thing from her waist, crossed her hands, and threw it directly from behind the car.
"Fxxk!" Jimmy raised his handgun and fired several shots at the flying grenade, directly knocking it out in the air, bursting beside.
Luckily, from the sound, it was an offensive grenade with fewer fragments. If it was a bulky defensive grenade, the nearby shop and pedestrians not evading well would surely suffer.
A lunatic! Jimmy put the emptied Glock back in the holster and pulled out the revolver, the instinctive sight returned to Perkins' position; she rose again, the rifle suppressed Jimmy's position, making it impossible for him to reach out and shoot.
After firing a few more shots, Perkins released the rifle, letting it fall to the ground, crawling into the car, taking out something resembling a drawing tube.
Jimmy fired a shot at Perkins' position, immediately bending to switch places.
Perkins' actions alerted Jimmy to something unusual. She extended the drawing tube she took out, placing it on her shoulder while in the car, then hid behind the car after exiting, making launch preparations.
This action, although Jimmy hadn't seen it in reality, appeared frequently in movies; it's the rocket launcher action, extending the launcher, aiming from the shoulder, left hand holding the grip fixed, right hand pressing the launch button, seen too often in films.
Jimmy switched to the rear of another car, half crouched, raising the revolver to aim at Perkins' position. He was a bit anxious about the rocket's destructive power, never learned it; to ensure safety, he must take her out instantly to prevent launch.
Preparing behind the car, Perkins raised the rocket launcher's central sight post, promptly stood up, aiming at the position where Jimmy stayed earlier.
"Bang bang," Jimmy kept an eye on Perkins behind the car; as she moved, he immediately fired two rapid shots. Perkins didn't expect Jimmy would be so accurate, so quick; as she aimed at the car where Jimmy once sheltered, her head got hit.
However, Jimmy still made a mistake; it was his first counter with a rocket launcher, unaware of the launch process. Expecting Perkins' death to prevent firing, leaving it for the bomb squad to recover when fallen.
But Perkins had already decided to blast Jimmy's cover earlier, so when aiming, her right hand was already pressing the launch button on the rocket launcher.
Though her head was hit and falling backward, the prior nerve command had been sent, the right hand pressing launched the rocket successfully from the launcher, but due to Perkins' back fall, the angle was affected, switching the target from Jimmy's car to another roadside vehicle.
"Boom," the roadside car was directly hit by the rocket, a small cloud of smoke rose, the car pierced through, and a crater appeared beside.
Debris shot out in all directions, startling people hiding by the shop with cries. Apart from the rocket's detonation frightening them, some debris probably hit them.
Jimmy looked around; this part of the road had completely ceased any activity, nor were people gathering tightly. Confident there were no armed individuals around, Jimmy got up, raising his FBI badge, and shouting: "FBI! Everyone relax, don't move."
Shouted twice before pulling out his phone, dialing 911 for emergency, then calling Mahong to arrange people quickly.
The commotion was too big; gunfights weren't a rare occurrence for New York, happening several times a month, but using grenades and rocket launchers were rare, not seen once annually; too challenging to nerves.
"Everyone stay still, is anyone hurt?" Jimmy hung up the phone, raising the FBI badge, shouting, simultaneously observing surroundings, keeping alert while checking for any injuries.
(Requested leave yesterday, releasing ahead today, everyone take a look.)
