The subsequent investigation of this case was extremely cumbersome. Given that it involved thoroughly investigating a large mansion, a significant number of personnel were required. Besides the agents from the DHS headquarters in DC, additional manpower was drawn from various departments in New York State. For the next few days, the whole mansion was bustling with activity, and one exciting lead after another began to emerge gradually.

Under Jimmy's persistent and deliberate guidance, Bill finally discovered the tunnel in the warehouse. This marked the third day since they had raided the mansion.

On the second day, Bill and his team collaborated to search all the buildings. However, they missed the tunnel in the warehouse initially because it was beneath the fodder. Without a careful inspection, there was no way to know there was a tunnel there. They went in and out of the warehouse several times, yet Bill and his team failed to notice it.

Jimmy was getting impatient and on the third day, he directly coordinated with some people to move everything around in the warehouse. Only the fodder pile was left, and after shifting just a few bales, they found an empty shell of a bale with a steel frame inside. Upon moving it, they noticed something different, extracted two steel frames from it, and the tunnel entrance was exposed.

Sigh, for the sake of this tunnel, there were performances to put on, warehouses to move, and credit to be handed over to the DHS. It was truly arduous work.

Bill gave Jimmy a look of mixed emotions, but said nothing, instead motioned for Jimmy to accompany him into the tunnel. They crawled along until, after two turns, they emerged in a grove near the highway.

Bill dusted off the dirt on his clothes and suddenly asked, "How did you know?"

Jimmy replied, "I guessed. It's impossible for a stronghold like this not to have a tunnel. We inspected everywhere else, and the warehouse was the only place left unchecked due to too much stuff."

Bill dusted himself off, stood up, glanced around, and started walking toward the highway. "I will write a report for you."

Jimmy: "Thank you."

Bill took out his phone, checked the current coordinates, and called his colleagues, asking them to come over based on the coordinates to pick up two people, and to bring along a temporary monitoring unit.

Bill watched the vehicles on the road and said in a low voice, "There were some issues with the intelligence this time, but no one will be investigating that. So, this case is now concluded."

Jimmy: "What about afterward? Have the identities of the captured people been confirmed?"

Bill: "That's for others to handle. Our case is closed. I know you might not understand..."

Jimmy: "No, I understand. Bill, there's no need to explain. We all have those moments, especially in our line of work."

Bill turned his head to look at Jimmy, nodded, and gazed back at the traffic again. "If you get time to come to DC, remember to call me."

Jimmy: "Sure."

The agents at the mansion quickly arrived there. Bill took the monitoring unit team to check out the tunnel. It was evident that this escape passage was prepared by the people at the mansion. The temporary monitoring unit needed to install a wireless camera nearby and subsequently conduct an investigation to check for suspicious areas in the surroundings.

The discovery of the new escape route further proved the problematic nature of this mansion. Why would wealthy individuals normally prepare such a passage? Moreover, digging out such a long tunnel isn't a feat that can be accomplished overnight, and a considerable amount of manpower must have been involved as well.

Bill was more proactive than before. After returning to the mansion, he immediately arranged for everyone free to re-investigate all the buildings and conduct a more detailed examination of the items found in the rooms, including fingerprint information.

Like the ones caught before, the people captured in the mansion had no records in the official database; others only knew their names, which were, of course, fake.

The clues Bill needed now were to find fingerprint information or photos from something on-site that could be related to individuals with no identities who were killed in New York.

The servers and laptops had already been handed over to the tech department for processing, hoping to get some data soon.

Throughout the investigation process, Jimmy hardly intervened again. Besides the police who were stationed around the site, he was the only outsider present now.

The FBI, as an institution, falls under the Judicial Department, and the DHS doesn't have a direct departmental relationship with the FBI. However, after 9/11, in cases related to terrorist attacks, the DHS naturally holds priority.

Since the case was taken over by the DHS, Jimmy's role in the investigation team was essentially as a liaison between the FBI and DHS. If he interfered with field investigation matters, it wouldn't be a good thing. Although it wouldn't be overstepping his authority, it might still easily draw criticism from Bill and his team. Of course, Bill's attitude towards Jimmy had vastly improved now.

When Bill had spoken to Jimmy earlier, he noted that the case was concluded, so it was about time to let Kevin and Nia return. Jimmy pulled out his phone, thought for a moment, and decided to inform Nia and the team of the current situation for now. As for returning, he decided to wait a few more days since he hadn't returned to New York yet.

Kevin took the phone from Nia's hand. Besides asking about the progress, he specifically inquired about Montello, the head of the Poison Snake Gang.

Jimmy was a bit surprised. "Why? Has Montello contacted you?"

Kevin: "Yeah, he called me a few nights ago, but I just said I was traveling, and then hung up. What's happened?"

Jimmy: "The Poison Snake Gang is history now; they got taken down by the bureau. A few days ago, Montello returned to his villa to retrieve some things, then headed to Atlantic City, presumably planning to flee, but we caught him during that attempt."
