CHAPTER 39: BREAKFAST AND FAMILY DRAMA

Yohan waltzed into the dining room for breakfast, everyone else was already seated.

"Good morning," he greeted before grabbing an apple from the table.

"Morning Yohan, how was your night?" His aunt asked.

"It was very fine, thank you for asking,"

"Hey honey look what is at the front page of the newspaper today," His uncle said excitedly.

Vivian took a glance, "it’s Riverway again, this is the third time this week,"

"See I told you, they are legit," his uncle Chuckled proudly.

Yohan scoffed,

"Yeah, that’s what everyone was saying until the company stocks crashed," Yohan took a bite from his apple before realizing what he had just said out loud.

"I mean... that is probably what is going to happen," he quickly said

’I almost forgot that I’ve been taken to the past’

"Why would that happen?" Cassie asked curiously, she wasn’t the kind of person to care about things like this but hearing Yohan speak like that must have caught her attention.

"Well for one..." Yohan tried remembering one of the many things that ruin the life of many poor investors.

"No one knows what exactly they do, they just keep on saying the company is making profits,"

"What do you mean, they are a registered trading company his uncle said, clearly irritated by Yohan’s words

"Why would the government promote them if they weren’t?" He added

"Maybe because they are in on it too?"

His uncle laughed, "what do you mean, are yous saying the government is trying to scam us?"

"I didn’t say it was a scam, the countries economy is failing and the government is looking for every means to save it. This is just one of those means,"

"I’m sure they believe Riverway might grow to be a giant company but that’s not going to happen, the company would lose all its profit and go bankrupt in one night,"

Now his uncle wasn’t only irritated, he was also confused, "So what are you saying? That the government doesn’t know what they are doing?"

"They do actually, they know that there is great risk and that is why they are trying to get people to invest instead of just using their own money, hence all the promotions,"

’Plus they would deny any involvement with Riverway after the whole thing goes down’ Yohan didn’t say that part out loud.

"I’m sure if you do a bit of research you’ll see everything I’m saying,"

Cassie spoke after considering it for a moment, "you know it’s a bit weird that they have become so popular in such a short period of time,"

"See companies like these are just a money grabbing scheme, they swoop in make promises and vanish without a trace. The people behind it get to walk away with everything, while everyone else loses their money,"

Vivian gasped, "isn’t something like that illegal?"

"Yeah I suppose, but the government won’t investigate it because of their involvement,"

"The wealthy elites of society already know much, so they wouldn’t even invest in this kind of company so it would end up being all the unfortunate poor investors that would suffer the consequences,"

"And how do you know all this?" His uncle asked with one brow raised.

Yohan almost choked before answering, "I’ve been studying these days so I learnt a few things,"

"So after reading a few books you are suddenly an expert in investment and economics?" His uncle asked with a mocking tone,

"I’m not an expert, I just think Riverway is going to be a bust,"

"Well you’re wrong," his uncle said confidently.

"I’m part of an investment forum online and they say Riverway is definitely going to be profitable,"

"Well you and your forum are going to regret it,"

Vivian said worriedly, "Honey maybe we shouldn’t invest too much money, with everything Yohan just said it doesn’t seem like a good idea,"

"Don’t be scared because of all the nonsense Yohan is saying, we already agreed on this. I don’t have much money saved up so we’ll add the money you have kept aside for Cassie’s college tuition. I’m telling you this is the big break that we have been praying for,"

Vivian still had doubts but she didn’t protest any further, quietly staring at her empty plate.

Yohan couldn’t just ignore this, "I know it’s not my business but you really shouldn’t risk that money on this,"

In this past, this mistake left his uncle broke for a very long period of time, but it wasn’t just him. It also deeply affected Vivian and Cassie, since most of the money she had saved up was also flushed down the drain.

"You shouldn’t take needless risks," he added.

His uncle shook his head slowly, as if disappointed by Yohan, "you are still a kid so I don’t expect you to understand the risk a man has to take to provide for his family,"

"I may not understand, but I do know that there’s something called risk management... just imagine for a moment that what I’m saying actually happens, then what?"

"Then it’s none of your business, I will definitely find other ways to provide for my family... You should be worrying about yourself and stay out of things that don’t concern,"

"Okay," he sighed, "I’m sorry if I overstepped," he apologized, in truth he didn’t really care about whatever happens to his uncle, it was just too bad that Vivian and Cassie would also share the consequences.

But it seems his words were enough to convince his Aunt, "honey, I’m sorry but I can’t give you all that money,"

"What do you mean by that?"

"I’ll give you half, I think it’s best we don’t do something as dangerous as this,"

"I already told you, it’s a sure bet. We need to use as much money as we can so that we can make a lot of money. If we do this we would never have to worry about money again, why can’t you understand me?!" he shouted, standing to his feet angrily.

"If that’s true, then half should still be enough, I’m not risking Cassie’s future on something like this," she said firmly.

Yohan was a little bit surprised m, this was the first time he had seen his Auntie put her foot down so seriously.

His uncle wasn’t one bit happy about this, he gritted his teeth but there was nothing he could do about it, "Fine, I’ll just look for another way to get the money,"
