Chapter 46: The Loan Shark
CHAPTER 46: THE LOAN SHARK
After a while his Aunt and Cassie got tired and retreated inside their rooms but Yohan still remained.
"Uncle, you have to take out your money now!" He demanded.
"And why will I listen to you?" His Uncle scoffed, "you know something, you always like crossing your boundaries in this house. Do you think just because you are my brother’s child that you have a say in my family?"
"Just because I let you stay in this house, doesn’t give you the right to question my leadership... in fact I’m starting to think maybe it’s high time you start looking for your own place,"
"But Uncle, everything I’ve tried to do up until now has been for your own good... I’m just trying to help,"
His uncle laughed loudly, "Did I ever ask you for your help? Wait..."
His brows furrowed, "I hope you aren’t doing this because you are expecting a piece of my money?"
"Your parents hardly left anything behind and now you want a share of my hard earned money? I’m sorry to disappoint you but that isn’t going to happen, as a matter of fact I expect you to move out in one month,"
Yohan’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"I’m only giving you a month because you are my nephew... if only my brother had at least taken out life insurance, his death would have left you with some money and you wouldn’t be here aiming for mine. I have helped you the best I can, I can’t let you stay around and continue being a burden,"
Yohan’s face was void of any emotion after listening to his uncle’s senseless words. He came to one final conclusion,
’This bastard deserves everything that is coming to him!’
’He is only saying all these things now because he is thinking that he is about to become rich so he wouldn’t have to keep me around anymore’
Thinking back, his uncle kicked him out of the house once he was able to sell off the massage parlor.
Yohan wasn’t even that angry at the man, he just pitied him.
’I guess we would both be getting kicked out’ he chuckled.
That morning he went to see the loan shark
"Mr. Yohan welcome, have a seat," The scary looking gangster spoke in a respectable and friendly manner,
"Would you like to drink anything, coffee, soda or water maybe?"
With the suit he was wearing one might actually think he was an upstanding business man.
"Do you treat all your clients like this?"
"Only the ones with a good credit score, debtors usually get to see a whole different side of me," he chuckled, "so what brings you here today?"
"What do you think?" Yohan asked sarcastically, "I’m here to borrow some money,"
"Adding to the one you already owe me for your friend?"
"Yeah, and you said I have a good credit score so it really shouldn’t be an issue right?"
"Yes of course, I’m always happy to lend out money to people in need," Gunjoo said with a grin, "How much do you want?"
"How much can you give me?" Yohan took out a file from a small bag he carried and handed it to the man.
The man opened it and quickly scanned through the content.
"This is the title deed for my shop, I’d like to use it as collateral," An idea that he had gotten from his uncle’s stupid decision.
The man continued to read the document.
"I know this location, and the shops in this area are pretty big. How did you get your hands on something like this?"
"How is it any of your business?" Yohan shot back.
"For my security of course, it is not everyday I get to see a young man like yourself with something like this. For all I know you might have stolen it,"
Yohan sighed, "it used to belong to my parents but now they are gone... what I want to know is if you can give me $300,000?"
"300k?!" The boss was so shocked, that it almost sounded like he was worried for Yohan, "That’s a lot of money, and with 50 percent interest every month, you are talking about almost $500,000 in repayment and that is if you manage to do it at the end of the first month,"
"I’ll pay it before the first month runs out," Yohan said confidently.
"And how do you plan to do that by trading in stocks? Do you even know how risky that is?" This time there was actual concern written on his face.
Yohan didn’t call out the unsolicited advice because he was more surprised to hear him say that,
"How did you know?"
Gunjoo sighed, "your uncle was also here yesterday, and told me almost exactly the same thing,"
"So you were the one that gave him the loan?" Yohan realized.
"Why not, I was just doing my job," he leaned back on his chair, "It doesn’t really matter to me what you plan to do with the money to be honest, you can take it all and throw it in the trash, I won’t give a damn. All that matters is that you pay me when the time comes, and for your sake mr. Yohan I hope you do,"
After a while he took out a contract and handed it to Yohan to sign.
"I’ll wire the money straight to your account,"
Yohan hadn’t even left the building before he received the alert, and just like that he had $300,000 sitting in his account.
That was the only benefit of dealing with someone like Gunjoo, how speedy the process was. If it was other legal establishments it would have taken more than just a few signatures to get this amount of money, and it certainly wouldn’t have come in the same day.
Yohan wasted no time investing the money. The Riverway stock was at an all time high at the moment so betting against it meant he stood to gain millions.
There was a moment right before he made the decision, that doubt began to creep into his mind. He hesitated thinking what if the future changes again, and things don’t go his way, that would mean he was dumping so much money into the drain.
But then he steeled his resolve, he knew inside every opportunity there was always a risk.
"By tomorrow or next everything would turn around," he reassured himself.
