Chapter 65: _No More Distractions Tonight
CHAPTER 65: _NO MORE DISTRACTIONS TONIGHT
Kyren’s POV
*****
"You didn’t need to go too hard, Farrell." He sniggered, his grip on the golden goblet in his hand tightening.
He stood on the balcony in his room, staring at his commander who came to give him a report of his most recent mission:
Infiltrating the Lunarian royal palace and spying on Elian’s mates.
Kyren preferred thinking of them as disposable toys to please his mate before he came to claim him.
"Why do you say that, my Lord?" Farrell questioned with furrowed eyebrows. "I was able to place the charms within the rooms of both mates. I would’ve done the same in your mate’s room but the teleportation talisman you gave me wore off."
Kyren’s smirk widened as he stretched out his free hand. A glowing red orb appeared on it, floating right above it and glistening around the edges.
"I know all this. And the charms worked as expected." Kyren revealed. "I was able to get a clear view of everything within the palace through the charms and could interact using my magic to some level."
His mind wandered briefly to how he was able to use his telekinesis from all the way here to make a glass on the dinner table shatter on the ground.
Ah, the look on their faces was priceless.
"What I meant when I said you went too hard... Was you going to Elian’s room." Kyren’s voice dropped to a cold tone as the orb on his palm finally showed an image that was blurry at first.
But then it became clearer and showed the Beta of Lunaria and the Alpha Prince in a room discussing something heated.
"So there’s an intruder prowling around the palace, looking through our mate’s room. While he’s in heat?" Beta Axel asked Lucian with rage eating at his voice.
Kyren arched an eyebrow at Farrell who gulped, seeming like he had seen a ghost.
"The Alpha Prince and even my mate noticed your scent lingering in his room." Kyren dispersed the red orb with a flick of his wrist, locking his gaze on his commander. "What were you doing there anyway?"
Farrell’s lips parted repeatedly but the words seemed to die in his throat.
Kyren grew impatient, the shadows on the balcony growing larger and twisting unnaturally. "If you don’t talk within the next three seconds, I—"
"I was only curious to find out more about my lord’s mate." Farrell bowed his head apologetically, raising his hands in a plea. "I was enraged on your behalf. Both mates have had sex with him already while—"
"And that concerns you how?" Kyren asked, his voice dropping colder. He raised his free hand, his fingers lighting up with his magic as he considered teaching the lad a lesson.
But then... He let out a breath, dropping his hand.
Instead, he raised his chin, unlocking a spell that forced Farrell’s body under his control. He made him raise his head and look him dead in the eyes.
"He’s MY mate. Not yours. I didn’t ask you to be jealous on my behalf." Kyren muttered coldly, his tone a warning. "Never do anything outside what you’re told. Clear?"
Farrell nodded quickly, his face reddening. But it wasn’t because of embarrassment.
He was losing air from Kyren’s telekinetic hold on him.
Eventually, the rogue king let go of him, taking a sip from his goblet.
"Fortunately, with those charms within the palace now, I have the power to use my magic to influence things there," Kyren remarked casually, his gaze trailing up to the red sky above.
The clouds parted slightly, giving way for the moon to shine its majestic silver light on the dark lands, giving miles of red sand a little subtle glow.
"Beta Axel and the prince are already at their wits’ end because of your scent lingering in Elian’s room," Kyren noted the obvious, his expression stoic. "All I’ll have to do now is give your scent a little... Nudge."
His eyes flared with a bright red light as he spoke, his mind taking him to the walls of the palace. A simple spell was all it took to get a hold of Farrell’s scent and disperse it, making it lead to the royal princess’s room door.
"Let’s see them track that..." He whispered to himself, ignoring Farrell’s confused gaze.
.
.
He was back in his dimly lit throne room after some minutes had passed, looking through some reports written on paper.
Reports from the borders close to Arcadia.
After he sent back those witches from the High Matron, he expected immediate pushback of some kind. It happened hours ago... But still.
But these reports written minutes ago by his dukes close to the borders all showed the same thing:
The witches had withdrawn their troops.
"This is a good thing, right my lord?" Farrell said below the dias, looking through a copy of the reports as well. "Maybe the High Matron and her high coven are finally seeing you aren’t to be messed with."
Cute... But Kyren wasn’t dumb.
"Arcadia is unrelenting and proud, Farrell. You should know this as well as anyone." Kyren said with a distant voice, his mind reeling through possibilities.
Were they regrouping? Were they planning something big that would take him off guard?
"Until they see it’s not worth their time or efforts, they’ll keep coming for the Dark Lands." Kyren continued, resting on his throne and making the reports disappear with a wave of his palm. "It’s just a matter of when..."
He watched Farrell nod, the atmosphere becoming solemn.
Just when Kyren was about to discuss something else, he felt a pull at his mind. No... His soul.
His eyebrows furrowed as the sound of a heartbeat, steady and rhythmic at first, began drumming at a faster pace in his mind.
But it wasn’t his.
It was... Elian’s.
His eyes flared with a red light, his mind slipping into Lunaria and then into the palace.
Past the golden walls and bustling palace halls, until...
There he was.
His mate.
Writhing in heat, his pheromones clouding the air. The Beta’s hands reaching too close.
Disgusting.
Kyren’s magic crackled through the bond, invisible but swift. And with a flick of his fingers, he whispered a silent spell — targeting Elian’s nervous system like a lullaby wrapped in a vice.
’Sleep, my little flame.’
He felt the moment Elian’s body gave in, the heartbeat fluttering, legs buckling, breath caught on a gasp.
The connection severed.
And Kyren exhaled slowly, the red glow fading from his eyes.
"No more distractions tonight," he muttered into the darkness, swirling the wine in his goblet. "They’ll learn to keep their hands off what’s mine."
