One Piece: Investing In Whitebeard At The Start.
Chapter 171 171: 171: Chaos On Mariejois.
It was around three o'clock in the morning.
Ordinarily, the journey from Wano to the Red Line would take several days by ship. But Kaido wasn't using a ship. In his azure dragon form, he soared straight through the skies, clouds parting as he rushed toward the summit of the Red Earth Continent.
Flying in a straight line with monstrous speed, the trip took only seven to eight hours.
The summit stood tall, veiled in white mist, and at its peak was the infamous holy land—Mariejois.
A place that should've been a paradise, but was in truth a rotting sanctum for the worst of the world: the Celestial Dragons.
Nineteen families, locked away in arrogance and depravity, had lived here in sheltered decadence for over 800 years.
At this moment, Mariejois was calm. The silent streets of Pangaea Castle were guarded by elite soldiers loyal only to the Celestial Dragons. Not all of the dragons were asleep though. These nobles didn't live by any normal schedule—there was always a slave to torture, always a new twisted indulgence to enjoy.
Above the clouds, two ominous figures hovered in the night sky—Kaido of the Beasts, and beside him, the man known as Rhett Vane.
Mariejois looked tiny from their height, no larger than a collection of toys spread across a white sheet.
"Damn, this is thrilling," Vane grinned, floating mid-air above Kaido's massive dragon form. "First time up here, and I already want to burn the place down."
Kaido let out a low snort. "I've always hated these bastards."
He turned one crimson eye toward Vane. "I'm jumping. Don't die on me."
Vane chuckled. "I don't die that easily."
He hovered off Kaido's scaled head and glanced downward.
"If they pull out any ancient weapons, we retreat immediately," Vane reminded him.
"The King of Heaven… yeah, they've got it, but they don't even understand what it truly is," Kaido rumbled. "They've hoarded weapons for centuries, but without knowing how to wield them. We'll be careful."
Vane grinned wickedly. "They'll never forget tonight."
Kaido transformed back into his human form mid-air, a towering mass of muscle and rage. Then he dropped like a meteor, howling with exhilaration.
"I am Kaido of the Beasts!!"
The air roared as he fell, a thunderous wind ripping around him.
Vane dove after him, slicing through the sky like a missile.
"Kaido's going in. Almost there," Vane muttered, pointing at their target below.
The open-air colosseum in Pangaea was still active. A death match was underway. Five Celestial Dragons lounged in their royal booths, cheering wildly.
Blood soaked the sand below. Of ten slaves thrown into combat, only two remained, barely able to stand. One of them belonged to a fat Celestial Dragon who was screaming from his perch.
"Kill him! Finish him!"
His slave, a blood-covered brute, lunged and drove a blade through his opponent's heart—his own brother.
The fat celestial exploded with laughter. "Hahaha! Trash! This saint wins!"
The other Celestial Dragons groaned. Their bets—two billion Berries—were lost. The death of their slaves enraged them even more than the financial blow.
High above, Vane scoffed.
"Still playing games with lives at this hour? Disgusting."
The distance closed fast. They were only a hundred meters from the ground.
A slave's scream was drowned by the sonic boom that followed.
Kaido slammed into the arena like a divine hammer. The entire colosseum cracked and exploded under the pressure. Stone and steel turned to dust. The impact sent the five Celestial Dragons flying—straight into falling debris.
Their bodies were mangled under the wreckage, lower halves crushed beyond recognition.
The slave who had survived the fight stood frozen, shocked that he hadn't been vaporized. The dust began to clear, scattered by a violent burst of Conqueror's Haki.
Hovering above the ruined arena, Vane appeared, radiating a terrifying aura.
"I'm still here, Kaido," he called out coolly.
Kaido dragged himself out of a crater, bruised but grinning.
"Damn, that hurt! You alive or what?"
Vane looked down at the carnage. "Let's tear this place apart."
Kaido's laughter boomed across the destroyed battlefield.
Soldiers around the perimeter finally responded to the blast. They approached, weapons drawn, but their courage faltered at the sight of the two monsters standing above the wreckage.
Just then, Vane spotted the surviving slave.
"You want to escape Mariejois?"
The man looked up in fear. It took him ten full seconds to respond. "Y-yes!"
"Then go. Free the others. Find the keys. Break the collars. Get out of here."
The slave stared, stunned. Vane hovered in golden armor, light gleaming off his inhumanly handsome face. To a broken soul, he looked like salvation itself.
"A-are you a god?"
Kaido glared. "You wanna die?! Shut up and move!"
Vane didn't answer the question.
"Free them all. You've got two hours."
"T-thank you, Lord God!"
The man ran off, heading toward the dungeons.
Kaido rolled his eyes. "I really wanted to punch that guy."
"Letting him live is more fun," Vane smirked.
And so, chaos began to unfold atop the world.
