CHAPTER 76: CHAPTER 76: DAMN IT, THIS IS MY BRAND-NEW SHIP!
Meanwhile.
Will, Nami, and Carina were aboard their ship, steadily approaching the entrance to the Grand Line at Reverse Mountain.
Inside the spacious cabin, the three stood around a table, their eyes fixed on a nautical chart spread out before them.
As the navigator, Nami pointed at a specific spot on the chart with a serious expression and said to the others, "If we keep heading in this direction, we should, as the rumors say, reach the place indicated by the Guiding Light."
"That’s the entrance to the Grand Line, marked right here on the chart, at the top of Reverse Mountain on the Red Line."
Carina crossed her arms, her tone tinged with doubt. "I don’t quite get it. How exactly are we supposed to get up a mountain?"
After all, they were on a ship. Could a ship actually climb a mountain?
Nami frowned, her face showing a hint of contemplation. "Honestly, I haven’t entirely figured it out either..."
"This chart shows five canals, all converging at the peak of Reverse Mountain..."
Will, noticing the puzzled looks on both their faces, spoke up directly. "I think it’s the ocean currents."
Nami’s eyes lit up as the realization hit her, and she quickly chimed in, "Exactly! If the massive currents from the four seas all flow toward Reverse Mountain, they’ll naturally carry us up the canals to the summit."
"Then, at the top, the four canals meet and merge into the single current that flows into the Grand Line."
"So, all we need to do is guide the ship into the canal, secure the rudder, and control the direction."
"Even without wind, the ship will keep moving upward on its own."
At this point, Nami recalled some of her navigational knowledge and added earnestly, "One more thing—Reverse Mountain is a winter island. The currents hitting the mountain cool rapidly and sink, diving from the surface to the deep sea."
"If we’re not careful and fail to enter the canal properly, this ship will crash straight into the mountain and be completely destroyed."
"We’d likely not even have a chance to swim away."
"The raging currents would drag us into the deep sea, turning us into nothing but wreckage and debris."
"Got it," Carina said with a slight nod, her expression growing more serious.
After hearing this, Will couldn’t help but point at Nami and turn to Carina with a grin. "See? That’s what you call a professional."
"Ehehe!" Carina laughed in agreement. "Of course! I’ve said it before—Nami’s the most experienced navigator I’ve ever met."
Nami’s lips curled into a small, proud smile, though she didn’t bother with false modesty.
She cleared her throat with a light cough, then continued with a smile, "One more thing: when we approach the canal entrance, we need to be careful not to drift into the nearby Calm Belt."
"That area’s windless year-round and incredibly vast. Crossing it by rowing is nearly impossible."
"Plus, the Calm Belt is a breeding ground for massive Sea Kings, so it’s extremely dangerous."
Carina nodded again, taking it all in.
Perhaps because of Will’s earlier comment, the atmosphere in the cabin had lightened considerably, and she didn’t feel overly tense anymore.
Seeing that Nami had finished, Will spoke up with a serious tone. "Alright, let’s get ready and head straight for the canal entrance!"
"Aye!" Nami and Carina nodded in unison.
Moments later, their ship finally reached the vicinity of the Red Line.
What greeted their eyes was an impossibly massive red mountain, so vast it seemed to stretch endlessly beyond their sight.
"This... this is just too huge," Carina muttered, her eyes wide with astonishment.
She craned her neck to look up the sheer, vertical cliffs, but all she could see were thick layers of clouds—no sign of the summit.
No one could tell just how high this red mountain truly was.
Nami, equally awestruck, quickly snapped back to focus, diligently searching for the canal entrance.
Will, after his initial shock, couldn’t help but wonder how much damage his full-powered strike could inflict on this red mountain.
But since he was currently at the helm—taking over because he’d worried Nami might not have the strength to handle the turbulent canal—he pushed the thought aside. There’d be plenty of time for that later.
A few minutes passed.
Nami and Carina, both peering through telescopes, suddenly exclaimed almost in unison, "Will! Look over there! The canal entrance!"
"Don’t worry, I see it," Will replied calmly, steering the ship as his sharp eyes caught the extraordinary sight ahead.
In the distance, within a narrow crevice in the cliff, the sea was indeed climbing the mountain.
The water surged upward through the wide gap, defying the basic principle that water flows downward.
As the current entered the crevice, its speed increased dramatically.
At the canal’s entrance, there were several arch-like structures, seemingly man-made, reinforcing the mountain walls on either side.
Whatever material they were made of, these arches remained sharp-edged despite the constant battering of the currents.
The strange fish totems carved into them were still vividly clear.
But the three aboard the ship, now racing into the canal, had no time to study these details.
As the ship fully entered the canal, the entire vessel began to shake violently, the current beneath it surging faster and faster.
The roar of wind and water intertwined, a deafening cacophony surrounding the ship.
In just over ten seconds, the ship shot up to the peak of Reverse Mountain, arriving at the convergence of the four canals.
But at that very moment, another ship suddenly burst up from a canal, likely coming from the North Blue.
A pirate flag fluttered wildly in the wind, and the crew aboard waved their weapons with frenzied excitement.
As the pirate ship dropped down, a rugged man with a full beard spotted Will’s ship and roared with a ferocious grin, "Another ship here?! Fire the cannons and sink them!"
"Aye!" the other pirates shouted in response, scrambling to adjust the cannons’ aim.
Will, whose hearing far surpassed that of an ordinary person, caught every word. His face darkened as he growled, "Damn it, this is my brand-new ship!"
Without a moment’s hesitation, he leapt high into the air.
Tempest Kick: Giant Wave!
From midair, Will swung his leg with unrelenting force, unleashing over a dozen pale blue slashing waves that surged forward like a tidal wave.
Under the terrified gazes of the pirates, the slashes slammed into the side of their ship with devastating speed.
BOOM!
With a thunderous crash, the ship’s side shattered and collapsed inward.
The immense force sent the vessel careening sideways, crashing directly into the nearby rock wall.
The bearded captain of the unknown pirate crew, still dazed, muttered in the final moment before disaster, "What the hell just happened?!"
The next second, the raging current swallowed both ship and crew, dragging them into the depths, gone without a trace in the blink of an eye.
