Chapter 78: Princess Vivi’s Dark Past! Log Pose and Eternal Pose!
CHAPTER 78: CHAPTER 78: PRINCESS VIVI’S DARK PAST! LOG POSE AND ETERNAL POSE!
"Laboon?"
Upon hearing this, Kalina’s attention snapped to the point: "You mean that giant whale?"
"Mm." Crocus gave a slight nod, offering no further explanation.
Nami and Kalina exchanged a glance, clearly surprised that the massive whale even had a name.
Meanwhile, Will paid no mind to their exchange.
His gaze fell on the two figures sprawled on the ground, one with their hips in the air, eyes rolled back, and foam spilling from their mouths—clearly still unconscious. He couldn’t help but muse to himself:
"This must be one of the few dark Chapters in Princess Vivi’s history, huh."
When Will had first spotted the two floating in the sea, he’d immediately noticed one of them had light blue hair.
Curious, he’d gone to check, only to confirm it was indeed Vivi. So, he brought them back with him.
As for the other guy...
Will recalled he was likely a member of Baroque Works, Vivi’s partner during her time as a villain in this period.
Later, when Vivi’s undercover identity was exposed, this guy seemed to have chosen to protect her as a comrade, showing some real backbone.
The two had probably come here to make another move against Crocus, only to have the misfortune of being knocked out cold by Will’s Haki along with Vivi.
"Hey! What’s going on?!"
Nami suddenly let out a startled cry.
She’d just noticed that the compass in her hand was completely haywire, no longer functioning properly.
The others immediately turned their attention to her.
Crocus, noticing Nami staring at the compass with a puzzled expression, casually remarked:
"Looks like you three still don’t know the quirks of the Grand Line."
As their eyes turned to him, he kindly explained:
"On the Grand Line, the common sense you’re used to no longer applies."
"For instance, the compass you use to navigate routes—it becomes useless here."
Hearing this, Nami’s mind raced, and she ventured a guess:
"Could it have something to do with magnetic fields?"
Crocus raised an eyebrow, nodding in approval:
"Exactly. Every island on the Grand Line is rich in minerals, causing the magnetic fields across the entire route to become highly irregular."
"As a result, regular compasses can’t be used for navigation."
"And it’s not just that—the ocean currents and winds here don’t follow normal patterns either."
He turned to Nami: "If you’re a navigator, you should understand the dangers lurking in that."
"Absolutely," Nami replied, her expression growing serious:
"If we can’t determine our course, it’s easy to veer off the intended route or even stumble into unknown dangers."
"And if the waves and winds of the Grand Line really don’t follow normal patterns..."
"Then the weather, wind direction, and the speed and flow of the currents will all become unpredictable."
"That’ll make our future voyages far riskier and more uncertain."
"Exactly," Crocus nodded slightly, continuing to enlighten them:
"That’s why, to navigate the Grand Line properly, you absolutely need a Log Pose."
"Log Pose?" Nami frowned slightly.
The term sounded similar to the compass she was holding.
Crocus patiently explained: "A Log Pose is a special kind of compass that can ’record’ magnetic fields."
"But these things are mostly only available on the Grand Line. They’re hard to come by in the Four Seas."
"You’re saying we can’t sail properly without a Log Pose?!"
Kalina summed it up, her brow furrowing:
"Then what do we do? We don’t have one. Are we just stuck here at the entrance?"
Crocus hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to give the trio the Log Pose he had on hand.
"Consider it thanks for helping calm Laboon down."
Compared to forcibly injecting a sedative with a syringe, knocking it out with Haki was much safer and faster.
But before Crocus could speak, Will had already thought of a solution and chimed in: "No need to worry. Don’t forget about these two on the ground."
"They’ve come here multiple times to cause trouble, so they must be carrying a Log Pose."
"Otherwise, how would they get back after each trip?"
"Right!" Kalina and Nami’s eyes lit up.
Crocus, hearing this, was momentarily stunned but didn’t say anything further.
He knew Will was right—those two almost certainly had a Log Pose on them.
So, Kalina immediately walked over to the blue-haired woman: "Let me take a look."
As a former professional thief, Kalina deftly searched Vivi’s body and quickly pulled out several items.
Among them was a small, round glass case containing a special needle, attached to a wrist strap.
It looked like something that could be worn on the wrist.
There was also an item resembling an hourglass.
But instead of sand, it had a large, round glass case with another special needle sealed inside.
Kalina felt that both items seemed like they could be the so-called Log Pose.
Holding one in each hand, she turned to Crocus and asked:
"Which of these is the Log Pose? Or are both of them?"
Crocus glanced over, ready to confirm that both were Log Poses.
But when his eyes landed on the hourglass-like item, a trace of surprise crossed his face:
"The one in your right hand... that seems to be an Eternal Pose."
"Eternal Pose?" Kalina and Nami exchanged puzzled looks.
Will, meanwhile, glanced down at Vivi, still unconscious on the ground, and already had a guess about where this Eternal Pose pointed.
A new idea began forming in his mind.
Crocus explained: "It’s similar to a Log Pose in function."
"But an Eternal Pose can only record the magnetic field of a single island, and once it’s set, it stays locked on that island forever."
"No matter where you go, an Eternal Pose will always point to that recorded island without ever changing."
"So, in simple terms, an Eternal Pose is like a permanent version of a Log Pose, each with its own uses."
"I see," Nami nodded thoughtfully.
Kalina looked at the wrist-strapped needle in her left hand and confirmed:
"So this one’s the Log Pose, right?"
"Correct," Crocus nodded in affirmation.
With that confirmed, Kalina handed the Log Pose to Nami: "Here, you take care of this, little thief cat~."
Nami took it without responding to the teasing, slipping it onto her wrist and studying it curiously.
