Chapter 35: “Black Myth: Wukong” Goes Viral—I Want to Be the Chosen One Too!
2019 Timeline.
Tencent Headquarters.
After witnessing the revelation on the massive sky screen, Pony Ma (Ma Huateng) asked with curiosity:
“The first AAA game from Dragon Nation?”
“I never expected any company in Dragon Nation to actually develop a AAA game. This is truly surprising!”
“Which company do you think the sky screen is referring to?”
The executives below immediately switched to flattery mode.
“Chairman Ma, in all of Dragon Nation, who else but Tencent could develop a AAA masterpiece?”
“Exactly! This AAA game must be ours!”
“All thanks to Chairman Ma’s visionary leadership. Without you, Dragon Nation would never have such an incredible game!”
Pony Ma listened to their praises with a calm expression before saying:
“If you claim this AAA game is ours, then tell me—which department has a proposal for developing a AAA title?”
“Which team even has the capability to create one?”
“Or is there anyone here willing to take on this responsibility?”
At his words, the room fell silent.
After all, AAA games required massive investments and long development cycles—far less profitable than mobile games in the short term.
None of the department heads dared to volunteer.
Seeing this, Pony Ma grew displeased. “Why is no one speaking up now?”
“It seems this AAA game was most likely developed by NetEase.”
“Ding Lei pulled off such a huge move without making a sound!”
Meanwhile.
NetEase Headquarters.
Ding Lei, NetEase’s CEO, had also called an emergency meeting with his executives.
As Tencent’s strongest competitor, Ding Lei had a clear strategy for his company:
Whatever type of game Tencent made, NetEase would follow.
But since Tencent had never announced plans for a AAA game, NetEase had no such plans either.
So, when Ding Lei saw the sky screen reveal that a Dragon Nation company had developed its first AAA game, his first thought was:
“It must be Tencent!”
After all, he couldn’t think of any other company with the resources to pull it off.
In the meeting room, Ding Lei looked at his executives with a serious expression:
“After initial analysis, we believe the company behind Dragon Nation’s first AAA game is most likely Tencent.”
“Do any of you have a countermeasure?”
The executives remained silent.
They all knew the challenges of AAA development—and facing Tencent as the competitor made the task even more daunting.
No one wanted to take on this responsibility.
Seeing their reactions, Ding Lei sighed helplessly:
“Sigh… It seems Tencent has beaten us again.”
Just then, the sky screen revealed more details.
The black screen displayed four words: “Game Science.”
Then, an emaciated old monk appeared onscreen, narrating in a hoarse voice:
“You’ve all heard stories about him.”
“Some say he helped Tang Monk obtain the true scriptures, was named the Victorious Fighting Buddha, and remained in Ling Mountain.”
“Others say the one who became Buddha wasn’t him at all.”
“And some claim the Journey to the West never happened—that he was just a monkey made up by storytellers.”
“But the tale I’m about to tell… you’ve never heard before.”
“This story begins with a golden toad.”
The opening scene followed.
Yang Jian (Erlang Shen) and the Four Heavenly Kings arrived at Flower-Fruit Mountain, confronting Sun Wukong.
Despite the overwhelming pressure from the heavens, Wukong refused to yield.
“I saved the people. I fetched the scriptures.”
“I don’t want any titles—I just want to return to Flower-Fruit Mountain and live free!”
“The gods above don’t trust me—I get that.”
“Sending you with your flimsy troops to intimidate me into returning as a god—I get that too!”
“But what I don’t get… is why you killed my monkey brethren!”
Across different timelines,
spectators were electrified by the stunning visuals and immersive voice acting.
“T-This is Dragon Nation’s first AAA game?”
“The production quality is insane!”
“Just the visuals alone have me hyped!”
“I never thought our first AAA game would be based on Journey to the West!”
“I’m buying it for sure—but can someone tell me which company made this?”
“Game Science? Who are they?”
“I’ve never heard of them before!”
“I’ve been an assassin in Egypt, a witcher in another world, a dragon slayer, a knight—I’ve done it all.”
“Now, finally, I see hope—I can return to my own country’s fantasy world and become the Monkey King!”
“To Chinese people, the Monkey King isn’t just a mythical figure anymore—he’s evolved into a spirit.”
“A unique bond between an entire nation and this one legendary being. Just seeing his appearance brings me to tears!”

Tencent Headquarters.
In the meeting room, one executive suddenly realized something after seeing “Game Science” onscreen.
“Chairman Ma! I know who founded this company!”
Everyone turned to look.
Pony Ma asked curiously, “Who?”
The executive replied, “It’s Old Feng!”
“Feng Ji—the former lead designer of our Fight Against the Gods project!”
“He left Tencent in 2014 to start his own company, saying he wanted to develop Dragon Nation’s first AAA game.”
“I never thought he’d actually succeed!”
Hearing Feng Ji’s name, many in the room showed surprise—several had known him personally.
Back when he resigned, they’d thought he was foolish for leaving a powerhouse like Tencent.
Pony Ma’s eyes lit up.
“So he was once our employee?”
“Can you still contact him?”
“We must acquire his studio!”
“No—even just securing a stake would be enough!”
“Remember: spare no expense!”

Hangzhou.
Game Science Studio.
Feng Ji stood frozen in place after seeing the sky screen’s revelation.
The content matched his design documents almost exactly.
Yang Qi, the studio’s lead designer, burst into the office excitedly:
“Old Feng! The game on the sky screen—isn’t that our Black Myth: Wukong?!”
“Old Feng… future us actually made it happen!!!”
