Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 1897 - 1890: Meeting the Deity Again
CHAPTER 1897: CHAPTER 1890: MEETING THE DEITY AGAIN
Watching Luoya leave, Luo’er glanced at the doorway at Feng, then at the draft in his hand, sighed unconsciously, and shook his head, saying, "It seems I need to find a secretary."
The work on hand made Luo’er realize that he needed more talent to assist him. And within Lipei City, there were still many untapped talents, some of whom were old acquaintances. If he could recruit them, it would undoubtedly benefit his governance of Lipei greatly.
After spending more than two hours, Luo’er had drafted a piece over a thousand words long, which had left him exhausted.
So he set down the paper and pen, got up, and said to Feng, "Get ready, we’re heading out."
"Where to?"
Although aware that it’s not a question a guard should ask, Feng couldn’t help but speak up instinctively.
"To the street, to recruit talent," Luo’er said without hesitation.
"Recruit on the street?" Feng strapped the sword to his waist, tilted his head, and asked.
"To visit some talents, the saying goes ’paying three visits to a humble cottage’ might also work. Look at me as a Commander, having nothing, not even a secretary around me," Luo’er said, spreading his hands.
Luo’er’s first choice was Nightingale, who had always stayed at the library.
This was a heavyweight, having participated in almost the entire Origin Project process, witnessing the headquarters grow step by step in the Otherworld, and also witnessing the rise of Lipei. She was an invaluable talent.
Internally at the headquarters, to this day, only two people from the Otherworld had received complete trust. One was Yalunte, and the other was Nightingale.
The core secret of the headquarters was the Origin Project, and these two had participated in it from the very beginning, thus earning the complete trust of the headquarters.
However, upon arriving at the library, before seeing Nightingale, Luo’er ran into two familiar people.
"Long time no see, should I call you Captain Luo’er, or Commander Luo’er?"
A silver-haired, red-eyed girl idly leaned on the sofa, surrounded by browsed books, while a Snow Elf busily carried a tall stack of books over.
"You’re too kind, Lady Xia Yue, just call me Luo’er." Luo’er bowed slightly and said respectfully.
Once knowing that the little girl before him was a god from the Otherworld, Luo’er dared not underestimate her in any way, and his tone became extremely humble.
"Still the same, went to the East Continent for a few years, no visible change in appearance, temper still the same, as expected from an Elf hybrid," Xia Yue said, placing the open book on her chest and smiling.
"Encountered misfortune in the East Continent, thanks to the intervention of Lady Xia Yue, only then..."
"Eh," Xia Yue interrupted him, speaking leisurely, "The decision to save you came from your headquarters, it was the High-peak people who took the fleet to the East Continent. Why are you thanking me instead of them?"
"Thanks to Lady Xia Yue connecting with us, therefore..."
"You must understand," Xia Yue interrupted him again, "The headquarters intended to find people regardless of your whereabouts; the High-peak people were going to take the fleet there to bring members back, no matter the fate of the exploration fleet. What I did was merely catalyzing it. Whether or not I was there, they would go to save you, so there’s no need to thank me."
"No," Luo’er shook his head, "Even so, I still have to thank Lady Xia Yue."
"And why is that?" Xia Yue tilted her head, asking with interest.
"We were in distress in the East Continent, having gone through the West Heaven War and Dongsheng Empire’s civil unrest. Many times, we were on the brink of despair, unable to find peace. Thanks to Lady Xia Yue’s notice, we all reignited the fire of hope once more. For this reason alone, Lady Xia Yue is the savior of our advance team," Luo’er explained seriously.
"Hmm, that reason is acceptable. Alright, I accept your thanks. Go do what you need to do, don’t disturb my reading..."
"Or rather..." Xia Yue said, extending her hand, her fair, slender onion-like fingers clenched and opened, turning her gaze to Luo’er with a smile and asking, "Shouldn’t you update me on all the interesting things you encountered in the East Continent?"
"No, that’s not necessary..."
Seeing her gesture, Luo’er’s past memories reactivated, causing his body to tremble, his face turned pale, and he shook his head repeatedly in refusal.
"What a reaction; it obviously didn’t hurt, and I clearly healed your ailments."
Xia Yue gave him a sideways glance before picking up her book again, engrossed in reading.
Her reading speed was immensely fast, akin to quantum reading. Every page flip took less than a second, no wonder there were so many books around her. At this pace, even the library’s collection might not suffice for a day.
Indeed, Xia Yue’s reading speed proved a challenge for the Snow Elf, who was continually bringing her books. She placed a stack of books beside Xia Yue with effort, wiped her sweat, looked up at Luo’er, and forced a smile.
"Long time no see, Ms. Axia." Luo’er addressed courteously.
"You too," Axia smiled, paused, blinking as she said, "Or should I address you as Commander Luo’er?"
"No need for formalities, just call me Luo’er," Luo’er gestured, waving his hand.
"It seems you’re not quite accustomed to becoming a commander yet," Axia remarked with a smile.
"Uh..."
Luo’er fell silent for a moment.
"You are the highest commander of Lipei. No matter how close our personal relationship, as long as we are members of Lipei, in official settings, we should call you Chief."
"Privately, I wish we remain friends," Luo’er said, scratching his head.
"That depends on how you define private and public," Axia tilted her head slightly and again flashed a warm smile.
Axia was a follower of Xia Yue, so there was no way to ask her for help. Despite feeling some regret, Luo’er decided not to disturb them further.
After chatting for a bit and bidding the two farewell, Luo’er delved deeper into the library and finally found Nightingale in the corner.
Like Xia Yue, she had numerous open books by her side. However, unlike Xia Yue’s rapid reading speed, her reading pace was normal.
Nightingale propped her chin, flipping through thick books, and her long hair cascaded down like a waterfall, resting on the desk.
Under the gentle light of the magic crystal lamp, her profile and the gold-rimmed glasses on her nose shimmered, casting a magical aura that made one momentarily forget her age and just remember the unique beauty of this world.
Before Luo’er could speak, a familiar voice lamented in his mind, "Luo’er, no lecherous thoughts."
The familiarity of the voice startled Luo’er into a jolt, catching Nightingale’s attention, and she slowly raised her head, looking at Luo’er with displeasure.
"Apologies, I didn’t mean to disturb you," Luo’er said apologetically.
"Did you need something?" Nightingale slightly raised her eyelids, her long eyelashes fluttering as she asked unhurriedly.
Her voice had a serene elegance, gentle and magnetic.
"Yes, does sister need anything?" Fulajie’er asked urgently in Luo’er’s mind.
"Uh, well," Luo’er scratched his head and straightforwardly said, "I’m now the highest commander in Lipei, fully responsible for all military and political affairs of Lipei."
"Is that so," Nightingale nodded slightly with a faint smile, saying, "Shouldn’t I congratulate you then?"
"Uh..."
"Since you’re the highest commander of Lipei, that means..." she pondered for a moment, then slowly lifted her eyes, saying, "You’re now my superior."
"I don’t dare claim such reverence. I am here to humbly request your assistance in taking a vital position in managing Lipei affairs," Luo’er said respectfully.
"You are the highest commander; there’s no need to be so courteous, just give the order," Nightingale said lightly.
"No, no," Luo’er waved his hands profusely, "If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t be this respectful. But I know well that Lady Nightingale is considered a veteran at headquarters, who has contributed so much over the years. I wouldn’t dare command you in such a manner."
Upon hearing Luo’er’s words, a smile finally appeared on Nightingale’s face. She looked at Luo’er and said, "Not seeing you for years, you’ve become quite flattering. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? But for you, it shouldn’t be a bad thing."
