"Does this look right now? If you had shown this expression from the start, I would have recognized you right away!" Pei Yan looked at the girl who had returned to her smiling demeanor and leaned back in her chair. He rubbed his sleepy eyes, with the arc in his hand extinguished, and continued to ask, "So, who exactly are you?"
The girl played with her long hair and retorted, "Take a guess?"
"You're just like me, an Origin Superpower User. How did you manage to escape from that place?" As Pei Yan spoke, he secretly moved his fingers, using his abilities to send a message to his companion's phone. But it was only then that he realized his control over electronic devices couldn't extend beyond this room!
"Don't bother; the entire room is already locked by me. Your abilities can't be used outside, so why don't we just have a quiet talk?"
"Sorry, but the last Origin Superpower User who said they wanted to have a good talk with me almost turned me into an idiot!" Pei Yan stared into the girl's eyes, sitting cross-legged with a cold snort.
"Mu Haoran, right?" The girl crossed her legs elegantly and rested her hands on her knees, letting out a cold chuckle and spitting out the name.
Upon hearing this, Pei Yan paused as he was taking out a cigarette, looked up, and said in surprise, "You know him?"
"Yes, a brat who follows others around to pick up scraps and thinks highly of himself!"
"I like that evaluation. So, who exactly are you, and what do you want from me?" Pei Yan asked with a satisfied grin, lighting a cigarette.
"I have no name, but you may call me 'Sister.' Now, I need your help."
Noticing the girl's confident and aloof expression, as if being her 'brother' was some great honor, Pei Yan shook his head helplessly and spread his hands, saying, "Sorry, I only have one sister, and why should I help you? Give me a reason!"
"I am the source of your power; I granted you the strength you have now. Is that reason enough?"
The girl's words stirred waves in Pei Yan's heart. The Origin superpower! My power was granted by her? Is all of this true?
Even though countless thoughts flashed through his mind, Pei Yan remained calm on the surface and questioned, "Why should I believe you?"
In response to Pei Yan's question, the girl was not angry. She instead lightly tapped his forehead with her finger and then smiled, saying, "Let's set this aside for now. You've been an Awakened for over a year; do you understand the essence of the Origin within you?"
"The essence of the Origin?"
Seeing the confused expression on Pei Yan's face, the girl clapped her hands gently and said, "Since you don't know, let me change the question. Humans refer to the energy within the Awakened as internal energy. Once ordinary superpowers deplete their internal energy, they replenish it through a passage in the spatial rift within their bodies. So, as someone who possesses the world's Origin, where do you replenish your energy from when it's exhausted?"
"You wouldn't say it's from your body, would you?" Pei Yan joked, shrugging his shoulders, also intrigued by this question.
The girl shook her head, extended her hand, and raised five fingers, folding them one by one as she said, "The five planes: the Daoist Plane's essence is yang, the Magic realm's essence is yin, what you call the Spirit Monster World corresponds to life, and the Hell Realm corresponds to death!"
After speaking, she left only her little finger and gestured towards Pei Yan, "The one left is our world. What do you think we are?"
"Neither yin nor yang, neither dead nor alive?" Pei Yan scratched his head with the hand holding the cigarette until the ash burned his fingers. He flicked the cigarette butt into the ashtray, frowning as he replied.
The girl rolled her eyes, unsure if this boy was pretending or truly dense. It's hard to believe that someone as smart as Pei Jin could have this as a brother. Irritated, she responded, "It's devouring, it's obliterating!"
"Oh! But why is it like that?" Pei Yan feigned a realization, nodding continuously and trying to extract more information.
"You humans decided this world as the cornerstone plane, but we're more like a recycling station, maintaining the balance of other planes. The energy of any plane must be kept at a balance point to prevent the worlds from collapsing due to overexpansion. When a plane's energy becomes too inflated, it will channel energy into our world to return to the balance point."
Drawing some new information from the girl's words, Pei Yan was genuinely interested now. He leaned in closer and continued to ask, "From what you're saying, doesn't our world resemble a trash can? Moreover, who established such a world mechanism? Was it naturally formed?"
"Unknown. Perhaps future scientific advancements will make it comprehensible, or maybe there really is a god in this world. But from what I've learned, these worlds have existed in this form for a very long time. And by 'long,' I mean in units of billions of years."
"Are you saying you've lived for over a billion years?" Pei Yan straightened up, his eyes wide with disbelief, wanting to see through the girl entirely. But even in the end, he couldn't discern anything different and asked in disbelief.
The girl shook her head, dispelling Pei Yan's fantasy: "If you consider this body you're seeing, it's just over three years old. If you consider my soul, it's just over a thousand years. But I've only truly been conscious for nearly a century."
"Oh, tell me, how did you grow so big at three years old?" Pei Yan said, getting up to open the mini-fridge by the bed, taking out two bottles of drink, opening one for himself, and casually tossing the other. He turned when he heard a 'thud,' only to see the bottle pass through the girl and hit the chair with a 'bang,' rolling to the ground.
Astounded, Pei Yan jumped off the bed, came next to the girl, and reached out, only to see his hand pass through her body swiftly, realizing it's a mental projection! Normally, nothing seemed amiss. With proximity, he could see the fine hairs on her skin and even feel her breathing and heartbeat!
"Have you seen enough?"
With the girl sweeping a cold glance over him, Pei Yan quickly raised both hands and repeatedly retreated, apologizing, "Sorry, I was just a bit excited. Even as he said this, he couldn't refrain from muttering, "So was that how I appeared to you and Mu Haoran that night?"
"Stop flattering yourself; don't compare your little Spiritual Power with mine!" After saying this, the girl gestured at the drink rolling on the ground. The bottle flew up in the air, landing in the girl's hand, leaving Pei Yan astounded. She opened the cap with a twist and then closed it, casually tossing it back to Pei Yan, mocking, "Materializing mental projections is no difficult task for me; it's just too bothersome to do it often."
At the time, Pei Yan thought the girl's remark was mere boastfulness. But later, when he happened to mention this incident to Elder Lin, through Elder Lin, he learned that materializing mental projections isn't a simple feat. Take Zuo Huaxian, for instance, although he could do it, pulling it off from a thousand miles away under main body control would be pure fantasy.
