CHAPTER 395: CHAPTER 268: SEEKER OF OMENS_4
"If you had agreed to join us as a consultant back then, I would have protected you today, no matter who came for you. But sadly, you are not one of us. Now, she can give me double what you can offer. If I truly wanted something you possess, I’d simply team up with her to eliminate you. We’d get what we want without any trouble, and I believe she’d be more than happy to do that."
This seemingly joking remark laid bare a brutal truth; Tamara knew she had no bargaining chips.
"So, are you blaming me for rejecting you back then?"
"No, you’re not important enough for me to deliberately seek revenge on. You’re not the only one in the world who understands Mysticism; others could still help me without you. I’m merely clarifying your current position."
Truth be told, it wasn’t really about revenge. After he left Totnes, he had even forgotten this person existed. Encountering her was just an odd twist of fate, but it didn’t interfere with his judgment of the situation.
"I’ll give you money; let me out early."
"Rules are rules. No amount of money will help," Lance said with a laugh as he stood up. There was nothing more to say. "At least you’re safe here."
Tamara waited until the iron door closed, then appeared somewhat dazed. If only I had agreed to him back then...
But then her thoughts turned agitated, and she couldn’t stop herself from complaining, "Who the hell knew you’d be so formidable! And now I’m in this mess because of you, you jerk!"
At this point, she had completely run out of options and just lay down on the bed in resignation.
After leaving, Lance didn’t go far but went straight to the cell where Amanda was detained.
When the iron door opened, the space was small, and he could see at a glance that she was lying on the bed, looking rather bored.
Yet, there was something intriguing about her posture; even in different clothes, her towering peaks were inescapable.
"Like what you see~?"
Amanda was unfazed, turning to look at him sideways.
As she moved, the mountains seemed to tumble, drawing Lance’s gaze involuntarily. He felt an impulse to rush forward and support the leaning tower before it collapsed, until a muted thud as they landed on the bed roused him as if from a dream.
It was as the saying goes: "A mountain range from one angle, a peak from another; different in appearance from near or far, high or low." Lance certainly witnessed its truth today.
"Nothing special." Regaining his composure, Lance met Amanda’s teasing gaze without a hint of embarrassment and walked over.
Tamara isn’t much of a threat, but this one... I’m not so sure. I can’t let my guard down just because she’s attractive. Someone groomed by a large organization inherently comes with a significant background. Unless I plan to eliminate her for good, it’s better to avoid too much interaction; it’ll only cause trouble. A true man, born in chaotic times, should strive for great achievements! How can I be swayed by mere beauty and become idle? Ultimately, the Old Ancestor is like a sword hanging over my head. I absolutely cannot let a woman cause complications and jeopardize the grand plan.
"I need to record your details and understand why you two fought," Lance said, his expression calm once more.
"Ask whatever you want. If I’m not mistaken, that Tamara woman must have told you about my situation and probably said a lot of bad things about me."
There was still a respect for power among Transcendents, and his reaction made Amanda adopt a considerably more serious demeanor.
"Indeed. She explained the situation to me in detail, and her assessment of you wasn’t favorable. But our investigation can’t rely solely on one person’s account."
Lance raised his hand, signaling for Amanda to speak for herself. She sat up, and perhaps because she was no longer constrained by a bra, her chest undulated even more noticeably.
"Tamara stole a Sacred Object from us; that’s why we had to retrieve it. In fact, if she had returned the item earlier, no one would have cared whether she lived or died."
Just as I thought, her account is vastly different from Tamara’s. Amanda’s tone also seemed to convey a strong disapproval of Tamara.
In Tamara’s version, she was the victim, oppressed and forced to flee.
But according to Amanda, Tamara was actually the one who started all the trouble.
