CHAPTER 122: CHAPTER 121: THE HERO SAVES TANG

The gathering was held at a mid-range restaurant on Gourmet Street, with a private room booking about five tables. Except for Thomas Reed, who was abroad, everyone from the International Department attended. Lawyers from other departments who were on good terms with the head of the International Department also joined in the fun, filling up the five tables completely.

Sienna Thornton, along with a few key attorneys from the International Department, sat at a table with the head of the department.

During the meal, people kept flattering the head, saying that the firm’s ability to secure DK’s business was all thanks to him. They praised him for providing outstanding guidance for DK’s expansion into the domestic market, which led DK to entrust Vantage with their Greater Coria business out of trust for him, calling him "the light of Vantage’s International Department"!

Knowing just how filthy and disgusting the DK case was, Sienna inwardly rolled her eyes but maintained a smiling face on the surface.

Aside from her and Lawyer Yates, all others were male lawyers. Among them were a few who, along with her, were part of the team that secured DK. But those people all held higher positions than she did. Even though she was the one who signed the DK deal, she wasn’t in a position to speak.

She didn’t really care. After all, she was planning to leave, so she just endured the nauseating drinking culture, silently drank her wine, and worried about how to manage next month’s loan.

The team deputy, Lawyer Chandler, suddenly staggered over with a drunken swagger, pushing Lawyer Yates away from her side, plopped down beside her, almost brushing against her arm. With a mouth reeking of alcohol and tobacco, he leaned in, chuckling, "Hey, Thornton! What’s wrong with you? Looking so gloomy all night? Aren’t you happy that the department signed the DK deal?"

As he said this, the head also turned to look over, looking displeased. Only he and Sienna knew the ins and outs of the DK deal, so he was particularly wary of Sienna causing a scene over it.

Clueless, Lawyer Chandler continued to mock Sienna, having always disliked her. A mere level-three lawyer with an office as large as his, a senior lawyer with years of practice, driving a BMW worth over 300,000 while he drove a Volkswagen worth tens of thousands!

Which man could swallow this insult? When Thomas Reed was still around, he was apprehensive of him and dared not touch Sienna, but now with Reed abroad and unable to watch over her, and with her about to leave, he could finally vent the frustration he had bottled up for two years.

Lawyer Chandler moved even closer to Sienna, his hand holding the wine glass already resting on her shoulder.

Sienna dodged a bit, but there was another male lawyer on the other side, and she felt awkward leaning on someone else. She gritted her teeth and simply sat up straight with her back erect.

Lawyer Chandler, with his foul mouth, asked, "I heard that you told people that the DK deal was your acquisition but got hijacked by the head, and you’re planning to take DK away after leaving Vantage?"

Hearing this, the head’s eyes almost bulged out, and he heavily put down his wine glass, shouting, "Thornton! Did you really say that?"

Sienna was too lazy to explain; she was never one to justify herself. But the less she talked, the more the head believed Lawyer Chandler’s words to be true, and he angrily called her aside to reprimand her.

"Back then, Partner Reed wanted you in the International Department. There were many who told me not to take you in, saying you were Reed’s person and would one day climb over my head! Hmph, I even spoke for you in front of them, but never expected you to prove them right! You’re about to leave, so why are you telling outsiders about DK’s matters? Do you have a grudge against me, holding it in your heart? Even at the end, you want to trick me?"

Mentioning Thomas Reed infuriated Sienna to the point where she wanted to counterattack, but her mind was in chaos, with countless little rebuttal words drifting in her head, unable to piece them together.

She tried to widen her eyes, and the head was already gone. She exhaled heavily, blushing as she walked inside.

Lawyer Chandler was still sitting in Lawyer Yates’ seat. Lawyer Yates had already fled to another table.

Sienna furrowed her brow and walked over, expecting Lawyer Chandler to start mocking again, "Looking at your expression, you’re not satisfied, huh? Who are you dissatisfied with? The head or me?"

Sienna let out a cold laugh, picked up the small glass of white wine by her side, drank it in one gulp, and then slammed the glass heavily on the table. Turning her head to look at Lawyer Chandler, she asked, "Are you really pushing it?"

She stood up, hand on her hip, looking down at him, "I call you senior out of my good upbringing! Do you think it’s your business skill that’s tough enough? Billable hours high enough? Revenue you’ve brought in for the firm sufficient? With your level of skill, your kind of quality, in the legal field, you are—"

Trash!

Those last words, she mouthed silently.

Lawyer Chandler was furious, grabbing the water glass beside him and wanting to smash it at her, but before he could bring it down, a force swiftly flipped him to the ground.

"What do you think you’re doing?" Simon Forrester stepped on the hand that was holding the glass, grinding it, his tone neither light nor heavy.

Lawyer Chandler howled in pain, asking those around him to call the police.

A lawyer had already picked up the phone, but before the call could go through, it was snatched away by the head.

The head hurried over, nodding and bowing to Simon Forrester, "Oh my, Mr. Forrester, how come you’re here? What a distinguished guest!"

Simon Forrester withdrew his foot, looking down at Lawyer Chandler on the ground and asking the head, "What’s going on? Who was he trying to hit with that glass?"

"Misunderstanding, misunderstanding, all a misunderstanding!" The head explained with a forced smile and then shouted to the other male lawyers standing aside, "Quick, help Chandler up and take him to the restroom to clean up!"

Lawyer Chandler was taken away, and peace returned to the scene.

The head invited Simon Forrester to sit down on the side and had the hotel bring out a new set of utensils.

"What brings Mr. Forrester here today? Just passing by?" The head of the department naturally couldn’t guess that Simon Forrester was there for Sienna.

Simon Forrester looked directly across the round table at Sienna, smiled, and said, "Came to find someone."

"I see." The head continued to smile, starting to toast with Simon Forrester.

However, Simon Forrester didn’t drink a single sip, just sat there staring at Sienna. After a moment, he suddenly asked, "You signed the deal with DK, right?"

The head nodded repeatedly, "Signed, signed, we’re celebrating getting that deal today."

Simon Forrester smiled and asked again, "Do you know why DK signed with Vantage?"

Apart from Sienna, everyone else looked at each other.

The head forced a smile, "In Brimfield, there are only one or two firms stronger than Vantage. It’s only logical they’d sign with Vantage."

Simon Forrester looked at Sienna, his eyes burning, "From what I know, DK initially wanted to sign with Lawyer Thornton personally, but because Vantage has a rule against individual signings of registered lawyers, DK turned around and signed with Vantage’s team, correct?"

"..." The head choked on a sip of wine.

Other lawyers whispered among themselves.

Sienna let out a soft laugh, tilted her head back, finished her white wine, picked up her handbag, and walked out.

She knew Simon Forrester was there for her, speaking those words for her sake, yet she didn’t feel satisfaction or relief, rather, she felt it was vulgar.

She didn’t need his rescue.

If it weren’t for him, DK wouldn’t have signed with Vantage, and there wouldn’t have been tonight’s mess.

But on second thought, if not for the DK case, how would she have seen clearly what kind of person he was?

Oh well, never mind!

All just life’s jokes.

Sienna staggered into the restroom, splashed her face with water, and the dizzy feeling didn’t get better. Instead, because the kick from the white wine was coming up, her whole body felt weak.

Suddenly, a turmoil surged in her stomach, and she rushed to the stall.
