Chapter 20: Lucky to Be Alive
CHAPTER 20: CHAPTER 20: LUCKY TO BE ALIVE
Simon Forrester glanced down at the phone on the table.
The picture showed bank transactions, seemingly photographed from a certain phone. The names of the payer and payee were clear, with one or multiple transactions each month, ranging from thousands to tens of thousands.
Upon seeing this, Simon Forrester fell silent.
However, his silence wasn’t because he saw evidence of Thomas Reed transferring money to Sienna Thornton, but because he didn’t really want to get involved in this jealousy issue between a man and a woman.
Seeing he didn’t speak, Mrs. Reed assumed he was also acknowledging Thomas’s act of keeping Sienna Thornton, and immediately, as if finding an ally, she started tearing up in grievance.
With her crying, Simon Forrester’s already impatient mood grew more irritable.
He stood up, walked toward the balcony door farthest from Mrs. Reed, paused for a moment, then turned to look at Sienna Thornton, "Lawyer Thornton, I suggest you call the police."
Mrs. Reed had a moment of shock upon hearing this.
She glared hatefully at Simon Forrester, stopped her tears, and then relaxed against the sofa, tauntingly looking at Sienna Thornton: "Go ahead and call the police! I’m just afraid this won’t get big enough! You better sue me in court, let the whole country know what a disgrace you are!"
The more she spoke, the more excessive she became. Sienna Thornton, who had been silent all along, suddenly chuckled, "According to Article 245 of the Criminal Law, illegal intrusion into another person’s residence is punishable by detention or imprisonment for up to three years; Article 234 states that intentionally injuring another person is punishable by detention, imprisonment, or control for up to three years. Even if the sentences are combined, Mrs. Reed would have to spend at least three years in prison. Are you sure you want me to make a big deal out of it?"
Mrs. Reed was suddenly choked up, her arrogant demeanor instantly diminished by more than half.
Even though she was the wife of a well-known lawyer, due to their cold marital relationship, Thomas Reed never wanted to educate her on the law, so she thought that bringing people into Sienna Thornton’s house, even if it went to the police station and court, at most would result in a fine or warning, how could it possibly escalate to such serious imprisonment?
But Sienna Thornton’s every mention of the "Criminal Law" and "regulations" really sounded quite convincing.
Mrs. Reed felt both fearful and indignant. She slammed the table hard, her finger painted with bright red nail polish almost poked Sienna Thornton in the nose, "If my husband refuses to withdraw the divorce decision, then you’ll die by my hands sooner or later! Even if I have to go to prison, I’ll drag you down with me!"
After saying those harsh words, she gave Simon Forrester a sharp glare before leaving with her entourage.
Auntie King, who had been released, ran in from outside with a pale face, trembling and asked, "Lawyer Thornton, who are they? They were so scary! I didn’t even open the door, and they just barged in!"
Sienna Thornton was already annoyed, had no time to comfort Auntie King, and sat on the couch deep in thought alone.
Simon Forrester got up to inspect the front door, shaking the fragile spherical lock on it, mocked, "With this kind of lock, Lawyer Thornton, it’s a miracle you’ve survived this long."
Sienna Thornton rolled her eyes at him and beckoned Auntie King over: "Auntie, help me back to my room first, then go downstairs and find a locksmith to fix this lock.
"Lawyer Thornton! Even if you fix the lock, it won’t be any use! This community is poorly managed, there’s no access control at the stairway, anyone can come up, and the door is indeed too weak... what if those people come back again?"
Auntie King’s words made Sienna Thornton feel even worse.
Taking a deep breath, she calmly asked, "Then what should we do? Even if we want to replace the door, it would have to be tomorrow, right?"
Auntie King didn’t respond.
Instead, Simon Forrester stood by, analyzing professionally, "You can’t just buy a door and install it for immediate use. Ordering one to fit your door frame size takes at least half a month. Once installed, it has to be fixed for three days before use. Altogether, it’s at least three weeks."
Upon hearing that there must be three weeks of living in constant fear, Auntie King instantly became unsettled, "If that’s the case, then I have to resign. Mr. Forrester, since you’re here, please settle my wages for this period, I’m leaving. I’m getting old, I can’t handle another incident like this."
"..." Sienna Thornton was speechless, glaring at Simon Forrester fiercely, as if asking with his eyes: Are you saying these things to scare Auntie King away to save on caregiver expenses?
