CHAPTER 55: CHAPTER 55: ONE WAVE AFTER ANOTHER
Maeve hesitated on the other end of the line, momentarily speechless.
The Raines Family father and son held their breath and watched Sienna Thornton, warning her with their eyes not to play any tricks.
Sienna understood and added, "It’s nothing major. Mainly, my brother is getting married, and the bride’s family is asking for a cash dowry. I also want to give him a grand wedding, so while I’m back, I plan to settle all this. I’ll send you his account number later."
Maeve hesitated for a moment but finally responded, "Okay."
After hanging up the phone, Sienna raised an eyebrow and looked at the Raines Family father and son, "Is that good enough? You’ll see the 800,000 tomorrow."
Jared Raines was so happy that he ran outside to call his girlfriend.
Felix Raines’s expression also softened, "That’s good. It seems raising you wasn’t in vain."
Sienna gritted her molars hard, but didn’t show it on her face. Confronting the Raines Family father and son head-on would only be a waste of effort and hurt Melinda Linton. She could only endure.
Melinda sat on the bed, crying her heart out, insisting on staying so Sienna wouldn’t have to hand over the 800,000.
Sienna suddenly felt that the Raines Family father and son were like vampires, determined to drain her as long as they were alive. Giving 800,000 tomorrow wouldn’t end it.
But she had no other choice; she had to get out of here first, and then plan how to deal with the Raines Family father and son.
Money has always been a powerful thing. Ever since Sienna agreed to give the 800,000, the Raines Family father and son seemed like different people, treating Sienna with excessive politeness. They even said that once Jared married, they would bring his partner to Brimfield to visit Sienna.
As if the violence and intimidation they inflicted on Sienna in the past few days were all just a joke.
Sienna looked at the two of them, not only brainless but also shameless, and thought: Just wait until I get out of here, then you’ll get what’s coming to you!
"Come on, big sis, eat more, win more lawsuits, so our parents can also enjoy the good life with you!" Jared offered Sienna a large piece of braised fatty meat.
Looking at that piece of meat, greasy with fat and tainted with Jared’s saliva from his chopsticks, Sienna’s stomach turned. She made an excuse about feeling unwell and hid in Melinda’s room, planning to wait until the Raines Family finished eating before coming out.
The two hadn’t exchanged more than a few words when suddenly a commotion erupted outside.
Sienna secretly opened the door slightly to peek outside.
The shabby little living room was crowded with people, led by an old man sitting nonchalantly on a chair, shouting loudly, "Felix! You still owe me a daughter-in-law! When do you plan to give her to me?"
Felix Raines bent over, speaking in a low, humble voice, "Isn’t the child just back home? My wife just barely escaped death at the hospital, and the kid wants to spend a few more days with her. Just a few days! In a few days, I’ll personally bring her to your house!"
Sienna felt a surge of dread in her heart and quickly closed the door.
Seeing her pale face, Melinda asked, "Who’s here?"
"The village head," Sienna whispered, quickly taking out her phone to text Maeve for help.
As soon as she opened the chat window, the door behind her was violently slammed. The old wooden door, almost eaten away by termites, was held shut by only a flimsy latch that soon gave way to the strong man outside.
Sienna stumbled forward a few steps and took advantage of it to grab the crutch leaning against the wall, holding it in front of her as a weapon.
The man in front with a face full of rough flesh went wide-eyed upon seeing Sienna standing inside the room. Stunned for a few moments, he hurriedly ran outside to pull in a dark and skinny old man, sheepishly pointing at Sienna and asking, "Dad! Is she, she, she the girl I’m supposed to marry?"
