CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

The village chief’s house is situated halfway up the mountain, with a garden, a mansion, and a garage. Its opulence is astonishing, forming a stark contrast with the mud houses built of yellow earth at the foot of the mountain.

Jared Raines brought them to the foot of the mountain and then slipped away.

Maeve sneered, "This village chief must be up to no good! Watch how I deal with this rural tyrant later!"

Simon Forrester looked grim, "That’s all for later; first, we need to rescue Lawyer Thornton."

He stepped forward and kicked the garden’s iron gate with a loud bang.

Soon, a young man came out wielding a wooden stick and asked fiercely, "Who are you looking for?"

"The village chief!"

Seeing that he and Maeve were dressed in luxury, unlike the villagers nearby, the man immediately gripped the stick tightly and shouted, "Who are you people? What do you want with the village chief?"

Maeve stepped forward and shrieked, "Sienna Thornton is my sister-in-law! She said she was returning home to visit her sick mom but ended up marrying the village chief’s son? Are you kidding? This is bigamy! My family is going to take her and the village chief’s son to court!"

The man froze, sensing something fishy, and didn’t dare to drive Simon Forrester and Maeve away. He hurried back inside to report.

Maeve had never shouted so loudly before; her face flushed red to her neck, breathing heavily.

She turned to ask Simon Forrester, whose face was icy cold, "Is everything ready?"

Simon Forrester nodded, walked aside, and lit a cigarette.

In less than the time of a cigarette, the village chief swaggered over with a group of people, staring at Maeve across the iron gate, "What’s the meaning of this? Felix’s daughter got married outside?"

Simon Forrester flicked away the cigarette butt, stepped forward with a sarcastic expression, "You, a dignified village chief, snatching my wife to be your daughter-in-law, how does that make any sense?"

The men following the village chief murmured among themselves, "How is this different from marrying a widow?"

"This is even worse than marrying a widow..."

The village chief’s face turned very unpleasant, squinted as he scanned Simon Forrester up and down, and ordered, "Invite them in to talk!"

The main gate swung open.

Simon Forrester and Maeve were escorted into the main house. As soon as they entered, Maeve shrieked, "Bring Sienna Thornton out for a face-off!"

Of course, the village chief wouldn’t hand over anyone so hastily. After sitting down on an expensive mahogany armchair, he asked, "You said you married Felix’s daughter, what evidence do you have?"

Simon Forrester promptly pulled two marriage certificates from the pocket of his trench coat and tossed them on the table in front of the village chief.

The village chief opened them, saw that the people in the photos were indeed Sienna Thornton and Simon Forrester, and furiously slammed the marriage certificates on the table, shouting, "Damn it! I’ve been tricked by Felix!"

Just as he was about to order someone to go upstairs and call Sienna Thornton down, a ghastly scream suddenly echoed from upstairs.

On hearing it, the village chief’s face turned pale. He stood up and yelled, "Something’s wrong, it’s my son’s voice. Go up and see what’s happening!"

As everyone was about to rush to the second floor, Simon Forrester, with his tall stature and long legs, had already sprinted up the stairs from the living room.

The screaming continued. Simon Forrester followed the sound to a room with a closed door, raised his foot, and kicked it open forcefully.

Sienna Thornton’s white sweater was torn at the sleeve, exposing her fair and delicate skin. At this moment, she was standing in the corner, struggling to keep her balance.

Simon Forrester quickly took off his trench coat, approached her, wrapped her up, and held her protectively in his arms.
