Overlord: The Multiverse
Chapter 278: Date with Mitsuri
CHAPTER 278: CHAPTER 278: DATE WITH MITSURI
Mitsuri practically skipped ahead, her excitement bubbling over as she led me to her favourite restaurant. It was a cosy little place tucked into a quiet street, the warm glow of lanterns illuminating the wooden façade.
The scent of grilled eel wafted through the air, making my stomach rumble despite my vampiric nature. Even I could appreciate a good meal from time to time, especially in the company of someone as lively as Mitsuri.
We stepped inside, and the owner greeted her warmly. It was clear she was a regular here, and her enthusiasm was infectious. Mitsuri guided us to a table near the window and immediately began gushing about the menu.
"They have the best grilled eel here! Oh, and their pickled vegetables are amazing too! And you have to try their miso soup—it’s so flavorful!" she said, practically vibrating with excitement.
I chuckled, nodding along as she rambled. "Sounds like you’ve got your favorites all figured out."
"Oh, absolutely! I come here whenever I can," she said, grinning.
When the waiter arrived, Mitsuri wasted no time placing her order. Actually, it was less of an order and more of a small feast. She rattled off dish after dish, her enthusiasm never waning. By the time she was finished, I was pretty sure she’d ordered enough to feed a small army.
"I’ll have the same," I said casually, though I doubted I’d manage to keep up with her.
The waiter nodded, looking slightly amused, and disappeared into the kitchen. While we waited, Mitsuri chatted about everything from her favorite foods to the quirks of the other Demon Slayers. Her cheerful energy was contagious, and I found myself relaxing in her presence.
When the food arrived, the table was practically overflowing. Mitsuri’s eyes sparkled as she picked up her chopsticks, ready to dig in. "Let’s eat!" she declared, diving into her meal with gusto.
Watching her eat was a sight to behold. Despite her graceful demeanor, she tore through the food with astonishing speed and enthusiasm, her cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk as she savored every bite. She was clearly in her element, completely unbothered by how much she was consuming.
To my surprise, she managed to outpace even me. I’d thought my vampiric metabolism and enhanced endurance would give me the edge, but Mitsuri proved me wrong. By the time she finished her last dish, she leaned back with a satisfied sigh, patting her stomach contentedly.
"That was so good," she said, smiling. Then, as if realizing how much she’d eaten, her smile faltered. Her cheeks flushed a deep pink, and she looked down, fidgeting with her chopsticks. "Um, Alex-san... you must think I’m terrible, huh? Eating so much..."
I raised an eyebrow, genuinely confused. "Why would I think that?"
"Well..." She hesitated, her voice growing softer. "A lot of people can’t handle it. My appetite, I mean. They think it’s... unladylike. Some even say it’s too much. And when you combine that with how strong I am... Well, let’s just say it’s not exactly helped me find someone who can accept me for who I am."
I leaned forward, resting my elbows on the table as I studied her. "Is that why you joined the Demon Slayer Corps?"
She nodded, her blush deepening. "Yeah. I thought... maybe I’d find someone who wouldn’t mind. Someone who’d see past all of that."
I leaned back, crossing my arms as I considered her words. Mitsuri was strong—physically and mentally.
But beneath all that strength, there was a vulnerability she rarely showed.
It was clear she’d been hurt before, dismissed by people who couldn’t see her for who she truly was.
"I don’t think it’s terrible at all," I said finally. "In fact, I think since you are extremely strong compared to the rest of your peerage, you also need that much food to maintain that strength. And from the looks of it, your are extremely healthy despite eating this much. You know what you want, and you’re not afraid to enjoy life. There’s nothing wrong with that."
Mitsuri looked up at me, her eyes wide with surprise. "You really mean that?"
"Of course," I said, smirking. "Though I do have one suggestion."
"What’s that?" she asked, tilting her head curiously.
"If you ever get tired of this place, you’re welcome to come to my home," I said. "We’ve got plenty of chefs there who can cook up anything you like. No matter how much you eat, they’ll always be ready to make more."
She stared at me in shock. "R-really? You’d let me come to your home? Just like that?"
"Why not?" I said with a shrug. "You’re fun to be around, and I wouldn’t mind showing you where I live. Besides, I think you’d like it. It’s... unique."
She hesitated for a moment, her cheeks still pink. Then, she smiled—a bright, genuine smile that lit up her entire face. "I’d love that, Alex-san. Thank you."
"It’s settled then," I said, standing up and offering her my hand. "Shall we head out?"
She took my hand, her grip surprisingly firm as she rose from her seat. "Yeah! Let’s go."
Just then I heard a notification sound.
