CHAPTER 371: CHAPTER 371: WANT TO BE MY SISTER?

So, what she means is, he’s more suited to be her brother?

The man’s face turned ashen as he looked at her.

After An Yin finished speaking, her mind was in a daze.

She...

Um, what did she just say? An Yin lowered her head, embarrassed, turned away, not daring to look at the man’s stern profile. She shifted slightly, and the spot where the anklet was worn tingled, as if a little cat was gently scratching an itch.

"Want to be my sister?"

As An Yin sat restlessly, the man’s cold voice sounded above her head. She sat properly with her legs together, a trace of confusion flashing across her face.

"I was just saying," she murmured in a muffled voice.

The little girl felt wronged? Bao Shaojin silently stared at her with a chilling look, his deep, husky voice unreasonably domineering, "Just saying is not okay."

There’s no way in this lifetime he would recognize her as his sister! She might as well give up on that idea.

An Yin, "..." She really couldn’t understand why the man’s attitude was so resolute.

As An Yin remained silent, Bao Shaojin eventually decided not to dwell on the matter further. However, there was still a slight knot in his heart, after all, the little woman he fancied actually wanted to become his sister?

To a man who was always proud and aloof, this was simply an insult.

"Thud, thud, thud..."

As the two fell silent, raindrops began to fall on the car window, making a crisp sound.

"It’s raining." An Yin peeked out the car window, a trace of worry crossing her face.

She was concerned that her clothes would get soaked when she got home later.

Bao Shaojin heard her words, and his gaze lightly glanced outside, "It’ll stop in a while."

When he spoke, there was an innate confidence that made anyone trust him from the bottom of their hearts.

The smoke in the air gradually dissipated along with the raindrops.

Every New Year’s Eve, people always set off firecrackers, which would continue throughout the night. With this rain, the sound of firecrackers outside gradually decreased.

Every New Year, the house seemed very quiet, with only her and Ms. An. Moreover, they had no relatives, so when others were visiting family during the Spring Festival, she and her mother would mostly stay home exploring culinary delights.

The little girl propped her hand on the car’s armrest, resting her chin, looking whimsically cute as if she were lost in thought.

Bao Shaojin, with his back straight, leaned against the seat, his peripheral vision constantly on her.

The little girl was always quiet, spoke little, timid, and even barely able to take care of herself. Bao Shaojin squinted slightly, this innocent little girl had unknowingly entered his heart. Although he initially guarded against her, he couldn’t resist the stubborn obsession in his heart, making him fall deeper and deeper.

Recently, he found himself visiting the little girl more frequently, which made him realize all the more clearly that he needed to take action.

Bao Cheng, that kid, was about to get engaged. He absolutely wouldn’t let that kid still have the little girl as his girlfriend when he has a fiancée.

Absolutely impossible!

Inside the car, a cold aura emanated from the man’s body.

"Buzz buzz..."

"Buzz buzz..."

The man’s phone kept receiving some messages, the screen constantly lit up, capturing An Yin’s attention. She tilted her head, watching the messages pop up at the top of the screen.

"Someone’s messaging you." An Yin, thinking the man had fallen asleep due to his tired expression with eyes closed, cautiously reminded him.

"They’re just spam messages." The man briefly said with his thin lips.

Seeing his unchanged face and calm demeanor, An Yin’s heart raced: he wasn’t asleep at all!

Since he spoke up, An Yin didn’t want to meddle further, but as she withdrew her gaze, she noticed the name Shen Jingrou on the top of the screen, followed by a message from her.

"Sister Jingrou messaged as well," An Yin called out excitedly.

Bao Shaojin suddenly opened his eyes, unlocked his phone, opened the chat with Shen Jingrou, and the next second, he tossed the phone into the little girl’s hands. "Help me reply with a message."

An Yin felt the weight in her hands, surprised as the man tossed the phone to her without any warning, while he closed his eyes to rest.

"Isn’t this inappropriate?" An Yin timidly mumbled.

A proud and aloof look crossed the man’s cold face, showing no intention of paying her any mind.

As the phone screen was about to go dark, An Yin reached out, her fair and slender fingers lightly touching the screen, making it light up immediately.

What she saw was their usual chat conversation.

It was mostly messages from Shen Jingrou. An Yin tilted her head, sneakily glanced at the man, and seeing his eyes closed, she nervously and boldly browsed through their past chat history.

The more An Yin read, the more bewildered she became.

The messages were all holiday greeting messages from Shen Jingrou, while Bao Shaojin hadn’t replied with a single text message, the long chat log seemed cold and empty.

An Yin scrolled to their latest chat record.

[Shen Jingrou: Big brother, wishing you good health and success in love and career in the new year. Xiao Ai and I are here to give you an early New Year’s greeting. I know you’ve been busy socializing, so I won’t disturb you any further.]

Everyone in the circle knew that Bao Shaojin would definitely be staying at the Bao Mansion during this time, as it was the Bao Family’s tradition. In earlier years, when Shen Jingrou wasn’t married, she often visited the Bao Mansion. But ever since she got married and lost her husband, Shen Jingrou hadn’t appeared in front of the old lady of Bao during any holidays. The old lady was strict and very superstitious, considering Shen Jingrou, a widowed and displaced woman, somewhat taboo, though she never openly said so.

Everyone knew the reality clearly! After all, in previous years, the old lady gave New Year’s red envelopes to all the juniors, but the year Shen Jingrou left the Lin Family, she didn’t receive any invitation from the old lady. When Shen Jingrou wanted to visit, she was repeatedly and politely refused, making her come to terms with the reality.

An Yin held the man’s phone, carefully studying the messages, read them twice before thoughtfully typing swiftly on the screen.

[Bao Shaojin: Thank you for your blessings. I also wish you and Xiao Ai happiness and joy every day.]

After typing, she clicked send.

In less than a second, the man’s phone rang, startling An Yin nearly out of her seat. She nervously held the phone, "Bao Shaojin, Sister Jingrou is calling. You better take it."

Bao Shaojin suddenly opened his eyes, his gaze as clear as the moon, "What did you reply?"

He had seen the little girl typing happily on the phone earlier.

An Yin paused slightly and softly repeated the message she sent.

As she finished, the man’s brows furrowed more visibly, "Answer the call, put it on speaker."

Watching the phone screen, and with the man’s stern voice, An Yin pressed to answer and then turned on the speaker.

"Who are you? Where did you find this phone?"
