CHAPTER 260: CHAPTER 262: I CAN’T BREATHE...

Sophie Sullivan’s mind was blank. All her memories of the past were gone.

She didn’t know if she had a loved one; currently, she did not.

Fluffy Zane smiled bitterly, her eyes glistening with tears. "When you truly have someone you love, you’ll find that love is uncontrollable. Take me, for example. I know William Guillen isn’t a good person, yet I just can’t bring myself to give him up. Even though I know that in others’ eyes, I’m pathetic... but I can’t help it. I truly love him."

Sophie didn’t understand. "Even if he keeps hurting you?"

"I also hope that one day, he’ll hurt me so much that I’ll no longer feel sad, no longer grieve for him. I think that day will be the day I completely lose heart."

Sophie smiled faintly. "I hope that day isn’t too far away."

"I hope so."

On the way back to the manor, Sophie was unusually silent.

Thomas Shannon’s long arm reached out and pulled her onto his lap. One hand circled her slender waist, while the other tilted up her delicate chin. "What’s got you down?"

Shouldn’t she be overjoyed that her face could be restored? Why the long face? Who is it for?

Sophie was preoccupied with Fluffy Zane’s words, momentarily lost in thought. It wasn’t until her cheek was pinched painfully that she hissed.

She looked up, glaring angrily at Thomas Shannon. "What are you doing?"

"I’m asking you a question. Why are you so down?"

"Nothing. Just thinking about something."

Thomas Shannon raised an eyebrow, extremely interested in what she was so engrossed in. "What are you thinking about? Tell me."

Sophie raised her hand and pushed his handsome face away. "Thomas Shannon, don’t be so nosy."

"Are you disgusted with me?"

The man’s eyes darkened. Pinching her chin, he turned her head to face him. "What were you thinking about just now?"

"Are you sure you want me to say it?"

"Cut the crap. Say it."

Sophie said without batting an eye, "I was thinking that the one who falls in love first is destined to be hurt more. So, I’d better not fall for you."

"What did you say?"

Thomas Shannon’s narrow eyes glinted dangerously. His deep voice, hoarser now, was laden with a threat that possessed immense deterrent force. "Say what you just said again."

"You don’t like me, so I’d better not like you either. That way, I won’t be the one who gets hurt more."

"Say it again!"

"Fine, I’ll say it..." Sophie defiantly tilted her chin, just as she was about to repeat herself.

Suddenly, she froze. Puzzled, she narrowed her eyes, her gaze, now somewhat hazy, fixed unblinkingly on Thomas Shannon.

"Huh..." Her voice trailed off as she spoke, one hand reaching out to touch his almost excessively handsome face. "Thomas Shannon, don’t tell me... you like me?"

The man’s lips curved into a devilishly charming smile, his eyes shimmering. "Oh, I’m definitely *into* you."

"Rascal!"

Pushing his face away with one hand, Sophie tried to get off his lap, but he tightened his grip around her waist, pulling her body firmly against his chest.

"Thomas Shannon, I can’t breathe..."

"Then suffocate, you little maniac!"

Sophie raised her hand and pinched him hard on the waist. "How can you be so cruel?"

"Cruel? It’s because I feel too deeply that I went to such lengths to find a doctor to treat your face!"

Come to think of it, he wasn’t entirely useless.

At least... when it came to finding a doctor for her, his sincerity was undeniable.
