Path to Becoming the Greatest Space Mercenary
Chapter 304 304 Jasmine’s and Olivia’s Harrowing Battle
Vandalen was shocked by Jasmine's unbelievably quick and powerful movements.
He had already judged her to be someone with augmentations by her agility and endurance, but the force with which she had just kicked him had been entirely unexpected.
His power armor may not have been the sturdiness out there since it was focused more on stealth, but it still boasted durable metal plating that could take blasts from a high-end laser pistol at point blank range.
He found it almost preposterous that a human woman whose head barely reached his chest could possess such immense strength.
Gritting his teeth, Vandalen hastily leveled his gun at Jasmine and pulled the trigger. She had proven herself to be more dangerous than expected, so he aimed to kill her rather than capture her.
Yet, when he pulled the trigger on his electromagnetic weapon, Jasmine sidestepped out of the way just before the projectile passed by.
By the time he had readjusted his aim, she was already too close to him for his weapon to be effective.
A heavy impact shook his right as she kicked him on the side of the knee where there was a joint in his armor.
Vandalen winced in pain for a moment, and his posture staggered.
As he tried to regain his bearings, he heard the sound of something metallic being jammed against his armor.
Jasmine had jammed her laser pistol directly against his chest.
Before he could even realize exactly what was going on she had fired, leaving another deep hole in his armor.
To stop her from shooting again and possibly breaking his defenses, Vandalen swung wildly with both of his arms and pushed of hard against the floor to create some distance between them.
However, by the time he had already landed, Jasmine was already rushing back towards him after having expertly evaded his punches.
He attempted to fire at her with his weapon, but she weaved around each of his shots. Easily reading the trajectory of his gun and dodging at the last moment right as he pulled the trigger.
This was not a feat that the average person could pull off, even if they had received some augmentations.
Vandalen himself had been enhanced a bit, focusing mostly on his cognitive ability and bone density rather than making himself stronger, since he usually wore power armor whenever he was on a mission.
Except, his reaction speed paled in comparison to Jasmine's. She hardly seemed human with how quickly she could move.
Grabbing his gun by the muzzle, Vandalen attempted swinging it in a wide arc like a club to try and catch Jasmine off-guard.
And though he did surprise her, she was still able to react in time and ducked out of the as a loud whoosh went over her head.
Though he grimaced when his strike missed, Vandalen did not stop attacking.
With his left leg he kicked towards Jasmine now that she was in a less stable position.
To his astonishment, she did not avoid the attack this time but instead caught it.
"Oof, that had some power behind it." Jasmine said with a groan of pain.
Still, she had just successfully caught a kick from somebody that was wearing power armor. Had a normal person attempted something like this, both of their arms would have been broken.
Stunned by what had just happened, Vandalen was not able to react in time to stop Jasmine from doing what she had planned next.
In an immense show of force, Jasmine twisted his leg and threw him onto the ground. With his stomach and face pressed against the floor.
"Now, let's see how sturdy your armor is right here."
Straddling on top of him to keep him pinned down, Jasmine pressed her laser pistol against the base of Vandalen's neck. Where his helmet connected to the torso of his power armor.
After just a single press of her weapon's trigger, Vandalen felt a searing heat on the back of his neck.
The display in his helmet also started going haywire as some of the circuitry was damaged.
Fortunately, his armor held out for one shot, and he was able to activate the rocket boosters in his power armor's feat before Jasmine could fire another.
Flying forward at a rapidly increasing speed, Vandalen felt Jasmine shaken off of him.
Regrettably, his sudden burst of speed also sent him crashing into a wall.
Leaving a heavy dent in its surface and hitting him with painful impact as he was suddenly forced to come to a stop.
With his head rattled Vandalen, barely got up in time before Jasmine had reached him again. Making his risky and painful maneuver almost for nothing.
The two of them continued to trade blows with each other, but Vandalen was undoubtably outmatched.
It was almost comical that a young human woman was beating someone wearing power armor practically barehanded, with only a laser pistol that was only effective at pointblank range to use as a weapon.
Vandalen was beginning to regret taking Jasmine and Olivia lightly.
When they had first walked into the trap that he had set up to catch the people snooping around the operation his boss had just gotten ahold of, he had never expected them to be this strong.
From all appearances, they just looked like average private investigators or mercenaries.
Now though, Vandalen knew that was far from the case. If it were not for the gas he had filled the room with, he already probably would have been defeated.
'How is Olivia doing?' Jasmine thought now that her own battle was winding down.
She had dealt quite a bit of damage to her opponent's power armor, and she could see that he was starting to stagger. It would not be too much longer until she won by her estimate.
As she glanced over at Olivia's fight, she thought that her companion was doing pretty good.
The brute she was fighting was overwhelmingly strong. Jasmine could personally attest to that after being hit by him.
Nevertheless, strength was not everything.
Olivia did not have a single scratch on her, but the bahnen she was fighting has small cuts all over his body.
It seemed that so far Olivia had been unable to land any decisive blows, but she was slowly whittling away at him.
Since she was used to sparing with Ezra, she had a lot of experience fighting someone that was bigger and stronger than her. So long as her weapon could harm her opponent, all she needed to do was stay moving and strike whenever an opening presented itself.
'I'd better finish this guy off quickly so that I can go and help her. There's no telling when someone else might show up.'
But, right before Jasmine turned her attention away from Olivia's battle, she watched as something wholly baffling occurred.
Having finally managed to get in close enough to deliver a deadly hit, Olivia had jabbed with all of her might towards her adversary's back where one of his vital organs was located.
However, right before she impaled him, the giant bahnen she was fighting threw his hand behind him to block the attack.
Olivia's hard light spear pierced directly through the palm of his hand and all the way up his forearm.
This was clearly a horrible wound and must have been excruciatingly painful, but the man did not even flinch.
Closing his hand around the spear, he grabbed onto it too tightly for Olivia to pull it back.
"I finally caught you."
Swinging around like a whirlwind, the bahnen that had caught Olivia's spear aimed to crush her with his club made out of ultra dense metal and equipped with an impact generation device.
With not even a millisecond to spare, Olivia let go of her weapon and leapt back to avoid being pulverized.
As she was jumping back, the edge of the club barely grazed her, but she was still blown away. It still felt like she had been hit by a fast-moving vehicle despite having barely been touched.
She bounced across the ground for a few seconds before coming to a stop.
A grunt of pain escaped her lips as she pushed herself back up and stood on unsteady feat.
Recognize that the tide of the battle was shifting out of their favor, Jasmine turned to rush over to Olivvia and offer her support.
Yet before she could, he eyes went wide as the enormous man pulled Olivia hard light spear out of his hand like it was a mere splinter and flung it at her.
Jasmine felt a searing pain in her side as the spear flew past her and imbedded it through the exterior wall behind her
She had managed to avoid being impaled, but the edge of the blade had still sliced a nasty gash into her side.
Immediately she reached for more of her nano machine medicine, but she was unable to take any.
Vandalen had jumped at her from behind and grabbed ahold of her. Using his power armor's strength to hold her down.
