CHAPTER 306: CHAPTER 306 JASMINE STALLING FOR TIME

The large bahnen dropped Olivia and turned to face Jasmine.

For just a moment, his eyes glanced at the hard light spear that she was now wielding, but he hardly looked bothered.

He could tell with only a single look that Jasmine was not accustomed to using the weapon she now had.

Since he had just handedly beaten someone who obviously had years of experience with hard light spears, there was no reason for him to be concerned with what Jasmine was capable of.

’Olivia is barely conscious, but at least she’s not dead. I just need to stall for long enough for backup to arrive.’

Jasmine held the spear in front of her in a somewhat awkward grip and slowly approached the man that was nearly twice her height.

"I’ll admit that your resistance has been cute, but why don’t you just give up and save yourself some pain. Do so, and I think that I’ll add the two of you to my collection after I get all the information that I want out of you. That will be a lot better for you than being shipped off to some pirate nest."

A shiver went down Jasmine’s spine as she heard this and saw the look in the man’s eyes.

He was appraising her like she was some sort of product rather than another intelligent being.

Still, as much as she did not want to interact with him at all, if he wanted to talk instead of fight, then that was better for her. Time was on her side right now.

"Sorry, but I’m not interested. I’ve already got someone, and he’s a far better man than you. I’d rather take this spear and stab it through my chest than end up in your slimy hands." Jasmine spat in response.

"You should go ahead and do that then. Otherwise..."

Putting an abrupt end to the conversation, the giant bahnen raised his club high and slammed it into the ground in front of him.

Jasmine’s eyes went wide as she watched the metal floor start crumpling like thin foil in a line heading towards her.

She had figured that she was still safe at the current distance between them, but it seemed that there was some sort of shockwave generator in the man’s club.

Just by smashing it into the floor, he was able to create a deadly long-range attack.

Putting all of her strength into her legs, Jasmine jumped to the side, but she was a little too late.

She felt a heavy force hit her feet as she tried to get out of the way, and she was sent spinning through the air.

When she landed, it was with a heavy thud against the floor.

She skidded across the ground for a couple of seconds, and her clothes and skin got a bit scrapped up.

Fortunately, her augmented body was pretty tough, otherwise she would have suffered some heavy damage and been bleeding all over.

Instead, she was just a bit sore and had cuts in the top layer of her skin on her hands, arms, and face.

Sensing that a large mass was fast approaching, Jasmine forced herself up and somersaulted away.

An instant later the giant club her opponent was wielding slammed down on the spot she had been just a moment ago.

’He’s really trying to finish this now.’ Jasmine thought as she got into a sighting stance.

Up till this point, the bahnen man had been playing around a bit. There was no doubt about that.

Now though, he was seriously trying to take Jasmien out in only a single attack.

Had she been hit by his club just now, it would have done some serious damage to her and likely knocked her unconscious. Perhaps she even would have died.

Wanting to get away if she could, Jasmine looked towards Olivia for a second, wondering if she could grab her and make a break for it.

’No, if he fires another shockwave at me while I try to get away, I’ll definitely get hit. I can’t run from this fight.’ Jasmine concluded.

Pushing herself to her limit, she began darting around to make her movements unpredictable.

Her foe was unfathomably strong, but his giant frame made him a bit slower. He could move explosively in a straight line, but he was not capable of changing directions very quickly.

He had not been able to keep up with Olivia when they had fought, and Jasmine was a bit faster than her. She hoped that this would give her an edge.

Still, her adversary was no slouch when it came to combat.

He had been fighting battles for far longer than Jasmine had, and he was much more adept at close combat than she was. Their experience was like the difference between a toddler and an adult.

Jasmine could not get close enough to attack and could only focus on evasion. Whenever she tried to step in and use Olivia’s hard light spear, a wide swing would come her way, followed by a kick or backhand from the man’s other hand.

Obviously, he was adept at fighting smaller and faster opponents and knew how to deal with them well. There probably were not many people larger than him in the first place.

The fact that Olivia had given him some trouble and landed several hits on him was a testament to just how skilled she was.

’My augmentations are better than hers, but I can’t do anything.’

Jasmine felt frustrated by her inability to put up a real fight, but she focused on what she needed to do.

Around three minutes went by as the two of them fought. Though, it was difficult to really call it a fight when only one of them was attacking.

One of Jasmine’s arms was hanging limply at her side.

She had been doing her best to avoid any situation where she might get hit, but another shockwave attack from her opponent’s club had caught her off-guard and created an opening for him to attack.

Jasmine had just barely managed to parry the strike that had followed, but her left arm had ended up broken in several places as a result.

Now all she could do was run around while assaulted by the intense pain in her arm.

’What’s that sound?’ Jasmine thought as she suddenly heard something coming from the exterior wall of the room.

It sounded like some sort of beeping, and it was getting higher pitched after every second.

Realization flashed in her eyes a moment later while she was avoiding another hit that threatened to crush her.

Knowing what this sound meant, she immediately ran over towards Olivia and picked her up. Then she rushed to get as far away from the exterior wall as possible.

The bahnen man was surprised by this sudden change in behavior, as tactically, it was a poor choice.

Already being down an arm, Jasmine was only going to be slowed down further by carrying around some dead weight.

Of course, the man could have tried using Olivia as a hostage, but he wanted to crush Jasmine both in body and spirit. That way she would offer less resistance later.

Not one to pass up on a perfect opportunity, he raised his club high and prepared to unleash another shockwave with it. He doubted that Jasmine would be able to evade it this time.

Yet, just before the bahnen could bring his weapon down, a higher pitched and slightly longer sound rang out.

Now even he recognized what this was and hastily moved his club in front of him to guard his body before the exterior wall exploded.

"BOOM!"

A thunderous bang rang out and the dense metal wall of the warehouse was blown inwards.

There was now a large hole in the building, and dozens of people wearing combat armor and wielding laser rifles flooded inside.

They were led by a woman with short dark gray hair and red eyes.

She was Victoria Werta, one of Olivia’s lieutenants and one of the members that had been a part of Burke’s team that had joined Olivia’s crew.

"Fire." She ordered the others as soon as she entered.

She and the others trained their weapons on the man who was obviously the enemy.

Thanks to the large explosion they had just caused the paralytic and laser diffusing smoke had been blown away and heavily dissipated. Allowing them to shoot with only a marginal loss in power.

The man’s personal shield generator activated and blocked the attacks, but he would not be able to last long under the current barrage.

Nevertheless, there was one thing he had to do before retreating.

Rather than targeting any of his enemies, he raised his club high and sent a shockwave attack towards the unmoving Vandalen.

It was a heartless and brutal attack against someone that had been his loyal subordinate, but he could not allow Vandalen to be captured. He knew too much and the possibility that he would reveal any important information was too great of a risk to take. He had to be silenced, permanently.

Once he saw Vandalen’s body get hit by the shockwave and his body being twisted around in a clearly fatal manner, he ran away. Busting through the hole in the wall that Olivia and Jasmine had originally used to get into this room.

"Don’t go after him. We don’t know how many other traps are set up in this building. Let’s get out of here quickly before the Alliance police arrive." Jasmine ordered while carrying Olivia in her arms.

She handed her friend and companion off to one of her crew members and then retreated from the area with them. Their mission having ended mostly in failure.
