Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead
Chapter 985: Decision
Chapter 985: Decision
Nitok was informed of various things that were happening throughout his empire, and even beyond it, hearing about discovered islands, newfound gateways into unknown realms, as well as advancements in the opening of realms, after all, many realms did not have convenient ways leading into them, such as the elemental realms for example, some needed to be tracked down and broken into through a gateway that they created.
Of course, there was also the training of troops and the likes to report…
In the meantime, Liameilos walked around the island’s center, littered with the bones of the mythical elves she had killed, looking around at the death and desolation she had unleashed upon her own people, she only felt content that none had escaped the onslaught, not an ounce of regret even when she looked at the smaller remains, or as she remembered slaughtering those who didn’t even try to fight back at all, or had been unable to.
Her hatred had not been due to a moment of rage, it had and was still deeply rooted within her, if given the occasion, she would murder them all the same…
There certainly was something poetic about the fact that they would end up blessed with undeath, they had thought themselves to be perfect and pinnacle of all creation, but they would become far better once they rose up as scions of death, Maiele predicted that quite a few would turn out to be negators, but still, a fair quantity of them should be cleansed and understand that they were never perfect and that their purpose was always to end up serving the empire.
It was strange to imagine, but after her own death, Maiele had indeed become quite attached to the undead empire, it was true that a living could only truly understand how great it was to be blessed once they were dead.
Continuing to walk, she ascended toward a high point upon the island, a road leading upward toward a great tree surrounded by a wide path that looped around its trunk, the area had become overgrown with vegetation, and a few skeletal remains could be spotted here and there, including one whose body seemed to be been torn in half, the top half stuck up onto a branch, and the lower half instead laying on the ground a dozen meters away.
This had once been Maiele’s sister, she had tried to defend herself but obviously, this had not gone too well, further away, there was another skeleton with its back against the great tree’s trunk, its skull lying in between both legs, detached from the rest of the body.
It had probably come off due to the decomposition, as she remembered having kicked that one in the neck and crushed it against the tree, although the neck had been reduced to pieces, flesh had still held everything together back then.
Looking up at the tree, this thing had not held much meaning on its own as it had once been a rather mundane tree, but convinced of their greatness, the mythical elves believed that they should have a world tree, and began to feed this one with their blood and mana, whilst still alive, their blood in particular was still rather special and allowed for the tree to grow to great heights, whilst the mana allowed the tree to naturally begin to wield magic over time.
Still, it was no world tree at all, and neither did it really have a mind of its own, it really was just a big tree, if the mythical elves were still alive, they would lose their minds at the sight of the Lithitree.
Eventually, she just moved toward the edge of the ring wrapped around the trunk and looked over at the vast ocean beyond, reminiscing about a few things.
After slaughtering everyone on the island like animals, Maiele took some time to learn more about the power within her, and eventually, she activated her domain ability and manifested the elven sun, and it was by standing upon it that she crossed the seas until eventually reaching Viridis, where she soon became a sort of religious figure for the elves living here, they may have been weaker than her and every mythical elves, but she had felt much more at home amongst them than ever before.
However, although long-lived, these elves could not match the eternal youth of Maiele, so the Elven Light eventually had to move on, unwilling to grow too attached to people that would eventually perish whilst she remained the exact same.
She became known as a hero, especially early on when she still didn’t quite grasp her powers, when on an island not too far from Viridis, she confronted and fought The Defiler Of The Holy, in the end, Maiele was not the one who felled that enemy though…
If she had still needed to breathe, Maiele would have sighed whilst looking at the ocean.
Coming here after the island was found by patrolling ships of the empire had been Nitok’s idea, and his idea was pretty obvious for anyone to see, when it came to where she had come from, Liameilos had never been very clear about it, and although the people had been terrible, she had to admit that the place itself was actually one she had somewhat missed.
Glancing to the side, she could still sense Nitok due to the fact that it was day here, the light revealing his position to her.
The Skeleton King was quite the strange man, and honestly, she quite liked that odd man, getting a skeleton for a husband was certainly not something anyone could have expected, especially a skeleton that was a former enemy and wielded a completely opposite element to hers.
But it wasn’t too strange since she was an undead too now, having become a vampire, though, one without affiliation to any of the vampire lords, Nitok believed that she could awaken her own vampiric blood eventually, with the expectation that she would become the new lord for the sunwalking vampires, who lacked such a leading figure.
The Elven Light was already seemingly immune to the effects of sunlight, which was to be expected considering that her main ability was to summon a sun, but even after so many years, her unique vampiric blood was still showing no signs of awakening.
This was a bit concerning since none of the remaining sunwalking vampires were showing the capabilities to ascend as the new lord of their kind.
“Brooding whilst looking at the distant horizon?” Nitok manifested next to her by stepping out of the shadows.
“Wondering if I’ll ever awaken my vampire blood” she simply replied.
“You have all of eternity to do that, no need to rush”
“I am supposed to be the queen of this empire, I can’t just sit around and do nothing…”
“You do a fair bit already, actually”
“…So if I won’t become the new lord of the sunwalking vampires, then I need to perform some queenly duty…”
“I mean, you help in the negotiations with the superpowers and you’ve helped plenty learn how to better wield light”
“…Nitok, give me that death force”
“Pardon?”
“I said, give me that death force, I’ll spawn a royal undeadling”
“Right now?”
“Yes, unless you want to do the melding of death force in the bed chambers? I don’t mind”
Nitok dusted his shoulders.
“…Let’s go to the crypt”
