CHAPTER 994: NOBLE SACRIFICES

"Help him? Why should we interfere in the fight? I don’t recall Loimos ever needing help in a fight"

"Just look! He has sacrificed so much of his rot already! If this goes on, he’ll have to use the rot that replaces everything down there too!" explained the vampire whilst still trying to shake the assassin by the shoulders, remaining wholly unsuccessful in that regard.

"And? If he loses the fight, it is what it is, that’s how fighting goes, one side loses and gets murdered, that’s what is fun about fighting-"

"Come on, Maliah! It’s Loimos we are talking about, I know that you are not insensitive to his gloriously, putrid charms... Ever since you conquered the Soul Realm with him, you have been different too! So don’t act tough and help me figure something out so that Loimos can slaughter that golden prick!" One gritted her teeth together, baring her fangs like a true, bloodthirsty vampire would.

Maliah blinked a few times, not quite impressed by the vampiress herself, One was completely harmless to her after all, but the mention of the Soul Realm did cause the manic assassin to glance to the side, thinking for a few moments.

"...Is he really in trouble though? I realise that there is something of a gamble in what he did, but it seems unlikely that he doesn’t have any plan at all, it’s Loimos we are talking about here, so if we do something, do we not run the risk of getting in his way?" replied The Death Dealer, the pure undead could literally consider every possibility available to him after all, it was unlikely that he had no thoughts on how to send Sonnenträger to a permanent grave.

"The fact that he didn’t consult or tell anyone about this is proof enough that there is no certainty in who will win, and the simple fact that Loimos does not have a sure-way of defeating this guy is plenty concerning- Anyways, I doubt that anything we can do could possibly disturb him anyways" the vampire rubbed the back her nape anxiously, drawing a blank about what could be done.

Maliah looked at the sunwalking vampiress for a few moments, One, apart from having a weird name, was a weird person to begin with, she used to a living, and yet, she was clearly incredibly attracted to the rotten and squalid, not to mention that just her regular personality was quite bizarre as well.

All in all, she was rather far detached from the concepts undeads were supposed to embody, if anything, she made for a terrible example of what a scion of death should be like, yet, she was just a fiercely loyal to the empire and to Death than any naturally spawned undead, and frankly, it was not like Maliah was much better, being a living working with the empire she was even weirder.

It was also true that she too, was fascinated with Loimos, he was one who killed en masse, he was powerful, and he had been one of the few capable of interacting with her throughout her entire life, it was only until the events of the Soul Realm happened that she realised that if not for him being a rotten skeleton all of the time, that she would have been in not-so different situation than One by now.

In hindsight, it made sense that the walking embodiment of death, slaughter and bloodshed would be something most appealing to The Death Dealer, she existed primarily to kill, torture and cause misery through violence and killing... So of course, she would be quite fond of Loimos, who was basically the physical manifestation of those concepts.

The assassin cracked her neck.

"It’s pretty simple, I would guess... If I understand correctly, he is consuming all of those things in exchange for power right now, is that correct? Then this means that despite being someone other than the main world, that he is still fully connected to that rot, am I still not wrong? If so, then I reckon that we go fetch some livings in the colonies that are used to create living soldiers and just give them to his rot over there" spoke Maliah, her face revealing a smile as she imagined throwing people alive into the rot there for them to be consumed.

But that smile went away as she realised that the livings from the colonies would probably be happy to be useful, those guys were fed so much propaganda that they could be made to believe anything, they might not even scream at all.

"I would suggest that we use children first" she added.

"Because they have more potent life force"

"Of course, and also because they are most likely to be scared- Don’t look at me like that, Fear is an aspect of Death, is it not? I am sure it is perfectly conducive to our goal if they were terrified and crying for their mothers! Agony is also an aspect of Death, so let’s cut them up a bit, I just so happen to daggers that multiplies suffering hundredfold" Maliah went away and picked One up, speeding away until they reached the front of the facility, there, an undead that looked like he had been skinned alive just a few seconds ago was sitting behind a counter, dressed in distinctive robes.

"Miss Maliah, Miss One, how may I help you?" he asked in a tone that did not fit the flowing blood and incessantly twitching muscles that made him up, far too relaxed and calm.

"We are going to lend Loimos some help, send us to a living colony that has some livings to spare"

"Sure thing" the undead then opened up a gateway through thin air, linking this place to a far away colony populated by several types of livings, since they were mostly to be used as soldiers, the empire thought that it would be best for the differing groups and species to live together so that they could get used to one another and thus perform better on the battlefield.

The portal that opened up like a crack in space and reality attracted attention as Maliah and One stepped out nearly immediately.

"Ever heard of Loimos, the champion of the empire? Yes? You can help him by dying, follow us!" One went straight to the point, and since this place was filled with nothing but livings that had been raised and bathed in nothing but undead ideals from birth, no one questioned them and instead focused on the fact that they could not only expedite their turning into undeads, but also help one of the glorious warriors of the empire!

"Leading pigs to the slaughter has never been easier..."
