Chapter 108 - 108 108 Whose Child Is It
Chapter 108: Chapter 108 Whose Child Is It? Chapter 108: Chapter 108 Whose Child Is It? An Kexin’s delicate little face turned from green to white with anger.
“You say it’s not Jin’an’s, and I should believe you just like that? What proof do you have?”
An Kexin refused to give up.
Qiao En couldn’t help but laugh, she slightly tilted her head up, and met An Kexin’s eyes filled with jealousy.
“I’m about to get married, naturally, the child is my husband’s. Miss An wants to save Director Zhou, you should find a way yourself, there’s no need to target me anymore.”
Qiao En bluntly exposed An Kexin’s ulterior motive.
She still wanted to use her?
Why did she think she could still use her?
“Fine, I will figure it out myself. Qiao En, you’ll regret this.”
An Kexin said through gritted teeth.
Without lingering any longer, she finally left the Qiao Family’s home.
Once she was gone, Qiao En collapsed onto the bed.
An Kexin was like a mad dog, the kind of trouble she could stir up was truly unpredictable for Qiao En.
Time was running out, and Qiao En thought of something. She didn’t want to wait any longer, she wanted to act now.
She booked a local errand service online and quickly went downstairs with her things.
Qiao’s mother had just returned from grocery shopping and the mother and daughter ran into each other at the stairwell.
“En, where are you going?”
Qiao’s mother asked with a raised voice.
“Just going out for a bit, don’t wait for me for dinner.”
Qiao En walked quickly; she had deliberately arranged the pickup location at the subway entrance to prevent the other party from tracking her.
Fifteen minutes later, Qiao En, wearing a mask and a wide-brimmed hat, met the errand runner at the subway entrance.
She handed over the items to him, gave a few instructions, and hurriedly left.
About an hour later, Cheng Lu’s phone rang.
“Is this Mr. Cheng? I have a very important item that needs to be delivered to you.”
Cheng Lu was with Lawyer Zhu at the time, discussing how to bail Zhou Jin’an out.
Zhou Ziyan had gone to great lengths to ensure that the charge of murder against Jin’an stuck, and despite Lawyer Zhu’s efforts, it was impossible to bail Jin’an out.
Cheng Lu was very skeptical when he received the call, but he still went downstairs.
The errand runner handed a plastic case to Cheng Lu and quickly took off.
Cheng Lu opened the case and saw a portable hard drive inside.
Not knowing what it contained, he returned to Lawyer Zhu’s office.
“What’s this?”
Lawyer Zhu asked out of curiosity.
Cheng Lu frowned as he held the portable hard drive and studied it carefully.
“I don’t know.”
“Who gave it to you?” Lawyer Zhu asked again.
Cheng Lu still shook his head, “I don’t know.”
“Let’s see what’s inside,” Lawyer Zhu suggested.
Cheng Lu passed the hard drive to Lawyer Zhu, who plugged it into the computer’s USB port, and a voice recording file appeared in the portable hard drive.
Lawyer Zhu played it and An Jinhua’s voice flowed out.
Both men held their breath as they listened to the conversation between An Jinhua and an unknown woman.
By the end, a lightbulb went off for both of them.
“Director Zhou is saved.”
Lawyer Zhu said excitedly.
Cheng Lu slammed his fist on the desk, “Fuck, it really was this asshole causing all the trouble, I’m going to wreck him right now.”
Cheng Lu’s temper flared, but Lawyer Zhu immediately grabbed him.
“The priority is to get Director Zhou out. We’ll have plenty of time to deal with that guy later, slowly.”
Thanks to the audio recording, Lawyer Zhu suddenly had leverage, and the two quickly rushed to the police station.
An hour later, Zhou Jin’an was released on bail.
“Has anything happened in the past few days?”
As soon as he was out, Jin’an began to inquire about the outside world.
Cheng Lu recounted all the recent activities of Nanchen, as well as the smugness of Zhou Ziyan and his mother.
Jin’an listened with deeply furrowed brows, yet he remained silent throughout.
After a pause, he asked again, “And her?”
As soon as Cheng Lu heard that Zhou Jin’an was still thinking of Qiao En, his temper flared up again.
“Director Zhou, you were framed this time, and she was the prime accomplice. How can you still care about her? She’s an ungrateful wretch, and you’d better forget about this person.”
Cheng Lu harbored prejudices against Qiao En, but Zhou Jin’an knew the truth in his heart as clear as day.
“If it hadn’t been for this recording as evidence, who knows how much more you would have suffered?”
While Cheng Lu was indignant, Zhou Jin’an grasped the core of the issue.
“Where did the audio come from?”
“It was sent by a kind-hearted person.”
Cheng Lu had checked, but couldn’t find any information about the person who sent the audio.
Zhou Jin’an’s eyes darkened; he understood Qiao En, she definitely wasn’t an ungrateful person. She was a woman of few words, but liked to use her brain, with many schemes in her heart.
“It was her who sent it, wasn’t it.”
Zhou Jin’an sighed in a muffled voice.
Cheng Lu retorted, “Director Zhou, really, stop thinking about her. Why would she have such good intentions? She’s happy now and will soon become the wife of a wealthy family, and she’s already pregnant.”
Cheng Lu’s words carried a hint of sarcasm.
“What? Did you say she’s pregnant?”
Zhou Jin’an’s brows furrowed even more deeply.
For some reason, Zhou Jin’an was shocked when he heard this news.
“Isn’t that so? Ding Hao is high-profile, even having a million-follower broadcaster live stream her prenatal check-up…”
Cheng Lu continued to say something, but Zhou Jin’an didn’t take in a single word.
A voice in his head was yelling incessantly, “Impossible, absolutely impossible, she couldn’t be carrying Ding Hao’s child.”
But he just let the voice yell, without the confidence to voice it aloud.
The car fell silent, Cheng Lu focused on driving, while Zhou Jin’an sat in the back with a frosty expression, his heart in turmoil.
“Director Zhou, shall we go to Nanchen or back to Chu Garden now?”
At the fork in the road, Cheng Lu couldn’t help but open his mouth again.
“Go to Chengnan Apartment.”
Zhou Jin’an gave the order.
“Director Zhou, why are you still going there?”
Cheng Lu was bold today, saying many things that were inappropriate and defiant of Zhou Jin’an.
However, as soon as the words left his mouth, he saw Zhou Jin’an’s face turn ashen in the rearview mirror.
“Say one more word, and you’re fired on the spot.”
Cheng Lu didn’t dare to make a sound anymore; he drove quietly, following Zhou Jin’an’s instructions to Chengnan Apartment.
The car stopped downstairs at Qiao En’s apartment building, and Zhou Jin’an pulled open the car door and entered the building.
He actually had the keys to this apartment, but he’d never used them before.
He came to the door, knocked, and there was no response from inside.
Compelled by some unknown force, Zhou Jin’an remembered the keys that were left under the doormat; he retrieved them, inserted them into the lock, and the door opened.
The familiar scent hit him as he entered, but the sight before him was startling.
Zhou Jin’an was surprised to find that the sofa had been covered with sheets and several packing bags were scattered about on the floor.
For three years, Qiao En had lived here, treating it as her home.
Was she moving out now?
Zhou Jin’an walked from the living room to the bedroom, then from the bedroom to the kitchen, and finally stopped on the balcony.
This place bore Qiao En’s marks, as well as memories that belonged solely to him.
But it seemed all of that couldn’t be reclaimed.
He stood on the balcony for a long time until the front door suddenly sounded.
Then, Qiao En came in.
She had come to pick up her remaining belongings, not expecting to find someone else in her apartment as she entered.
The person was turned away from her; Qiao En didn’t recognize him at first.
“Who’s there?”
She called out sharply.
Zhou Jin’an turned around, his face silhouetted against the light, his brows furrowed as he looked at Qiao En.
She appeared to have lost weight again; her unpowdered face looked tired and haggard.
“It’s me.”
He replied quietly.
As the familiar voice reached her, Qiao En was startled, and her keys fell to the ground inadvertently.
