Chapter 886: Discussion with the Mayor
CHAPTER 886: DISCUSSION WITH THE MAYOR
Axel knew less about the tower but learned some things from the anime and games. In the games, it was called the Pokémon Tower, and the trainer could find some sightings of ghost-type Pokémon. Most of them were Gastly or Haunter, but they were present.
In the real world, the tower was well maintained, and no ghost-type Pokémon lurked around. But he discovered one interesting thing.
"Do you mean to say that the tower never opens at night? Not even during the festival session?", asked Axel.
"Yes, you are right. The tower closes at 6 p.m. and only opens at 6 a.m. This had been the rule of the tower since its inception. At least, that is what we are told."
"What about the last five floors of the tower? Does anyone know what is there?", asked Axel.
"No, only the town’s mayor and some important people know about it. Lavender Town was created as a resting place for these dead Pokemon in the tower and also as a home for abandoned Pokemon.
But the history started to change, and now it was a bustling town with many inhabitants. There are festivals where the abandoned Pokemons are adopted. There is a rule here that a Pokémon can never be abandoned once selected. The people of this town follow this rule."
Axel had already called Shedinja, and it was coming towards Lavender Town. It was very far away and would take a week to reach here.
After talking with Emma and visiting the tower, Axel went to the border of the south gate. Each town, city or village had massive walls that covered them. This was obviously done to protect themselves during the time of tide. The south side also had watch towers, big walls, and camping post.
Axel first looked at the watch towers. These watch towers were compulsorily built by the direction of the league. This was done to oversee the tide battles and wild Pokemons coming to attack them.
But the town had not faced any tide battles for hundreds of years, so the watch tower was not maintained. Now, there are guards stationed in the watch tower, but it needs some upgrades and repairs.
Axel immediately told his members to help with the repair.
"Use Steel-type Pokemons. I will also send out Steelix and Nidoking to help with the repairs and upgrades," said Axel, calling out Nidoking and Steelix.
"Help them repair the watch towers and with your sand construct. Combine it with your steel typing to make it studier.", said Axel to both of them.
After that Axel went to inspect the wall. Even after 100s of years, the wall stood tall. Of course, some repairs were needed, but he could tell it was quite sturdy enough to hold off Pokemons when they fight the tide battle.
Axel called out Krishna and Jin to maintain the wall in its peak condition. As Axel went out of the south gate, he could see that the trees were being cleared. The Pokemons were helping. Axel also spotted some locals who were helping his team members.
He saw that Dorry was taking over this project. His commanders were very efficient and had divided the work among themselves, and they had not even bothered Axel for such trivial things.
"Come out, Charizard!!!", said Axel as he threw the ball into the air.
ROOOOARRR
The appearance of a pseudo-champion made everyone alert. The locals were even scared of Charizard’s aura. But the members quickly calmed themselves, saying that this is the Pokemon of their leader.
Dorry came towards Axel and greeted him, "Sir, everything is going smoothly. You don’t have to worry. We will complete all of this in 5-6 days."
"That is nice to hear. I will lend Charizard for help."
Axel turned towards Charizard and said, "Don’t use any flames. That might burn the forest. Use your ’Wing attack’ move and try to slice all the trees, and then use your wings to clear the area."
Axel realized that he also needed to be on the lookout for flying-type Pokemons. Most of the time, one of the commanders would watch the area from TV surveillance or other means.
As Axel was making plans for the tide battle, Tory came running and said,
Sir, the mayor has called. It looks like the grade of the tide battle has been decided."
"This mayor is very resourceful. He completed this work a way ahead of time. I will meet him. When is the meeting?
"After 3 hours. The mayor also wanted to discuss how you plan to face the tide battle with you."
"I will win with brute force if need be. Tory, remember and tell all the commanders that this tide battle is not a survival battle for us. This tide battle is our opportunity to show the world what we can do.
Axel thought of creating some wooden houses outside the wall. This would be done for night patrol. Unlike before, the Pokemons they would face the most would be ghost-type Pokemons. So, Axel was planning for night patrols.
###
It was now time to meet the mayor for further discussion. Axel knew how these meetings went—full of politics, blame, and blaming others. But Axel knew that even if he had to take more responsibility, he would be the one to laugh at the end.
So, he went there with Krishna. Hector was busy managing the team members.
This time, he came a bit faster than before and sat on the chair, waiting for others to arrive. Gary and others arrived after some time. The mayor was already there. After 10 minutes, every person had come, and the meeting had started.
The mayor was the one to speak.
"We have analyzed the tide battle, and the highest number of Pokemons that we face will be on the south side. The grade of the tide battle on the south side is Grade B, high level.
It is assumed that the highest rank Pokemon will be tier 3 king-rank Pokemon or even a pseudo-champion rank Pokemon. Mr. Axel, since you will be handling the south side, be prepared.", said the mayor.
"How many Pokemons will we be facing in this tide battle?", asked Axel calmly.
Axel was relatively calm about it. If this had been his first tide battle, he would have been terrified, but such was not the case right now. He was more experienced than before.
Facing a tier 3 king-rank Pokemon or a pseudo-champion Pokemon was not an issue that he found hard to deal with. The number of Pokemons that they would be facing was the issue that he was worried about.
Currently, Axel only has 100k members and around 650k Pokemons. Of course, that was a lot of Pokemon,s but the wild Pokemons outside of Lavender Town had not attacked for more than 100s years. If the number of wild Pokemons they had to face was higher, then Axel might have to plan something more.
Meanwhile, the mayor and all the league commanders were surprised to see how calm Axel really was. A high level tide even though it was at B grade was not a joke. It was not something a mercenary team, a newly built mercenary team could handle. That was why the league was unshakable.
Pokémon Tides had many levels. They were classified as:
Low-level Mid-level High-level Disastrous level Apocalypse level
Tide was called low level when the strongest Pokemon was from the rare rank to the elemental rank. In mid-level, the strongest Pokemon could be from Pseudo-king to King rank. At a high level, the strongest Pokemon would be a pseudo-champion rank. In the disastrous level, the strongest Pokemon would be Champion rank, and in the apocalypse level, the strongest Pokemon would be in master rank.
Every level had three grades: A, B, and C. Grade C had the least threat level, while Grade A had the highest threat level.
###
"The reports are preliminary, and we don’t know the exact number of wild Pokemons or the type of wild Pokemons that will be attacking us. But based on our preliminary numbers, the number of wild Pokemons should not exceed 1 million. It might be less, around 700k to 800k.
Most of them would be at rare rank, elemental rank or pseudo-king rank. There might be very few king ranks. I can give you more detailed reports after a week.", said the mayor.
Axel’s face changed, and he looked more serious. The reports were preliminary. It was not that he could not handle 1 million Pokemons attacking him and his team. Not all of them would attack at the same time. The tide battle would go on for months.
But he wanted to dominate this tide battle, and fighting for a long time was not in his favor. His team members would be drained out, the chances of injuries would be higher, and many more.
"Ok, please tell me the number of Pokemons I must deal with. Also, what kinds of Pokemons species would the south gate face more? I have heard that the Pokemons we will be facing mostly would be ghost-type Pokemons.
I don’t understand the reason for it.
I mean, I understand that you have the tower and the town is loved as a haunted town, but that should not be why we should face a lot of ghost-type Pokemons?"
Ghost-type Pokemons were among the rarest and very few compared to other types. Some ghost-type Pokemon are born from the soul of the dead, some are born because they had done something bad in their past lives, and some are born as a punishment.
The birth of ghost-type Pokemons was not normal, and very few ghost-type Pokemons were born from eggs.
So, Axel was surprised when he heard from his teammates that they might be facing a lot of ghost-type Pokemons.
Ghost-type Pokemons were very hard to deal with. First, since they could live for a long time, even though their ranks might be lower, they were very experienced in battle.
Tide battles were not won because of numbers or ranks of Pokemons participating, but from experience. Experience plays a vital role in tide battles.
That was why Axel always had a team that dealt with ghost-type Pokemons at the earliest in every tide battles. If they were not controlled, then the tables might turn.
"Mr. Axel, you might be the first knight but I cannot tell you all the secrets of this town. My ancestors have protected these secrets and they are being protected for a good reason.
The reason you will be facing a lot of ghost-type Pokemons in this tide battle is because of that secret.", said the mayor with a sigh.
It looked like the mayor was taking considerable responsibility in keeping this secret.
"Mr. Mayor, if you want me to protect your town, tell me what is going on. If something were to endanger the life of my team members, then I need to know."
"Don’t worry, nothing will be out of the ordinary except for more ghost-type Pokemons.", said the mayor.
"This has to do with the tower, right?", asked Axel with a skeptical look.
The change in the mayor’s face said it all. It was related to the tower.
"What is wrong with that tower? I went there yesterday. I can already tell that the place is filled with your secrets."
