The Lustrous Orb—a legendary artifact directly connected to Palkia, the master of spatial dimensions.
Chris had immediately recognized this incredible item for what it was. However, he had originally assumed its properties might be similar to the three ultra-ancient orbs he had obtained previously. To his surprise, this turned out to be a Pokémon held item rather than a simple artifact.
As an exclusive legendary item, its power far exceeded even Shaymin's "Gracidea" flower in terms of raw potential and versatility.
"Thank you very much, Professor," Chris expressed his genuine gratitude for such an extraordinary gift.
"You're welcome. Take it back and study its properties carefully. Prepare yourself well—we'll be departing for the Malaya Forest in just a few days," Vladimir said with a tone that suggested their meeting had concluded.
Chris quietly accepted the Lustrous Orb and returned to his seaside villa, eager to begin his research.
There was one particular property of the Lustrous Orb that had immediately captured his attention:
"Randomly grants mastery of spatial techniques when first equipped."
Chris wanted to discover exactly which space-based moves Pokémon could learn when they carried this legendary item for the first time.
He decided to test it with Gengar first, since Professor Vladimir had specifically prepared this item with his Ghost-type in mind.
The moment Gengar equipped the Lustrous Orb, four new moves immediately appeared in its skill repertoire.
Teleport, Trick Room, Magic Room, and Wonder Room.
Teleport required no detailed explanation—it was a fundamental spatial technique known to many Psychic-types.
Trick Room represented a cornerstone move for specialized speed-control teams. Within a Trick Room field, the speed statistics of all battling Pokémon were reversed, making the originally fastest Pokémon move last while the slowest moved first.
Magic Room served to neutralize held items completely. Within a Magic Room field, all Pokémon items became temporarily ineffective, including the user's own equipment.
Wonder Room functioned to exchange defensive capabilities between opponents. In a Wonder Room field, all Pokémon would have their physical defense and special defense values swapped, potentially creating dramatic tactical advantages.
Consider Aggron as an example: its physical defense reached an impressive 180 base points, while its special defense languished at only 60. Under Wonder Room conditions, these values would exchange, allowing physical attacks to easily overwhelm what had previously been an impenetrable physical wall.
These techniques weren't limited to defeating opponents—they could also be used to adapt one's own defensive profile based on an opponent's preferred attack types.
All four spatial moves offered excellent strategic value. Chris felt particularly satisfied with the results, though he noted that Trick Room probably wouldn't benefit Gengar significantly, given that it was naturally a high-speed Pokémon.
Chris then removed the Lustrous Orb from Gengar and equipped it to Greninja for testing.
Since the Lustrous Orb had enabled Gengar, a Ghost and Poison dual-type, to learn four Psychic-type spatial moves, it should theoretically allow other Pokémon to master similar techniques.
When Greninja equipped the Lustrous Orb, three new moves appeared in its skill list.
Ally Switch, Wonder Room, and Teleport.
Wonder Room was consistent with what Gengar had learned, confirming some overlap in the available techniques.
Ally Switch was a specialized move that allowed the user to instantly exchange positions with a target. Under normal circumstances, this could only be used to switch places with allies, though exceptionally powerful Psychic-types could forcibly exchange positions with opponents.
As for Teleport...
"Finally, a true ninja learns the teleportation technique," Chris mused with satisfaction. This represented a tremendous tactical advantage that would open up countless new strategic possibilities.
"Greninja's combat effectiveness just increased significantly," he observed.
Gengar with the Lustrous Orb had learned Teleport, Trick Room, Magic Room, and Wonder Room, while Greninja had mastered Teleport, Ally Switch, and Wonder Room. The random nature of spatial move acquisition was becoming apparent.
Chris continued testing with his other Pokémon partners.
Blaziken learned Teleport.
Tyranitar mastered Magic Room.
Gyarados acquired both Trick Room and Wonder Room.
Gardevoir learned Spacial Rend.
Garchomp gained Ally Switch and Wonder Room.
Wait—something extraordinary had just occurred!
Chris quickly focused on Gardevoir's status, carefully examining its updated skill list.
Gardevoir, being a Psychic-type, had already mastered moves like Ally Switch, Magic Room, Trick Room, and Wonder Room through its natural development. Teleport was among the first techniques it had learned as a young Ralts.
However, at the bottom of Gardevoir's skill list, Chris discovered a move that made him question whether he was dreaming.
Spacial Rend!
Spacial Rend: Tears through the opponent along with the surrounding space itself, dealing massive damage while ignoring defensive capabilities. This attack cannot miss and always strikes critical points.
Power scales with spatial mastery. PP: 1/1.
(Only available when equipped with Lustrous Orb)
"Holy..." Chris couldn't contain his amazement and nearly cursed in shock.
Spacial Rend was Palkia's signature move—an exclusive technique belonging to the legendary master of spatial dimensions!
True to its description, this represented a devastatingly powerful attack capable of literally tearing through space itself. Unlike the game mechanics he remembered from his previous life, this version guaranteed perfect accuracy and included an additional "ignore defense" property.
Absolutely terrifying!
This was Chris's assessment of Spacial Rend's true potential.
However, what puzzled Chris even more was understanding why Gardevoir had been able to comprehend this legendary technique. Had it simply been an incredibly fortunate random occurrence?
Chris continued testing the Lustrous Orb with his remaining Pokémon.
Every Pokémon successfully learned at least one spatial technique when equipped with the legendary item.
Wobbuffet, despite being a Psychic-type, surprisingly mastered five different spatial moves simultaneously.
This comprehensive testing revealed that there were exactly six possible spatial moves that could be learned through the Lustrous Orb: Teleport, Ally Switch, Magic Room, Wonder Room, Trick Room, and Spacial Rend.
However, after Chris had tested the item with all of his Pokémon, no other team member had learned Spacial Rend.
"Is it really just random chance?" Chris wondered aloud, though he remained somewhat skeptical.
A new theory occurred to him: perhaps Gardevoir had learned Spacial Rend specifically because it had already mastered four spatial techniques before equipping the Lustrous Orb?
As soon as this hypothesis formed, Chris immediately contacted a professor from Dragon University's Pokémon Breeding Department via phone.
He requested assistance in preparing a Pokémon that had already mastered five spatial moves for experimental purposes.
Within a short time, an Alakazam was delivered to Chris's location.
After confirming that this Alakazam indeed possessed five spatial techniques, Chris equipped it with the Lustrous Orb to test his theory.
The result was... completely ineffective.
Since Alakazam already mastered five spatial moves, it gained no additional techniques from the legendary item—not even Spacial Rend.
"Gardevoir's ability to master Spacial Rend definitely wasn't due to simple randomness!" Chris concluded with certainty.
"Then... what was the real reason?"
