Chapter 147: King Obaze’s Anger
CHAPTER 147: KING OBAZE’S ANGER
Eresia realized her father was angry. She knew how to get what she wanted. She hugged Obaze tighter.
"You know he got a proposal from Prince Anam. I know what he wants. I know he won’t be able to love me. I know, Father."
Obaze clenched his fists, suddenly angry. "You accept being treated like this?"
"He never insulted me. He told me the truth."
"Oh, my princess... how naive you are. They invited us here, and they think they can treat us like trash? They don’t know who I am?!"
Eresia swallowed nervously at the anger in Obaze’s voice.
"Father..." Her voice was spoiled and soft. "I have to marry him. I don’t care about anything else. You know I’ve been waiting for this moment."
Obaze shook his head. "I will find a man much better than him for you. Do you think he’s the only handsome man in the world?"
Eresia pouted. Her feelings were hard to explain. Just hearing Sylas’s gentle voice made her heart flutter. No other man made her feel like that.
"Father, please. Don’t ruin our marriage. Just help me get him. I want him. Only him!" Eresia insisted. She only wanted her father to make sure the marriage happened.
Obaze shook his head. "No. We will return to our kingdom now."
"Father!" Eresia grabbed his hand, but the old man stared at her sharply, his face stiff. He loved his daughter, but he would not allow such an insult to go unpunished.
That night, the dining room was tense. Adrien tried to remain friendly, though Sylas’s words about Eresia made him anxious.
Sure enough, Obaze wasted no time saying he would return to Ganesh that very night.
"Why are you in such a hurry? We made plans for the next few days, King Obaze. Many people want to meet you," Adrien said, trying to calm him.
Obaze looked at Sylas, who seemed calm despite what he had said to his daughter.
"I am not someone who makes decisions without thinking, King Adrien. You know me well. Before I return to Ganesh, I want to know what made you and your son so bold as to insult us," Obaze said directly.
Adrien pretended to be surprised. "What do you mean, Obaze, my friend? We’ve had a long friendship. Don’t let a misunderstanding drive us apart. Not once, not even in my dreams, would I ever insult you. You know me. Am I that kind of person?"
Obaze stared at Adrien, then looked at Sylas. "If you invited us only to declare that you love someone else, I don’t care. But it becomes a problem when I am here in your kingdom after your invitation to discuss marriage."
Sylas looked down. He knew why Obaze was so angry. In his heart, he admitted his mistake.
Eresia pouted again, her lips pressed together. "Father..." She didn’t want to lose Sylas.
Sylas looked at Obaze. "I’m sorry. I was wrong to say something that hurt Princess Eresia. About the invitation—you know we invited you to strengthen the friendship between our kingdoms, as in past years. I only wanted to know if there’s another way to build a relationship. Because I already love someone else."
Obaze slammed the table. Adrien sighed deeply.
"Forgive me, King Obaze. You have a beautiful and precious daughter. I just don’t want her trapped in a political marriage. If we have to marry, of course we will. But I want her to understand what it means."
"How dare you!" Obaze’s voice boomed, startling the servants.
"King Obaze, please... calm down," Adrien begged.
But Obaze was already standing, throwing his napkin aside. He walked away quickly.
Adrien stood too, holding Obaze’s hand. "Please, let’s talk."
At that moment, Obaze didn’t care about anything. But his steps froze when Eresia suddenly fainted and collapsed to the floor.
Sylas was shocked. Before Obaze could reach her, Sylas quickly carried her in his arms and took her to her room.
"Call Doctor Rhanda!" Adrien ordered, running behind Obaze, who chased after Sylas.
Eresia felt her heart pounding fast. She peeked slightly through her eyes, seeing Sylas holding her. Her face turned red, her chest beating harder. She felt his strong arms, his broad chest, and his firm body. She was even happier when she realized how worried he looked.
She quickly closed her eyes again. She didn’t want her plan to fail. She didn’t want to return to Ganesh. She had to marry Sylas. No matter what. Usually, this trick always worked. Her father gave her anything when she was sick.
Doctor Rhanda found nothing wrong. The princess was healthy, no fever, pulse and heart normal.
"Perhaps she is tired. She should rest more, Your Majesty," said Rhanda, giving her a tonic to strengthen her body.
Obaze grew impatient, pushing Rhanda aside before sitting on the bed.
"Eresia, my daughter, how are you? Can you hold on until we get to Ganesh? I’ll bring a more skilled doctor," he said, worried.
Rhanda cleared his throat, slightly offended. Adrien quickly thanked him and asked him to leave.
Eresia pretended to be weak and helpless. She tried to cough naturally.
"Father, I’m very weak," she whispered. "I can’t get up. I can’t imagine days of traveling."
Obaze looked even more worried.
"Father..." Eresia suddenly grabbed his hand, gathering her tears. "I can’t imagine my life without Sylas. Please, let us marry..."
Obaze was about to speak, but Eresia cried harder. "I don’t want to return to Ganesh without Sylas... I don’t want to..."
"Eresia..."
She played her role perfectly. But she was serious when she imagined life without Sylas. She couldn’t bear marrying another man.
"Let us marry... I don’t care if he loves men. You also have many wives," Eresia sobbed.
Obaze was speechless. "What are you saying? I love them all equally! How can you compare me to him?"
Eresia cried again. "But he won’t marry any woman but me. He loves men, isn’t that better?"
Obaze was speechless. Her logic was strange, but he couldn’t argue. Adrien and Sylas exchanged looks.
Eresia clung to Obaze until he finally gave in. He had no choice when it came to her happiness.
But he didn’t want to stay any longer. He knew her trick, because after he agreed, she quickly recovered.
Still, his pride was safe. Adrien and Sylas knew Eresia had saved them from his wrath.
The next day, he left. He let Eresia stay until the wedding a month later.
Obaze made sure Sylas treated his daughter like a queen, or else the relationship between the kingdoms would suffer.
Sylas dared not make mistakes. The wedding would happen. Adrien reminded him many times of his foolishness.
After Eresia’s arrival, many things happened, giving Sylas constant headaches. But he tried to remain patient. Eresia’s spoiled attitude was extreme. She would do anything to get what she wanted.
By night, Sylas was drained both physically and mentally. It was exhausting caring for her. She was uncontrollable, like a bomb ready to explode.
Her anger could even start a war. It sounded ridiculous, but Sylas had to be careful.
One night, Sylas secretly went to Kai’s dormitory. The young man was asleep, looking tired. Every day, Kai studied hard before going to the servants’ quarters.
Seeing his peaceful face calmed Sylas. He smiled faintly and sat at the edge of the bed. Luckily, Kai didn’t wake up easily. Sylas crouched for a long time, staring at his face, watching his chest rise and fall.
Sylas smiled bitterly. In his heart, he kept apologizing because he couldn’t give Kai the status he deserved.
Sylas brushed aside Kai’s hair, which had fallen over his eyes. The young man clearly needed a haircut.
Alvaro appeared in the doorway. "Your Majesty, we have to go back. Princess Eresia is looking for you."
Sylas stopped smiling. "What? It’s midnight!"
"Oh, come on. You know how she is."
Sylas clicked his tongue. "Tell her I’m not in my room."
"What should I say?"
Sylas stood, his face twisted. He looked at Kai one last time before leaving.
