CHAPTER 48: CHAPTER 48, THE THREE PURE ONES TRAVEL THE PRIMORDIAL WORLD
Is that all you’re asking for? Tongtian felt a surge of dissatisfaction, thinking it utterly low-spirited to merely beg for life, which was a disgrace to him. He immediately raised his head, puffed out his chest, and with an imposing aura said, "Bai Jin, is there anything else you would like to ask of your master? Think hard, think seriously."
Bai Jin looked up hopefully at Tongtian and said, "Master, perhaps you could remove my title of Outer Disciple Leader?"
Tongtian was stunned, then yelled furiously, "Scram!"
With a wave of his hand, Bai Jin let out a scream and instantly turned into a speck of light and disappeared.
Hahaha~ Laughter of sheer delight emanated from the summit of Taiching Peak.
All disciples on Kunlun Mountain could feel a joyful atmosphere spreading between Heaven and Earth, a stark contrast to the oppressive pressure before. They all felt envious, thinking perhaps only Bai Jin could coax the Master and the Master Uncle effectively! To achieve this as an Outer Disciple was truly enviable!
The next morning, a loud moo shook Kunlun Mountain.
All disciples emerged from the Divine Palace, looking up into the sky above Kunlun where in the middle stood an ordinary-looking Daoist, on the left was the Nine Dragon Chariot surrounded by myriad auspicious lights and great fortune, with Primordial sitting inside the chariot, and on the right were vast thunderclouds, atop which stood the one-legged Kui Niu, with Tongtian riding on it.
Taishang said with a grin, "My two junior brothers, until we meet again, may you ascend to the Saint Dao."
Primordial also, brimming with joy, said, "Elder brother, third brother, let’s have a competition to see who can ascend to the Saint Dao first."
Tongtian nodded and said, "Agreed!"
Taishang also smiled and said, "Good!"
"Ha-ha~ Elder brother, third brother, I shall take my leave first." Primordial laughed twice, and the Nine Dragon Chariot instantly moved, whisking Primordial away through the air.
Taishang also stepped forward, his figure flickering and then disappearing.
Glancing down below, Tongtian shouted, "Bai Jin, come up and lead the bull!"
Bai Jin was taken aback, hurriedly responded, "Yes!" and swiftly flew up to the front of Kui Niu, took the reins, and rode away through the clouds.
After the departure of The Three Pure Ones, the people of Kunlun Mountain were astounded, wondering if their Master and Master Uncle were embarking on proving the Tao again. Hadn’t they just failed in their attempt? They chattered among themselves, uncertain about the success of this attempt.
Leading Kui Niu through the clouds, Bai Jin asked, "Master, where are we going?"
Tongtian casually replied, "Let’s wander aimlessly, follow where the heart leads."
That sounds so profound, isn’t it just wandering around?
"Alright!" Bai Jin responded, leading Kui Niu across the Primordial Land, climbing mountains, crossing rivers, traversing seas, ascending to the skies, observing the Primordial Ten Thousand Clans and studying Witch Demons.
Tongtian’s aura grew ever more profound, and his eyes sharper and fiercer. Sometimes even a slight release of his aura would frighten Bai Jin tremendously.
As the two walked through the savage wilderness, Bai Jin hesitated and then asked, "Master, should we go and check on the Human Clan?"
"The Human Clan? You mean the new race created by Nuwa?"
Bai Jin nodded and said, "Recently I’ve heard the prayers of the Human Clan; they’re facing hardships."
"Let’s go and see this race created by the sanctified Nuwa. I’m quite curious about them."
Bai Jin led Kui Niu towards the south, where the land chosen by Fu Xi for the Human Clan lay south of Buzhou Mountain.
It was only a few months’ journey when they saw scattered Human Clan tribes in the south, hunting in the mountains and forests dressed in animal skins.
Even the Human Clan Tribe exists not far from the Witch Clan Tribe, relying on the Witch Clan to survive.
Fellow Daoist Tongtian said with surprise, "It’s only been a few years, and there are already so many humans?"
Bai Jin said with a smile, "Master, the reproduction ability of the Human Clan is probably the strongest in the Primordial World. If they weren’t individually too weak and survival in the Primordial World difficult, their numbers would be even greater."
Tongtian nodded thoughtfully, observing the Humans carefully. Their powerful reproductive capabilities suggest the possibility of spreading throughout the Primordial World, making them seem more suitable for enlightenment than the already civilized Witch Demons.
"Stop right there!" A loud shout resonated between Heaven and Earth, its heavy momentum spanning across the front like an uncrossable chasm.
Boom~ A big man, bare-chested, plummeted onto a distant mountain peak, holding a scepter in his hand.
Bai Jin stopped in his tracks and looked up, asking, "Who are you, Fellow Daoist, and why do you block our path?"
The big man shouted, "I am Kua Fu, serving under the orders of Houtu Ancestor Witch to guard this place. Who are you and where are you heading?"
Bai Jin bowed and said, "So it’s the Great Witch Kua Fu. I am Bai Jin, coming from Kunlun Mountain, and I am accompanying my master to the ancestral land of the Human Clan."
Kua Fu’s eyes widened, could this be that Bai Jin mentioned by Houtu Ancestor Witch? Isn’t his master one of The Three Pure Ones, Shangqing? He quickly bowed, saying, "Greetings to the elder Shangqing!"
Tongtian asked indifferently, "May we pass now?"
Kua Fu promptly gestured with his hand, saying, "Please, after you!"
Bai Jin, leading the Kui Niu, continued forward and soon disappeared into the mountain range.
Kua Fu straightened up, wiping the cold sweat off his forehead, and muttered to himself atop the peak, "No, I must notify the Ancestor Witch." He stamped his foot, and with a boom, the Earth Veins roared, his figure instantly vanishing.
Leading the Kui Niu, Bai Jin soon arrived at the Human Clan’s ancestral land by a mighty river. However, the place supposed to be flourishing showed only a few people hurrying back and forth, presenting a desolate state.
Bai Jin, puzzled, said, "Strange, why is there no one?"
Tongtian revealed a slight smile and said, "Keep walking forward!"
Bai Jin continued leading the Kui Niu forward, and gradually, a faint voice could be heard from afar.
"Holding the great symbol, the world follows; without harm, peace abounds. Joy and bait, transient guests stop. The entrance of the Tao, bland like it has no taste, hard to see, hard to hear, used without gratification..."
Something clicked in Bai Jin’s mind: Could this be the Eldest Uncle? He immediately led the bull towards the source of the voice.
Moments later, they approached a small mountain. Taishang was sitting cross-legged on a giant rock at the summit, under which lay a large-horned Green Bull, and at the foot of the mountain, a dense crowd of the Human Clan sat, all sincerely listening to the teachings, with no noise.
Bai Jin whispered, "Master, it seems Eldest Uncle arrived earlier."
Daoist Tongtian dismounted the bull, saying, "Go do what you need to!" and floated towards the mountaintop.
Bai Jin patted the Kui Niu and said, "Go find somewhere to have fun."
The Kui Niu looked at the Green Bull on the mountaintop and asked, "Can I go chat with it?"
"No!"
Bai Jin turned towards the direction of the Divine Palace. He had been faintly hearing the prayers of the Human Clan all this time; it was time to find out what exactly had happened.
The Kui Niu walked off to the side, laying under a big tree, gazing up at the Green Bull on the mountaintop, thinking, I was here first, so I’ll be the boss from now on.
As Bai Jin reached the valley where the Human Clan was born, towering outside was a majestic Divine Palace. Inside, the dignified statue of Nuwa sat, flanked by two smaller statues to its left and right – Fu Xi on the left and Bai Jin on the right.
