Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law
Chapter 160 Traceless(1)_1
CHAPTER 160: CHAPTER 160 TRACELESS(1)_1
If he couldn’t bring a happy ending to his sensible younger brother’s love, he didn’t deserve their respect anymore.
Ruby Bluen had no idea what Glades Horne was thinking, nor did she have the mind to guess.
Sitting on the couch, she silently cried for a while before she realized she had wept in front of Glades Horne.
"Glades, I’m leaving," Ruby Bluen wiped away her tears, bit her lower lip, and stood up, unwilling to continue to be sad in front of Glades Horne.
Fortunately, Glades Horne had already made it clear to her that the person he truly loved was her sister. Otherwise, he would now be mocking her coldly, saying she had brought it upon herself.
Glades Horne didn’t reply. He pulled out his phone, scrolled through it, and dialed a number. Thirty seconds later, he ended the call. Staring at Ruby Bluen as she stood up to leave, he asked in a stern voice, "Do you really love Marcel?"
Ruby Bluen was stunned. She turned to look at him, not understanding why he would ask such a question. If she didn’t truly love Marcel Horne, would she have left Glades Horne and run off to Tibet?
"Why don’t you answer? How much do you really love him?" Glades Horne’s gaze was very sharp, the kind he used when dealing with business rivals, and now it was directed pointedly at Ruby Bluen.
It was the first time Ruby Bluen had been on the receiving end of such a look from him. She stood straight, even though her heart was twisted in pain, and replied firmly, "Very much!"
"If you truly love him, you should turn on your phone and contact him. There might be a new development. When faced with disappointment, running away isn’t the solution," Glades Horne said gravely. Though his tone was no longer as gentle as before, it still held a hint of care.
Ruby Bluen looked at him intently. After a long moment, a sincere smile touched her lips. "I’m happy for Julia. You’re a very good husband. Glades, thank you. I understand now." After speaking, she turned and walked towards the study door. As she was leaving the study, she took out her phone and turned it on.
Glades Horne was right. Running away wasn’t a solution.
If she had the courage to run away from a wedding for Marcel, why didn’t she have the courage to face the fact that Marcel was getting married? No matter what the outcome, she had to bravely face it.
As soon as the phone turned on, the message alert chimed repeatedly. She opened it to see that they were all from Marcel.
Her hands trembled as she read those messages.
A smile appeared on her lips, but tears welled in her eyes.
Indeed, there was new information.
Marcel had explained everything to her in the messages.
He had found out that Glades Horne had married Julia Bluen. He blamed himself for being too worried and for running away, which had resulted in deeply hurting her. He said he loved her, that he had fallen for her years ago. It was because she became Glades Horne’s girlfriend that he hadn’t dared to confess, leading him to flee to Tibet. He also mentioned that he was willing to accept the transfer back to T City, hoping there was still a chance to make things right. Furthermore, he promised that no matter what storms the future held, he wouldn’t run away again but would face them with her, hand in hand.
All the pain, all the bitterness, at this moment, were blown away by the wind, leaving no trace.
She didn’t blame him!
She, too, was at fault.
Actually, the circumstances under which she became Glades Horne’s girlfriend were... really quite baffling.
She wanted to reply to Marcel Horne, but she found her fingers still trembling with joy.
Ruby Bluen quickly wiped away her tears again. Sometimes, she could be quite fragile, crying at the slightest thing. This was so unlike her usual self.
"Ruby Bluen!" Suddenly, a sharp cry came. Then, she saw Adele Horne, who had just come inside, rush towards the staircase like the wind. Her movements were so fast that the people sitting in the living room hadn’t recovered before she had charged up to Ruby Bluen and swung a slap at her face.
Ruby Bluen, caught completely off guard, took Adele Horne’s slap squarely on her right cheek. When she returned to the Bluen family home, Chris Bluen had slapped her on the same right cheek. Even though she had applied ice, there was still some swelling. Now, after Adele Horne’s slap, her cheek swelled even more, the clear imprint of a hand showing just how hard Adele had struck.
A loud SMACK echoed like thunder, jolting the two couples sitting in the living room.
"Adele!" Gian Horne, coming to his senses, immediately scowled. His daughter had actually slapped Ruby Bluen in front of their in-laws! Even if Ruby Bluen had once wronged the Horne family, it wasn’t his daughter’s place to discipline her.
A child’s lack of discipline is the father’s fault.
As a father, his infidelity was the reason his daughter didn’t want to be close to him, so he couldn’t enforce discipline. He could only indulge her, which resulted in her current unrestrained and unreasonable behavior.
"Adele." When Ruby Bluen appeared, Mila Anderson had also wanted to slap her. However, as a cultured lady and in front of her in-laws, she restrained herself. Seeing Adele Horne rush in and slap Ruby, for a fleeting moment, her heart swelled with satisfaction, but then, like Gian Horne, her expression turned grim.
"Ruby." Feeling sorry for her, Scarlett Taylor quickly stood and hurried over to Ruby Bluen, intending to pull Ruby behind her for protection. However, Ruby stopped her. Raising her brow, Ruby stared at the furious Adele Horne and questioned, "Adele Horne, what right do you have to slap me?"
"What right? Ruby Bluen, do you even have the shame to appear in my house? Why didn’t you run away? What are you doing back here? You wronged my brother, so what if I slap you?" Adele was always unreasonable and obstinate, harboring a deep-seated hatred for the Bluen sisters.
"That’s an issue between us, Adele. It seems you’re meddling too much." A deep voice came from the second-floor hall. Glades Horne had just left the study when he heard his sister’s piercing voice. He didn’t come downstairs but walked to the staircase to look down. Nevertheless, that deep voice was enough to intimidate Adele.
"Brother, I’m just venting for you!" Adele snapped, not understanding what kind of spell the Bluen sisters had cast on her older brother to make him always protect them.
"It seems you’ve got quite a lot of free time at home," Glades said enigmatically, dropping another remark. Adele’s expression instantly changed, a smile plastered across her face. She promptly squeezed past Ruby Bluen to go upstairs, pulling Glades back, not letting him go downstairs.
