Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law
Chapter 368 - 368_1
"I was thinking about going to see Rachel, but since you said I must stay with you today, I let it go. She's probably with Hansen Ruiz anyway," Julia Bluen said offhandedly, her eyes fixated on a fruit store where her sharp gaze had spotted many oranges. "Oranges."
She suddenly blurted out the word without any context.
Upon hearing this, Glades Horne chuckled softly and pulled the car over to the side of the road, stopping right in front of the fruit store.
The car had come to a halt before Julia realized what was happening. Turning her head, she saw Glades already out of the car and heading towards the fruit shop. A smile, full of contentment, spread across her face. He's the person in the world who understands me best, she thought. Whatever I say, he gets it immediately.
She had been increasingly enjoying sour foods, especially those with a spicy kick.
Soon, Glades returned to the car holding a bag of oranges and another of kiwifruits. He handed the bags to her indulgently, smiling. "Oranges, for you. But don't eat too many; two or three should be enough. After all, they're sour, and besides you, no one else wants to eat them right now. Kiwifruits are the king of fruits, and they also have a sour taste. You used to like them a bit, so I bought some too."
Before they left the house, the old lady had specifically told him that when he took Julia out for a drive, he should buy whatever she wanted to eat because pregnant women have strange cravings. The old lady had also told him an old saying: "Sour for a boy, spicy for a girl." Since Julia loved sour foods, she was certain to have a son.
He chuckled to himself; that old saying had no scientific basis.
If Julia's cravings turned to sweet and sour, or sour and spicy, what would that mean?
Surely, it wouldn't result in twins, would it?
He didn't want Julia to go through such hardship. He'd read that carrying twins was tough, so one child would be preferable.
"Got it. I'll just eat two, and one for your daughter, so that makes three in total," Julia said playfully, taking out an orange to eat.
"Blaming your own cravings on my daughter," Glades laughed, his eyes deepening. She sometimes acted as playfully as a child, yet in nine months, she would be a mother.
Had he made her become a mother too soon?
But now that the child was conceived, it definitely had to be born. After the birth, he would make it up to her and give her much more time for just the two of them.
"Hide the oranges in your car. Mom doesn't like me eating such cheap things, but right now, I just want to eat what ordinary people eat." After peeling an orange, Julia put a segment into her mouth. As she chewed, the sour taste instantly flooded her palate, causing her brows to furrow and her eyes to squint. So sour! But so satisfying!
The snacks her mother-in-law prepared for her were all high-class, and the fruits were always the most nutritious and expensive kind. Oranges weren't among them.
"You..." Glades looked at her with amusement, shaking his head, his eyes full of indulgence.
"Let's go, continue our snail-paced joyride," Julia said with another segment in her mouth, smiling.
"Don't you like the snail pace anymore?" Glades asked while starting the engine.
"So sour! But it's really satisfying. TSK, TSK, really sour. I wouldn't have been able to eat even one before. I don't know what kind of little creature this is in my belly, to love sour things so much," Julia Bluen said, not answering his question.
Hearing that, Glades Horne laughed heartily.
'What kind of little creature'? Of course, it was a child in her belly, yet she actually used such a term for his treasure!
Realizing she had accidentally made a funny remark, Julia laughed as well.
A cheerful and warm atmosphere filled the car.
The two of them chatted and laughed, continuing their joyride.
When the car reached a crossroads and stopped at a red light, Glades Horne brought it to a halt.
As a familiar BMW drove across the intersection, both Glades Horne and Julia Bluen recognized it instantly; it belonged to Adele Horne.
With their sharp eyes, they even clearly saw that the person sitting in Adele Horne's car was Orlando Evans.
"Glades, that's Adele," Julia said, too distracted to continue eating her orange.
Why is Adele still with Orlando Evans? she wondered. Everyone in T City knows about the Evans Family's affairs now. They also know Glades was the one who toppled them. So why is Adele still with Orlando Evans? Isn't she afraid Orlando might harm her? And... Julia's thoughts trailed off as she recalled the scene of Adele with Orlando's cousin. A sense of foreboding suddenly swept over her.
Glades's handsome face also grew grim.
He had already begun to undermine Alvin Evans's company, and it wouldn't be long before he acquired it. He'd assumed his sister knew, as it was no longer a secret in T City. But now it seemed the foolish girl was still unaware. It figured; his sister cared for nothing but eating, drinking, and playing. She never read newspapers or watched the news, so of course, she was out of the loop.
If his sister continued to associate with Orlando Evans, there would definitely be danger. Orlando was now disgraced and had lost everything, just like Nicholas Coldwell; she must be harboring resentment. He'd seen plenty of women whose love had turned to hate. He wasn't afraid of Orlando's hatred, but his sister was. Her dependence on Orlando was so strong that she could fall for Orlando's manipulations at any moment.
"Glades, let's follow them and see," Julia suggested worriedly.
He was planning to follow and check on them even without her suggestion.
Immediately, he started the car, changed direction, and quickly followed Adele's BMW.
"Orlando, where do you live? I heard from your brother that your uncle arranged for you to stay in a very quiet place, where no one can disturb you," Adele Horne asked while driving.
After they met, Orlando Evans had tearfully recounted the Evans Family's misfortunes to Adele. Adele knew it was the result of her older brother's actions, and besides listening to Orlando's complaints, she had apologized profusely.
Fortunately, Orlando was magnanimous and seemed to understand the situation, saying it was her parents' fault and that she wouldn't blame Adele.
Adele was deeply touched, feeling guilty for having implicated her friend, causing her family to fall apart overnight—parents imprisoned, assets confiscated—yet her friend was still willing to forgive her.
"Aren't I taking you to see where I live now? It's really nice. You can rest assured after you see it," Orlando Evans said, a sly smirk crossing her face. After discussing things with Othiel Evans, she had been let out to find Adele Horne. Meanwhile, Othiel Evans remained in the apartment, having added an aphrodisiac to a bottle of red wine, waiting for Orlando to bring Adele back so he could serve it to her.
