CHAPTER 134: CHAPTER 6: THE DRAMA QUEEN SISTER REFUSES TO BE CANNON FODDER (PART 6)
Jiang Lai held the little girl’s hand, weaving through the crowd.
A beautiful woman leading a young child through a market full of men quickly drew many gazes.
Jiang Chao had instructed Jiang Lai to not wander around and to quickly rendezvous by the car after dealing with the child.
Jiang Lai nodded and approached a weapons stall, casually picking up a gun.
"You need to trade medicine for the gun. If you don’t have medicine, the kid next to you will do."
Such a tender young girl, surely could fetch a good price.
Jiang Lai ignored the stall owner’s sleazy grin, looked at the gun, and then pulled the trigger aiming at the stall owner’s head. The next moment, three burly men descended from the car, each holding machine guns aimed at Jiang Lai, while the stall owner grinned arrogantly.
"Little girl, you can’t just steal things from this stall."
"Death Value: +1, +1, +1..."
Jiang Lai listened as a series of death value increases sounded in her ears. When it had climbed sufficiently, she put down the gun and smiled at the owner.
"I just wanted to see if the gun was any good. Unfortunately, it’s too heavy, not suitable for me."
"Hey, you touched this gun, who knows if you’ve tampered with it, you should just buy it."
Jiang Lai looked at him—the bald man with a mouth full of gold teeth, backed by a car full of weapons, formidable in strength.
"How much?"
"Ten anti-inflammatory drugs or ten painkillers, or that young girl next to you."
"That’s too expensive. I just asked over there, a small handgun only costs three painkillers."
"Oh, really? I sell for ten, who cares? Hurry up and don’t waste my time. If you’re not willing to trade yourself, that’s fine, you don’t get the gun, but if you let me have some fun, I’ll let you go."
Jiang Lai nodded and beckoned to the man with her finger.
"It’s inconvenient here, come with me to the back. Actually, I want something else. Let’s see if we can negotiate."
Seeing she was only with the young girl, the man decided there was no danger, pocketed a gun, and followed Jiang Lai to a wasteland behind the car.
"Ask around here, who doesn’t know me as Gun. Why don’t you just stay with me and I’ll guarantee you eat and drink well."
Jiang Lai instructed the girl not to move, then turned and followed the man toward a higher haystack.
"Death Value: +3."
The young girl stood quietly holding her doll. After a brief and sudden angry roar and scream, Jiang Lai emerged, wiping blood from her hands and called to the young girl.
"Come here, help me hold this."
The young girl ran over obediently, not at all surprised by the man lying in the haystack with a blown-off head, crouching down to help Jiang Lai search the man’s belongings, eventually turning up two packs of cigarettes, a pack of white pills, and two guns.
After cleaning up, Jiang Lai quickly left before anyone noticed, then found someone to trade her pack of white pills for a dozen packets of instant noodles, four bottles of mineral water, and two boxes of luncheon meat, packed her bag, and rushed back to the car, closing the door before the gun stall owner’s accomplices arrived.
When Jiang Chao and his group returned, seeing Jiang Lai still with the little girl, he didn’t have time to be angry before Jiang Lai poured out all the supplies from her bag.
"These are the supplies I found; surely it’s enough for her share?"
Jiang Chao was stunned, unable to speak for a moment as he looked at the pile of goods before him.
Beside him, Yang Jun suddenly spoke up.
"Where did you get all this stuff?"
"Why do you care where it came from?"
Yang Jun sneered, glanced at Jiang Chao, and said meaningfully.
"Keep an eye on your sister, and your little sister."
Jiang Chao’s face was tense with obvious displeasure, intending to have a proper talk with Jiang Lai, but she wasn’t willing to listen.
"Next time you go out looking for supplies, I’ll go with you all, not eating their food for free."
"With us... do you know how dangerous it is out there?!"
Jiang Lai leaned in and whispered something to him; Jiang Chao’s expression turned joyful and incredulous.
"Really?"
"Of course, I just discovered it. The power is great; do you want to try?"
Jiang Chao still couldn’t believe it, thinking over it before picking up a rock from the ground and handing it to her.
"Show me."
Jiang Lai lightly flicked her thumb against her forefinger, and the stone shot out like a bullet, pierced the window and embedded itself in the opposite wall.
This power was far superior to bullets.
Jiang Chao’s eyes lit up with excitement, patting Jiang Lai’s shoulder with pride.
"That’s great, really great!"
"Brother, can I take care of the young girl with me?"
Jiang Chao hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
"If you want to, then take her."
"You’re the best, brother."
Jiang Lai hugged Jiang Chao’s arm affectionately and shook it, just as Gu Han Yan returned, witnessing the scene.
She frowned slightly, turned and went straight to the driver’s seat, handing over her traded supplies.
Since she had joined this team, she needed to abide by the rules: the traded supplies needed to be handed over, team cooperation required listening to the captain. Gu Han Yan planned to stay with this team long-term, her first step was to build good relationships with some of the core members.
——
"Little girl."
Gu Han Yan casually tossed a pack of cigarettes to Duan Xu, then sat beside him, and asked casually.
"The one beside that little princess."
"Hahaha... she’s no little princess; you’re glorifying her too much by saying that."
Yang Jun laughed and took a cigarette from Duan Xu, lit it, took a puff, and said helplessly and annoyed.
"With so many idle people already, now another mouth to feed—with the captain’s attitude, he’ll probably soften again. I bet our team will break up eventually because of his sister."
Gu Han Yan felt a wave of regret at the word breakup.
Just like the last time, Jiang Chao was repeatedly delayed and dragged down by his sister, taking many detours before finally establishing the base.
This time, she wanted to help him get on track sooner.
"Breaking up is too severe. As good friends of the captain, can’t you help properly discipline that little princess?"
"I can’t be bothered; just looking at her gives me a headache."
Duan Xu snorted coldly, extinguished his cigarette, and suddenly blurted out.
"Either leave the kid behind, have both of them leave, or I’ll leave."
Gu Han Yan advised.
"Our team really isn’t suitable for having a child, too young and prone to accidents. Talk to Jiang Chao; he definitely won’t want you to leave."
If anyone should leave, it should be Jiang Lai.
The dead weight not only drags on but repeatedly endangers Jiang Chao’s life; a person like that staying alive is completely pointless.
