CHAPTER 811: CHAPTER 712: DISLOCATED LIVES 10
As soon as the thought occurred, Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao immediately got up and left the room, ready to find their coach. It turned out that just as they stepped out, they ran into Coach Wang, who was making his rounds. Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao quickly explained the situation with their two roommates that had gone out, and Coach Wang furrowed his brows.
"I understand, you two go rest now, you’ve got training tomorrow, don’t let this delay you." With that, Coach Wang hurried off, likely to look for the missing girls. After all, they couldn’t just let two young girls stay out all night without returning.
By the time they went to sleep that night, Meng Jiao and Mo Siqi still hadn’t returned. The next morning, as the whistle sounded for wake-up and assembly, Wen Shuangshuang noticed that Meng Jiao and Mo Siqi’s beds were exactly as they had been the night before, untouched, with no trace of anyone having slept there.
Because Meng Jiao, who often lagged behind, was absent today, Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao were able to assemble on time. Driven by the fear of the horrid taste of the small window meals, all the students showed up on time today.
While some students weren’t fully dressed by assembly time, at least everyone was there. The coaches saw them tidying up in line but chose to overlook it.
Once they were dressed, the routine required a run. However, today, it wasn’t ten laps but eleven. Wen Shuangshuang’s stamina remained weak, but she was improving quickly.
The previous day, she couldn’t complete the run without Wang Xiao supporting her halfway through. Today, despite being utterly exhausted by the end, she managed to finish the eleven laps on her own, without Wang Xiao’s help.
After running, they stood at attention for fifteen minutes, then had breakfast. After a fifteen-minute break, they assembled to continue their swimming lessons at the seaside pool.
During lunch, Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao overheard some students gossiping about two students having been called to meet their parents. These kids were impressive, having energy to gossip even after exhausting training.
From what they heard, Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao both guessed it was likely Meng Jiao and Mo Siqi who were summoned. Considering both of them hadn’t returned the night before, perhaps they were confined by the coaches.
However, neither Wen Shuangshuang nor Wang Xiao took the gossip to heart, as they weren’t familiar with either Meng Jiao or Mo Siqi. Mo Siqi had only introduced herself on the first night before clashing with the coaches and subsequently getting confined.
As for Meng Jiao, apart from her self-introduction, all they had heard were her cries. Being called to meet their parents was likely the coach’s way of diplomatically suggesting the two leave. After all, being recorded with three confinements on their personal records would be quite severe.
Speaking of Meng Jiao and Mo Siqi, one was soft, the other tough, yet both were unruly troublemakers who wouldn’t yield. Staying longer in the summer camp would inevitably lead to a third confinement. The coaches were, in a way, being considerate.
Yet, that night when they returned to the dorm, Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao were surprised to see both Meng Jiao and Mo Siqi there. Meng Jiao was crying again, a heartbreaking sight, while Mo Siqi had a bright red handprint on her face, clearly having been slapped.
The person who hit Mo Siqi seemed to have used significant force because her face was noticeably swollen, looking a size larger. Wen Shuangshuang guessed it must have been Mo Siqi’s parent who hit her, as the coach would definitely not resort to such actions.
Perhaps due to being hit by her parent, Mo Siqi appeared dazed, sitting on her bed in a stupor. Bearing in mind the idea of avoiding unnecessary trouble, Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao didn’t bother with either Mo Siqi or Meng Jiao, but exchanged massages and went to sleep.
Honestly, the presence of Meng Jiao and Mo Siqi was a bit irritating to Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao. These odd roommates offered no benefits except dragging everyone back; having them around was less preferable than just being the two of them.
The next morning, much to Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao’s surprise, Mo Siqi had risen early and was tidily making her bed. Although not up to the standard, it was at least fairly neat, albeit not exactly the squared-off pattern expected.
This act improved their attitude towards Mo Siqi, as at least she was doing things herself, sparing Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao the trouble of handling her affairs for team spirit’s sake.
Both Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao hoped to leave a positive impression on their coach. If the summer camp ended with high scores from the coach, it might not result in a military school recommendation but would be a bonus for the schools they wished to attend. Hence, Mo Siqi’s willingness to tidy up brought them considerable joy.
In contrast, Meng Jiao hesitated as she made her bed. Though slightly improved from the first day’s heap, it was only just about folded.
After everyone gathered, the coach instructed them to bring their folded bedding to the square for a demonstration on packing up luggage. The students then carried their packed luggage on their backs.
With neatly folded bedding, folks like Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao had a presentable appearance when carrying their luggage, indistinguishable from the coach’s perfectly packed examples.
Mo Siqi’s packing was slightly lacking but manageable, while Meng Jiao’s messy folding resulted in a disorderly appearance, as if ready to tumble down any moment.
Standing upfront, Coach Wang viewed those with disorganized luggage without comment before saying, "Your task today is to run with your packed luggage. After the run, anyone whose luggage isn’t properly secured will be punished with an extra ten laps and receive small window food."
Upon hearing Coach Wang’s words, the students whose luggage wasn’t well packed groaned, while the rest followed the coach to start running. Meanwhile, those with poorly packed belongings scrambled to redo theirs.
Seeing Meng Jiao struggling with her packing, Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao, driven by team spirit, restrained their irritation and helped her repack. Although it couldn’t be done immaculately in such haste, they at least got it secure enough to prevent it from falling apart prematurely.
Meng Jiao quietly waited as they tidied up her belongings. Once Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao swiftly re-folded and packed her bedding, she silently accepted it and followed the others for the run without a word.
Though Wen Shuangshuang and Wang Xiao volunteered to help out of team spirit, the lack of a simple thank you from their counterpart left a strange sense of dissatisfaction.
Wen Shuangshuang, more mature, didn’t take it to heart, having experienced much already. But Wang Xiao, while mature for her age, was still a young girl and became somewhat annoyed by it.
