"Run!" A voice tore through the night as several people sped across a street, and launched themselves into a nearby building.
Breathing roughly, they looked behind them and saw a crowd of zombies sniffing the air as they staggered forward, following the scent of humans and fear.
"Damn, we took to much people, we should be left some behind!" A man in a casual shirt stained with blood said in a hushed whisper.
"John, we need to go, and stop complaining, we need to get to that place so we can find food." James said while motioning the rest to come over.
Then he raised a piece of wood and a hole appeared, a gaping maw into the darkness, with dust billowing in and out as if the hole were somehow alive and breathing.
Several of them shuddered as they stared into the darkness, that quickly have way to the lights they carried on them as they scrambled down into the hole.
"It''s a good thing your father worked in places like these James, because if not for you, we would be at that madman''s mercy." A girl whispered in his ear while they walked.
Nodding, he smiled slightly, then an expression of pain flitted across his face briefly.
"Damn, I left her! I will get her back!" He punched the wall, his expression a mass a fury.
Daniel, a short and slim guy ran back and pulled him along.
"James, we need to keep moving, if you stay here and wallow in despair, how will we save her?"
James shrugged Daniel''s hand off his shoulder and pushed forward in the line and then made a left.
"I thought you said it was a right? Why did we take a left?" John asked while blocking James'' path.
"We need to eat, in case you forgot, we haven''t eaten in days, we need food and water before we save everyone else or we''ll just be going there to die." James spat out, and pushed John out of the way.
"There''s a gas station up ahead, we''ll resupply and then find a way to set them free." He grabbed a ladder and pulled himself up, and pushed a grate out of the way.
Looking up, the moon and stars were shrouded by dark clouds, as a cold bone chilling wind picked up pieces of trash and blew them along.
"Quiet." James hissed as he saw a few zombies, nothing like the group they''d left behind, and half jogged to the gas station.
Then he tried the door, and found it unlocked, he prayed someone else hadn''t had the same idea as him and raided the gas station before he reached.
The door opened with a squeal, alerting the nearby zombies, however the party of seven all made it in before the zombies got near.
Inside the gas station, darkness reigned supreme as several of them staggered over something, and they hoped it was just meat.
"Are you sure it''s safe?" A girl asked while looking around wearily.
