CHAPTER 261: CHAPTER 210 PERHAPS SHE REALLY MADE A MISTAKE_3
Li Si pulled out a box of chips and plopped herself onto the sofa, nudging Bai Shasha: "Hey, hey! You really only use people when you need them, huh? I walk in here and you don’t even offer me a glass of water!"
Bai Shasha, busy finding something tasty for Xiao Guai, rolled her eyes at this: "Excuse me, can you figure things out first? This is your own home! Can’t you get yourself some water?
If you don’t want water, there’s drinks in the bag! Oh, right, how did things go with your mother-in-law? Spill it! Let me, a humble commoner, also get a glimpse of the drama in these wealthy families!"
She had wanted to ask about this over the phone last night, but considering that Brother Leng might have been next to Li Si, she thought it’d be inappropriate to bring it up—it’s his mom, after all.
Previously, Li Si had briefly mentioned some of it to her, and Bai Shasha had guessed as much. A woman like that must have some sort of leverage. Turns out, she brought a kid into the mix.
This was beyond tolerable. Not even married yet, and already a bonus mom!
"Get lost! Suddenly thinking about gossip now? You’re too late!" Li Si ignored her eager puppy-dog gaze and grabbed the remote to turn on the TV.
Bai Shasha handed a juice box to Xiao Guai, poked the straw in, and let it drink on its own. She turned to Li Si, "Come on, Si, be the bigger person! Have a heart as deep as the ocean and just tell me!
You have no idea how curiosity can be deadly, you know?"
Li Si munched on chips, propped her feet up on the coffee table, and said, "Fine, I’ll spare your gossip-loving soul. The latest update is... the kid might not be Leng Mochen’s!"
Bai Shasha’s jaw dropped, "Oh my god! I need some chips to calm down. The life of the rich really is complicated! Do you know who the father is now?"
Li Si nodded, "We’ve got a suspect, but nothing concrete yet. I’m guessing we’ll have results soon. Let’s just wait for the show to unfold!"
Bai Shasha lit up with excitement: "I see what you’re doing—waiting for the right moment to strike! Haha, brilliant. I really can’t wait to see your mother-in-law’s face when that day comes. Darling, can I be there to witness it?"
Li Si: "Sure thing!" Though who knows when the stars will align for that perfect moment?
Bai Shasha: "Haha, you’re the best!"
Li Si pushed an overly sweet Bai Shasha away, "Enough with the flattery. What about your new job? Are you really happy with it?"
When they met two days ago, Bai Shasha had boldly claimed everything was fine, but Li Si couldn’t help but sense some suppressed emotions.
Bai Shasha sighed, "Sigh, it’s just okay. I’m new, and since I got in through connections, I’m still in the early stages of getting to know my colleagues.
Right now, I mostly do odd jobs. The stuff I learned at school? Useless here. But, Si, I believe everyone has to start somewhere. I might lack experience now, but I’ll work hard to make up for it. Someday, it’ll be me teaching the new hires!"
Li Si clapped her hands, "Well said! Let’s give her a round of applause! Shasha, I love your attitude. But don’t push yourself too hard, okay? Look at you, you’ve gotten thinner! Come on, let your sugar mommy treat you today!"
She understood how Bai Shasha felt. After all, Shasha was still recovering from heartbreak and needed time to heal. On top of that, adapting to a new environment and building new relationships were challenges in themselves. Feeling pressured was normal, but it was important to turn that pressure into motivation.
Bai Shasha grinned from ear to ear and, seeing how Xiao Guai had already finished the juice box, excitedly clapped her hands, "Alright! Let’s squeeze you dry today! Actually, let’s make it a feast for the three of us, right Xiao Guai!"
"Awoo..." Xiao Guai pounded its chest in agreement.
The two of them brainstormed for a while. Bringing Xiao Guai along had its limitations, especially since it happened to be Children’s Day and a weekend. Most places were crowded.
In the end, Li Si noticed a newspaper on her coffee table advertising a day trip to Cherry Valley for fruit picking.
They immediately reached a unanimous decision. Bai Shasha changed into an outfit suitable for going out, while Li Si carried Xiao Guai. Shasha grabbed two large bags of snacks for the road, and they drove straight there.
After nearly an hour’s drive, they finally arrived at Cherry Valley.
The entrance was already packed with cars, as it seemed like a popular spot for family outings with people of all ages.
Li Si and Bai Shasha bought two wide-brimmed sun hats at the entrance. The weather was beautiful, and the stunning scenery in the valley instantly lifted their spirits.
Xiao Guai, bursting with excitement, darted into the cherry orchard, hopping and jumping. Li Si looked up at the bright blue sky and fluffy white clouds above, surrounded by cherry trees heavy with vibrant red fruit.
Birds chirped and occasionally fluttered through the orchard, and Li Si thought to herself that this place was simply magical.
Bai Shasha couldn’t help but exclaim, "Si, we made the right call. This place is breathtaking! It’s like a paradise. Look at Xiao Guai—he’s so happy he’s disappeared!"
Li Si felt the same way, "Exactly! Let’s come back again if we get the chance. First, let’s try one to see how sweet it is!"
She reached for the nearest cherry, picked a few, and popped them into her mouth. They were incredibly tasty! While they couldn’t quite compare to ones she’d had from before, they were still miles better than store-bought ones.
By now, Xiao Guai had disappeared completely, but neither of them was in a rush. They strolled leisurely through the orchard, picking fruit. Whenever they found cherries that looked particularly good, they’d just wipe them clean and eat them on the spot.
Before they even managed to fill the little baskets provided by the staff at entry, they were already close to full from eating.
But having filled up on fruit left their stomachs feeling bloated yet unsatisfied. They knew they needed real food to hit the spot.
They eventually found an utterly engrossed Xiao Guai in an apple orchard. Begrudgingly, it followed its owners to a nearby farmhouse restaurant.
Xiao Guai only perked up upon spotting milk it liked to drink, letting out an enthusiastic growl that Li Si deliberately interpreted as excitement.
After eating, they realized it was getting late, so they decided to rest for a bit before heading back.
Just then, Bai Shasha’s phone beeped with a text message. She glanced at it, then looked around.
Li Si, puzzled, asked, "What is it? What are you looking for?"
Bai Shasha gave a mysterious smile, "Guess who just texted me?"
"How would I know? Stop being cryptic!" Li Si ruffled Xiao Guai’s head and rolled her eyes. Did Shasha really think Li Si could read her mind? (To be continued.
